  • Because science is all made up by the man, amirite? If you eat very little for a long time, you will cause metabolic damage. Go talk to a doctor and a nutritionist.
  • When people think that they have to eat 800 calories/day to lose weight and then refuse to listen when you explain that they could actually be eating a lot more, staying healthier, keeping their metabolisms in check, and losing just as much weight (if not more) if they upped their calories to a reasonable deficit.
  • Your body is probably freaking out and storing fat because you're starving yourself. Eating that little will destroy your metabolism and your body will do everything that it can to prevent further weight loss.
  • In general, it's better to log the raw ingredients you've used because people enter 100+ variations of "corn on the cob" and probably 100+ of those options are either completely wrong or don't reflect exactly what you're eating. I'd log "raw corn" and any butter or other things that you might put on it as separate items.
  • Seriously. However you go about it, you have to be at a caloric deficit to lose weight and that can be a pretty major bummer.
  • 21, have been using this for a while now without talking to anyone.
  • Well, your body is probably freaking out at only 1200 calories plus exercise. Even when aggressively trying to lose weight, you shouldn't eat below your BMR. Go. Eat more.
  • ^^^^^^ This. I'm a data and numbers junkie and I use my TDEE. The data is in the calories tracked (as accurately as possible) and in the results, not in randomly eating back some number of the calories you've burned. In general, you shouldn't eat below your BMR. A 6 year old needs 1200 calories/day. I can only assume that…
  • I do recommend getting a trainer to at least show you proper form. If you pick a beginning lifting program like Starting Strength or StrongLifts, you can stick to that instead of keeping a trainer on board to work with you long term (hiring a trainer can get pretty expensive). People in the weight room might look…
  • Be careful with using any methods that depend on "servings per container". The listed number of servings and the actual number of servings are usually not the same.
  • I deleted my last MFP account because the forums were so "eat 1200 calories a day you'll be fine" and this thread is making me feel so much better about coming back. White rice and beans pack a fair amount of calories without filling you up too quickly and are both super cheap in bulk. Nuts are also good, but they can get…
