What do people think is a realistic goal for me by the end of this? I'm 142 but seem to lose weight quite slowly, and obviously I'm not very overweight so does it come off slower anyway? I was thinking 130lbs but really have no idea

I have the same problem, and then snacking later in the evening after dinner too. The way I get around this is have something (small and healthy) like an apple while I'm cooking, it's amazing how much just a little apple can stop you from feeling as famished as you were 5 minutes ago! We have a food co-op that sells whole foods at trade price, you could see if you could get involved with something like that. Or similarly if you get involved with an allotment (even just helping out, not having your own patch) people trade and give away what they produce.
