  • Amen. I think if we think of food as a fuel for our body instead of a source of entertainment or pleasure, we would all be much better off.
  • You didn't give the age of your mom. I think that she does need to get her thyroid checked if she hasn't . I have been taking thyroid meds for about 8 years and it has made a lot of different for me. If that's not it, then your mom probably has not gotten used to the lowered metabolism that we have to go through…
  • This may sound rather odd, but I have exercise clothes, tennis shoes, and socks laid out so that I won't have to waste any time finding what to wear. I get up at 5:10, get dressed, have my coffee and by 5:30 my program comes on FIT TV. Sometimes I have time to play a few games of "words with friends." I just feel better if…
  • Yes, MFP has really helped me with my weight loss!! I had tried to document my calories in a notebook, but the calorie count was probably way off and I had no way to document my exercise calories used. This site is just what I needed to be accountable for and aware of my food intake. Thank you MFP!
  • Humm, I can think of more unhealthy cravings...like Mexican food for example. Fish is loaded with protein and Omega 3 and sooo good for you. Just limit the frying. I have learned to like baked fish with lemon juice and seasonings.
  • sparkpeople.com has some great recipes for healthy and/or low calorie eating!
  • I also have a treadmill and use it only on rainy days or days when I can't get outside. It is not the only thing you can do though. If you dread it, I agree that you really need to find something fun to do instead. There are exercise programs on FIT TV and also exercise videos. Also, it is okay to have a day when you are…
  • That is so wonderful for you. Isn't it great to be able to do something that you love to do. My two instructors are in their 70's...so it's never too late. I am really proud for you!
  • Cabbage makes a great base for minestrone soup. I shread mine up in the food processor and cook in the crock pot with kidney beans, etc. I got a recipe from sparkpeople.com.
  • have you checked the label to see if it has any sodium listed? I plan to check that because I do like Crystal Lite...especially the Peach Tea.
  • I have had a couple...the first one was a small one that you could not take the trays out to wash. I also made the mistake of using Pam and messed up.....this caused everything to stick and damaged the finish. The second one I bought was detachable and I read the manual....duh... and did not use the Pam spray. It has…
  • Yes, I too am hypothyroid and have been successful (very slowly) at losing weight. I have set my calorie goal to 1200 and I try to exercise from 30 minutes to an hour everyday...sometimes on weekends I fudge a little and rest. I have only lost 6 pounds, but have lost 3 inches from my waist and 1 inch from my hips (that…
  • I keep the frozen tilipia that are in individual portions for something quick to grill or pan fry with Pam or a little olive oil. The frozen vegetables are quick to microwave too. I also keep frozen cooked shrimp to grill on the stove with veggies (or rice or pasta) added. It depends on what you like.
  • Crystal Light has come out with the individual packets that can be carried in your purse. They come in a variety of flavors! good!

  • It sounds like you are an emotional eater...for sure. The first thing that you have to do is to realize that you are worth it! Sometimes when people get in those types of relationships, their self-esteem suffers and so everything goes awry. Just remember that it is a one day at a time type of thing to be able to lose.…
  • Don't forget to measure, because if you exercise, sometimes the loss is in the size of your clothes. That is rewarding to see that change. Don't expect drastic results because those pounds usually come back just as quickly as they left. Slow progress is the best and most lasting. Be realistic about your goals and honest…
  • Come to think of it, I had a five year old when I was 42 and a my first grandson when I was 46 so I have had children around forever. They keep you young at heart and are certainly worth it!
  • I have the same problem of eating at work. I have found that if I eat a filling breakfast like oatmeal I am not quite so tempted. to partake in the goodies. Someone brought brownies this week and I saved it for my grandson. :smooched: I kept it out of my sight or I might have been tempted to eat it. I hope that you…
  • Congratulations! Keep up the good work! It is all worth it!
  • Well said! That seems to be true for most people, doesn't it. Basically, we are weak and give in to temptation too easily. Fast foods are too easy and usually the most fattening and unhealthy..unfortunately.
  • Good luck with your efforts! keep up the good work!
  • Gilad has some good ones and so does Denise Austin. You just have to look for what fits you. I think WalMart has them.
  • Congratulations on your new journey! I hope that you will meet your goals and have tremendous success. I am also new. I have used other online self-help sites and this one seems to be the best so far. I too have gained 20 pounds that seem to really like the attachment to my body. I have decided that I look and feel so much…
  • I love cottage cheese! My favorite combination is cottage cheese with canned, drained mandarin oranges. Pears are also great! I have tried the low fat cottage cheese but I think the flavor in the regular small curd is the best. To me it's worth the few extra calories. yum:smile:
  • salad with tomatoes, kidney beans, colby jack cheese, lettuce, italian dressing (with a few sinful doritoes) and sliced ham ..but it was still under my calorie goal!
  • I weight every day but I have just gotten used to the pounds fluctuating 2 or 3 pounds. If you can learn not to be discouraged , then I would say go ahead and weigh yourself everyday. I have found that if It (the scales) is out of sight then I have a green ticket to go ahead and eat whatever I want ...which would be…
  • By the way, you are my daughter's age. So you can imagine how hard it is for me to lose weight. I keep telling my girls that they need to keep the weight off now and lose what they can because it only gets harder. Staying active is definitely the key but the calorie counting is surely what helps to lose.
  • I love the water and swimming and if I had a pool (of course the weather here would have to be a lot warmer..37 is the high today) I would really love it..a great calorie burner. My husband and I went to Florida last year in May to watch a college national tournament. The weather was beautiful and the trees and flowers…
  • Thanks for your reply. I really don't like cheetoes that much, but I do like beer and I do know that it will put the pounds on as will any empty calorie alcoholic beverage. However, I will have to give up something, but not sure what at this point. I think my metabolism is set at "0." I am hoping that the exercises that I…
