My daughter turned 22 this week, and on her birthday I realized that I haven't been at this weight since before she was born!!! I'm 48 and since I was 18 I've taught dance, aerobics and cheerleading. I also have worked with numerous schools helping with chorography for their music departments. I stopped teaching back in 1997 because of back and neck problems. (I eventually had surgery on both to correct but over a period of a few years I gained upwards of 70 pounds!) Medical problems, life, stress and depression got in the way of my being able to find the motivation, strength and courage to do something about it. Last December (09) I made the decision to change my life. I searched online for help and found MFP. I've been here every since.

About a month ago I decided tht I really could start teaching again. I'm stronger, more engerized and extrememly self diciplined now regarding healthful eating and excercise. Well, word got out and I've been asked to start teaching some classes again!! I start on May 10th! Gonna begin with a combo of cardio and light strength training and go from there.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would ever be possible for me to teach again! I was really sure that part of my life was over.

As of this morning I'm down a total of 43 pounds. I have 19 to go to reach my goal.

I guess if I were to give any words of advise to those who are just beginning it would be to tell you that it really is possible. Take one day at a time, one baby step at a time if you need too, and just start making better choices for yourself. Excercise! Even if its only for five minutes to begin. You have to start somewhere. As time goes by, you'll realize that you become more and more able to accomplish much more that you thought yourself cabable of.

This is a HUGE milestone for me. You have no idea!!! I just wanted to share this small success with you, but in reality, its one of the greatest successes of my life!!

  • That is so wonderful for you. Isn't it great to be able to do something that you love to do. My two instructors are in their 70's...so it's never too late. I am really proud for you!
