  • Looking good.....obvious progress.
  • I don't know as it would be rude to decline foods you either don't care for or want to avoid....unless of course "she" thinks your friendship is reliant on food or obesity. In the end, you have to do what you feel is good for you and your health. You could address it with her up front telling her, something like...."no…
  • I try to walk between 3.5 and 4.5 miles a day, 7 days a week. At present that amounts to about an hour and twenty minutes a day. This of course is in addition to whatever else I walk just getting through the day.
  • Hello all....my name is Denny. A few months ago I seem to have had an epiphany, mostly I think from a visit to "the other side" during a heart attack a year and a half ago. As a result of the heart attack I quit smoking (20 months ago), which was something that always was in the way of any desire to improve my fitness.…
  • He does wear it on his wrist and I'll recommend he remove it and put it in his bra (which HE'LL need if he doesn't start losing some weight). I'm sure this is where the discrepancy is coming from.
  • Ah ha....great explanation....I'm going to pass this on to my son....all makes sense now.
  • I use the iPod Nano with it's built-in program for walking and find it to be very accurate. It's programed to track, time, distance (mi or km), steps, calories burned and maybe something else. While like all iPod's it has music, radio, weather etc., the only thing I actually use of it, is the Activity function.
  • The accuracy of the fitbit is questioned by my son also. Just in his morning dealings of fixing breakfast for his kids and getting them out the door, he'll look and find it shows maybe 10k steps, which he knows he hasn't done. I'm not even sure he's using it anymore for just this reason.
  • Shame may not work with everyone, but for whatever the number is that it does work on, it's worth using. It wouldn't have worked on me as I've never been one that paid a lot of attention to what others think about me. I fail to see any evidence she was boosting her own ego by saying what she did, or how she said it. For me…
  • I'm sure I'll be beaten severely about the head and shoulders for this, but honestly...as an obese person, a "fatty" if you will, she did nothing in the article but tell the truth....and yes, sometimes the truth is an unpleasant thing to have to confront, but until we do, we're not likely to improve our lot in life. For…
  • Michelle...I'm sorry for your loss and having never lost a close family member unexpectedly I can't know how you feel...I DO know how your father felt though having had my own "event" about 18 months ago....in my case when I arrested I was in the ER and they were able after a minute and a half to bring me back. I can tell…
  • You don't look anorexic at all....you look very good and healthy as well. Ignore the naysayers.
  • I'm no expert with lots of experience at this, however in my effort to learn I did as you asked and viewed your diary prior to the last week or so...I don't see any big glaring issues, but I see a lot of what I'd consider little things that combined may be the reason for your frustration. Specifically I'm looking at Tues.…
  • I second TuToMom's reply....he should never have been that insensitive. Continue on your journey and ignore his comments...your life will change with the self-confidence that will come from shedding the weight and getting in shape...then put your foot down....or better yet where the sun doesn't shine. You're better than…
  • IF he's eating healthy and what you would consider enough for a child his age I wouldn't be in a big rush to get weight on him. When I was young, I couldn't put on an ounce try as I might....I ate well enough but my activity level was so high I just burned it off. My mother would send my brother and I down the street to…
  • Weight loss is really nothing more than a numbers game. Calories IN you go up. Calories OUT, you go down. Assuming you're a male and your ideal calorie intake for your height, weight and activity to maintain your weight is 2,000 calories/day and say you weight 180 pounds. Each pound is about 3,500 calories to change your…
  • No I wouldn't. Taking it off that fast likely means at some point in the not to distant future she's going to put it all back on, just as fast. Yeah, you're having to work harder now to accomplish you goal but in the end, yours is more likely to actually translate into a lifestyle change that will serve you well over a…
  • As a one-time binge the direct damage probably isn't too much...the indirect though can be significant IF it's treated as a license to binge. I agree with another poster that said it might be the result of being too restrictive with yourself. I know that would be the case with me. IF I were to cut out ALL those things that…
  • As one that did one, (quitting smoking) cold turkey and is currently doing the other....quitting smoking is far more difficult. As a doctor told a friend of mine that was hooked on prescription drugs after an injury, ominously told him..."the brain NEVER forgets". Especially things it found pleasurable. My "overeating" has…
  • Two mugs every morning w/ 1 or 2 Individual Coffee Mate tubs and one packet of Raw Sugar.
  • What an interesting and thought provoking question. It's something I've been pondering now for several days. I was lucky as a kid...I was so active and athletic I couldn't put on an ounce, literally. In my late 20's I'd taken up sailing and noticed at the end of summer I'd put on a couple of pounds....of course as soon as…
  • I quit a year and a half ago and didn't suffer any significant weight gain because of it. I also didn't use anything....just cold turkey. I did add a little waking to my life but mostly after that first 2 weeks, I just spent more time not thinking about. That's not to say I couldn't sit down a smoke a pack right now...I…
  • My cardio is certified bad....I had a heart attack a year and a half ago and spent a minute and a half dead. The first big positive to come out of it was I quit smoking...then for most of the year and a half since I haven't done much else about it. Medications hit and miss, exercise even more so...mostly I could just work…
  • As a former smoker I don't believe anything could possible be worse for a persons overall health than smoking...of course those that end up with diseases directly linked to smoking certainly know this. I've heard it from medical professionals before and I believe it....and believe it relates to this issue. Most doctors…
