  • ndj1979 - eating clean has been a huge factor in my weight loss!! every body is different!! by eliminating sugar, I have a healthier relationship with food! by reducing dairy and grains, I am inflammation free and feel better/workout better/live a better life! by focusing on nourishing my body with nutrients from real…
  • Welcome Becka4prez! I eat clean too, but I like to call it "closer to the earth". I've been on MFP on and off for a year, losing 50lbs in the process! I'll send a friend request, always looking for new friends!
  • Exactly what diannethegeek said. MFP calculates your TDEE based on no exercise, so if you exercise, you should eat back those calories to keep your targeted calorie deficit. That being said, machines and MFP logging OVERESTIMATES calories burned by at least 50%. I like logging the time I spent working out and then only…
  • First, weight loss is a gradual process with lots of ups and downs. Don't worry too much right now. Bumping up the intensity in your workouts is a great accomplishment so feel good about that!! I took a look at your diary, a few comments: - try not to eat back ALL of your exercise calories. they are often over-estimates…
  • I use a BodyMedia armband and it's the same as everything else: Up, FitBit, etc. BodyMedia tracks calories burned via a few sensors on the armband, it does NOT track heart rate. It syncs with MFP which makes logging food and activity easy between the two apps. I've had my armband for 2 months now and really love it. The…
  • You can do it!! Set small goals and add supportive friends!!
  • Agreed, ignore the sugar unless you are diabetic OR consuming a lot of processed sugar. Track carbs and fiber!! Keep eating fruit!!
  • I echo everyone's sentiment. The documentary is a gimmick. AND bottled juices are just full of additives and sugar. However, I LOVE juicing. I ADD it to my diet, not replace anything. I love to eat all my fruits in veggies in all the different ways I can, one of which is with fresh juice. I actually use my juicer the most…
  • I changed the MFP settings for my protein/carb/fat profile. I've been successful with 40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carbs Most days I eat 150g of protein. It's hard but once you find some good high protein foods, it will be easier to incorporate them into meals. I like Gold Standard Whey Protein the best!
  • This will get a lot of comments... I think every body is different. I really think if you up your calorie intake by even 200 calories a day, you will start to notice a difference in your energy and on the scale. It seems counter-intuitive BUT your body works in weird ways, so you'll just have to find what works for you.
  • I suggest building a list/library of macro friendly vegan snacks and meals to help you plan your days. Just interchange as needed, add and remove as time goes on. "Fail to plan, plan to fail" is my motto with IIFYM
  • I have really found that MFP calculations are off. I use a fitness tracker and have a "sedentary lifestyle", my fitness tracker on a day without exercise puts me at 2600 calories burned but MFP says 2400. I never go by what MFP says, I encourage you to go by other research (love IIFYM) and go with that. I choose to eat…
  • I agree with previous posts, more calories and more calories from protein early in the day. I also have a fruit right after lunch for a little boost and take a 10-15 walk to get myself going. Caffeine is a quick fix, I stick with one cup in the morning but don't drink any more throughout the day. It's a tough slump for…
  • I eat 1600 and lose each week!!! I wear a fitness tracker but I hit my 1000 calorie deficit every day. Eat more to lose more! It's hard to find the right number but you'll figure it out. A .4 gain is arbitrary at this point, there are so many factors that play into that. Give it another week or so.
  • rough night last night 2/6 Sarah - 4 Binge - 2
  • I seem to have the same stats as you, MFP calculates my daily calories burned to be much less than actual, I got a fitness tracker to get the actual number. 1600 has been working great for me, and I continue to hit 1000 calorie deficit (- 2lbs per week)
  • I still struggle with this but I have kicked it a bit. A few thoughts on what has helped me: -- be aware when emotional eating is happening -- identify physical hunger vs emotional hunger (link to an imagine I find helpful http://andycore.com/eat-smart/physical-hunger-emotional-hunger/ ) -- pinpoint the feeling you are…
  • Check-in #2 - 2/5/14 Sarah - 4 Binge - 1 Holding strong, unsure of what the weekend will bring!! This has been helping me alot -- "Fail to plan, plan to fail"
  • Hi All!! This is my first post here and I am excited to check in every day this month!! Today is not over, so I may check in later... 2/3/14 Sarah - 2 B - 1
  • EAT MORE TO LOSE MORE!! I agree, sometimes I overdo it at the gym and I get totally wiped out. Take a rest day every 2-3 days. Calculate your BMR and TDEE (iifym.com) and stick to a higher calorie goal with macro goals. I eat 1600 calories a day, workout 4-5 times per week and have been losing for 6 months now.
  • I am so so sorry that you are struggling this way. I had a similar experience in college, I binged whenever I could and I ballooned up. Not only did my health suffer but my grades did too. This reply is for support, that you are not the only binge eater out there, and that you can get through this. The weight is just a…
  • Ugh I hear ya!! I was so nervous when I first started. It took me a while to get comfortable with working out in public. I finally realized that I looked better all sweaty, red and out of breath than when I was self conscious. I tried out lots and lots of clothes...here are my favorite: Sports Bra - MovingComfort, Fiona…
  • MFP settings are whack -- aim for 35% protein, 35% carbs, 30% fats for a normal diet. -- aim for 40% protein, 25% carbs, 35% fats for a low carb diet.
  • It'll slow down when it's ready, and then you'll have to change up your approach. I wouldn't worry too much. Always feel free to eat over if you are exercising that day, gotta listen to your body!! You definitely aren't starving yourself, so go with it!! Good job!!
  • I've struggled with anxiety, panic attacks and stress most of my life, and I'm only 23!!! I've tried medications but the only thing that really helped was EXERCISE. I know how hard it is to feel comfortable going with your mind and heart racing, but the feeling after that workout is amazing. I never in a million years…
  • 75% of sodium intake is from processed foods, not table salt. Rule of thumb is not eating anything that has over 200mg per serving. It's hard, I rarely eat anything that's pre-made or processed i.e. anything in the middle aisles of the grocery store. Good foods for potassium are dried apricots, spinach, kale, yogurt, white…
  • Start slow and get acquainted with your gym. I started with just cardio on the elliptical, once I got comfortable I ventured out to new things. I now do free weights, spin classes, zumba classes, arc trainer, running on the treadmill, TRX workouts, it's all fun! There's no magic formula. You've just gotta get committed and…
  • Started in August 2013 at 295, currently at 263, ultimate goal weight is 135, ADD ADD ADD, I love friends on here!!
  • I understand your frustration but remember, after she loses all the weight and is no longer restricted to 800 calories a day, she is going to have to live a healthy lifestyle like you do. At that point you will have had months even years of practice!! She has to learn all the things that you have eventually. While it's…
  • Adding!! I'm down 30lbs with 120 more to go!! Love all the support I can get!
