Thanks for the responses. I guess after seeing a loss for a few days in a row the 0.4 threw me off. Now I know not to freak out about it when something like that happens again. /thread

Thanks, they don't recommend doing stair climbing due to the repetitive stress on the injury. I will keep other options open.

to add: my running program tells me I need to run a certain distance on a certain day. For example "Run 1.5 miles." I want to be able to use the elliptical for this distance and have it simulate the running. thanks

I realize this was kind of a silly question, but still, does anyone have an answer? Thanks!

Thanks for the responses. I am glad to see things have worked out for many people - would enjoy reading about more successes!

There are three levels of intensity for MFP for jumping rope: slow, medium, and vigorous. If you are a beginner and tripping on the rope every now and then, does that fall under slow?

Many great responses here, much appreciated. I've tried the Fitbit with activities besides running and walking... more recently, jumping rope. I find that it counts the steps that I am jumping but since the activity is so taxing and intense compared to walking, you can only bet that it is underestimating calories burned…

Yes, I have been not eating the calories back and saving them in case I have meals I can't count accurately once in a while.

I agree with you. You will certainly burn more calories running in the same amount of time spent walking, but that doesn't spell inaccuracy. If anything, it is a good thing because the device is underestimating your caloric burn if it is not giving full credit for running 1 hour vs. walking 1 and a half hours. But I don't…

Since MFP already has me at a 1 lb loss per week, it keeps that rate for me when Fitbit syncs up. I only consider the calorie adjustment on MFP based on my work recorded on the Fitbit, not reading from the maintenance amount the Fitbit has. Given this, how accurate has the device been for estimating caloric burn from the…

Thanks vismal! You've chimed in before on my questions on here and bb.com and you're always helpful. I vary it up between running and the elliptical machine and use a heart rate monitor to know what I'm burning. I burn around 600 calories on the elliptical and pretty much can do this every day. It really helps out a lot to…

anyone else who has lost weight by eating at maintenance and working out?

anyone else have success using this method of weight loss?

awesome. before i wasn't sure that the exercise cals would add up so you could use them later.

bump, thanks for the replies!

bump. thanks for the replies!

thanks all! so if you let all the exercise calories accumulate during the whole week, you have that many to eat if you want?

So I had a lot of time to think about this and I really value everyone's suggestions. This is the best I have come up with. I am going to eat a certain number of calories each day set by MFP and also do cardio exercise to increase my activity level. I will not eat back these exercise calories and let them add up until the…

I didn't intend to confuse anyone with my question. I realize that excessive calorie deficits can lead to undesired breakdown of material other than fat and thanks for addressing that. I was mainly asking from an energy standpoint - what happens with the accumulated energy deficit and I think the above poster addressed it.

Thanks everyone for your input. I feel better about my situation now. MFP keeps my TDEE updated through updates I make for my current weight. For the days I can't accurately track the meal/food I am eating, I try to estimate and then do a quick add calories for it. As we all know, it is HARD work to track your food all…

Okay, my height 5'11" 185 lbs and near 18-20% bf. Say I am losing weight just fine, but my caloric deficit is over 1000 calories. What are my concerns? Should I adjust that deficit so that it matches 1000 calories even though I was losing weight just fine?
