  • I just wanted to let you know that there are MFP forums just for gastric sleevers. The group is wonderfully supportive with lots of great advice and experience. These two groups are very active: VSGers and Gastric ByPass/VSG/LapBand
  • I would try to up your water. The fiber you are taking will result in constipation if you don't have enough water. I am 1.5 weeks and get about 70+ ounces a day. Make sure you drink extra when you take your fiber.
  • I'm assuming you mean the pre-op diet? I had to do one week of 900 calories, no more than 30 carbs and 10 grams of fat. Then I had a week of protein shakes (also at 900 max) and a day of clear liquids. The first 3 days of the protein shakes were the hardest and I felt hungry and weak. But by day 4 I was fine, and found…
  • Thank you for sharing this. I'm just starting with my sleeve but I bookmarked it for later, when I might need a reminder.
  • That's scary! I am glad you had the sense at the time to do what you needed to do to get it under control.
  • The nutritionist said to call her next week and let her know how I'm doing on full liquids. If I'm doing well, she'll advance me to purees. Do you think I'll start feeling restriction then?
  • That sounds really hard. Sibling issues can be messy! I can talk about having to feed children while going through all of this. I am a single mom with two children who eat a lot. The pre-op diet was especially hard because I was hungry and I had to prepare them food. During my 3 month pre-op diet, I tried to make meals…
  • I also had the sleeve on 7/29. I just started full liquids today. For pre-op, I did a week of 900 calories with limited carbs and one week of protein shakes. I lost about 9 lbs during those two weeks. I've lost about 5 lbs in the first week. I am hoping the scale will say another 5 this Monday. So, I think you are right on…
  • I just had my first day of full liquids and I feel NO restriction at all. I easily ate a chobani yogurt this morning. I took my time between bites to monitor how I felt but it all went down just fine. Same thing with a pudding at lunch. I also just ate a cup of pureed cream of chicken soup made with mootopia milk (for…
  • I am so glad that your FB post was so well-received. So far, the only people who know I've had the surgery are my ex-partner and my kids. Who knows if I'll decide to tell more people in the future.
  • Welcome! I was sleeve on 7/29, just a little over a week ago. I am on the liquid diet but tomorrow I get to start full liquids, which I am super excited about! I also recommend going through the list of posts and reading the topics. You will get a lot of your questions answered, including ones you didn't know you had! Good…
  • That is an excellent accomplishment! Congratulations!
  • I felt dizzy and lightheaded at the beginning of the pre-op diet. It got A LOT better after day 3. Then, I would have to remind myself to have a protein shake. Are you limited to 3 protein shakes a day or can you have more than that? I bet you start feeling better soon.
  • I took my prilosec last night instead of this morning and I didn't have any problems during the night. I did wake up feeling very hungry, but not painfully. I know it isn't real hunger but that's the best way to describe it. I'll keep taking the prilosec at night and hope it is the solution.
  • Congratulations! August 20 is right around the corner. Big changes ahead!
  • That's fantastic! Sit with that for a while and just enjoy it!
  • Congratulations on your weight loss so far! I decided to have the sleeve for the exact reason as you. I have a 12 year old and 9 year old and was finding that my weight was keeping me from enjoying activities with them. Kayaking was the most ridiculous since my end of the boat was sinking and my daughter was about 3 feet…
  • That's excellent news (well, except for the bad smells.) I bet you are going to get much better quality of sleep and feel even better!
  • Thanks everyone! I had it again last night but it wasn't as bad. I was more propped up so I think that helped. I've never had reflux problems before so I have no idea what that would feel like. I thought that was in your throat? I am going to try to take my prilosec at night instead and see if that helps. If not, I'll call…
  • Thanks! I might try switching the Prilosec to before bed, and see if that helps.
  • Welcome! I also started my pre-op diet a little early. One, because it makes more sense to me to start things on Mondays. I had my gastric sleeve surgery last Tuesday, almost a week ago. This group has been such a huge help! I am about to search through old posts for advice on vitamins and I know I'll get some good…
  • I was the same way. I didn't believe it until it actually happened. I had surgery this past Tuesday and the Friday before they told me I needed a CPAP machine for the hospital. So I was worried I wouldn't really have surgery because that was going to hold it up. I didn't get 100% confirmation until Monday afternoon. That…
  • That is an amazing accomplishment! Congratulations on your well-earned success.
  • I decided not to tell anyone. The only people who know are my ex-partner and my children. My mother knows I had surgery but she thinks it was due to a former issue. I guess I just really wanted this to be MINE and to not feel like I had to share my experience with others. I had surgery on Tuesday and my friends think I had…
  • I also had the sleeve on 7/29. Feel free to friend me - my diary is open to friends. I am doing pretty well. I had really bad nausea but the doc put me on the patch for that and had me add some milk-based protein drinks to my clear liquid diet. My abdominal muscles are still pretty sore but that is the only pain I am…
  • Congratulations on a huge accomplishment. I looked at your pic and you look great! Thank you so much for your continued guidance to us newcomers!
  • Welcome. I am getting sleeved tomorrow (eeek!). Feel free to friend me if you want to get a look at what lies ahead for you. I started at 315 and am at 290.6 and am 5'6". I also have medical directives.
  • A lot of people talk about measuring their foods. I do weigh my food and measure out serving sizes but I really have no idea how much that should look like post-surgery. Now, I measure and weigh to make sure I am within my calories. But it seems post-surgery it is more of an issue of eating the right amount for your…
  • This is completely off-topic, but I had the same problem with my dog pulling (a springer spaniel). He pulled so hard that I ended up with shoulder surgery. I bought a Gentle Lead (at major pet stores) and instantly no more pulling. He does sometimes try to paw it off but he's gotten used to it. It is much more gentle on…
  • Thank you so much for this post! I will try my best to remember to ask them to put me in a chair (I go in on Tuesday.)
