  • Was diagnosed in August last year, started on Levo 75mcg. My levels are normal now, but I can't say that I have noticed any real difference. My doctor said my levels would be normal long before my symptoms would improve....said it would take at least 6 months. I noticed last month there was less hair in the bathroom, so I…
  • I tend to agree with this. Just get moving! If you want to improve your heart, then work out hard enough to breath hard and keep it that way for a while. But any kind of exercise above and beyond your 'normal' is going to make a difference, regardless of your heart rate....
  • maybe if you are a man and really tall... but in general, women do just fine on a 1200 calorie diet, especially if they are sedentary.
  • it's certainly possible to be 98 and healthy at 5 feet tall. Depends on your natural shape really. I have several sisters who struggled to get into the 100s and both of them are closer to the 5'4'' range. My mom was less than 100 pounds throughout her young adulthood, through 9 kids, even. She's 5'3" and she didn't look…
  • I think I'm at 35%-ish , and look like that girl in the third picture. Based on the photos posted, I'll be quite happy at 20-25%. :)
  • read my other comments please! :))

  • I'm pretty sure that not every uses the same 'amount' of calories per day, because we are not the same in size, height, weight, activity level, work type, etc, etc. We all obviously don't need "2000 calories a day" like the nutrition levels say. But is 1200 too low? what's the optimum amount based on what *I* do. I want to…
  • ^^^^this! :) ^^^^
  • the comments on these posts are cracking me up. I'm not *quite* 5'2", 175 right now. Started out around 196 at my heaviest, got down to 162 and then gained about half of it back. Started back at working out in January at 181, I think. I think the reason we shorties look for other shorties on here is that weight…
  • Point taken! :) I'm not on the forums much, so I don't 'see' that sort of thing. The responses just seemed awfully harsh to me right off the bat. I do have a healthy level of skepticism for anything that smacks of a 'magic pill'. Nothing works for me but the good old fashioned eat healthier, exercise more often 'diet' !…

  • another recommendation for the Polar brand! I have an ft7 and love it. :)
  • I'm no expert, but it sound to me like weights, weights, and more weights. I think women are inordinately scared to lift heavy weights, but it seriously takes HUGE amounts of work and eating 'just right' to build the kind of muscle they see on these women body builders. You don't 'accidentally' get big bulky muscles!
  • that's interesting. I use the MapMyWalk for my nightly dog walks in the neighborhood, and it is too high as well. It has me easily at over a hundred calories with a simple 30 minute or so walk, and last time I used my hrm during a walk, I barely burned 60, because my heart rate never got over 110-120 range. I think it…
  • that may be so (and a good rule!), but the post didn't sound like 'selling' to me..... *shrugs* I guess I'm just one of those people who can ignore stuff like this without being offended.

  • I have a Polar FT7 and LOVE it. Was shocked at my actual calories burned vs. the estimates on the machines and the apps I use. Much easier to keep track of calories. That said, I want to get a fitbit soon, because I want to see what I'm burning at rest, and how active I am when I'm not 'working out'. And the fitbit plus…
  • some times it's not about selling, it's about finding what works for you. And if this works for her (I've never heard of it), then good for her. I don't know why the hate for MLMs, personally. It's ok for us to run around and tell everyone how much we love a certain restaurant, or clothing line, or store, or any number of…

  • I've washed it, with no issues whatsoever. I don't wash it very often, to be honest. I'll rinse it out every once in a while in the sink, but that's about it.
  • I hadn't any idea that vertigo was associated with hypothyroidism! I do get that sometimes when I'm crouched or kneeling, and then stand up, everything will go black for a second or three. Wonder if that's the same. It's annoying, but not debilitating. I think my biggest issue is my non-existent metabolism and lack of…
  • I just started back up on it. I started taking it in March of 2011, when I explained to my doctor the trouble i was having losing weight. I was tracking calories, working out 4-5 times a week (biking long distance, hiking etc) and getting nowhere. She prescribed it and I lost 11 pounds the first month. Then another 25…
  • I'm just under 5'2" and have about 40 pounds to lose as well. It's not coming off fast, that's for sure! hahaha. When I first started, I had 55 to lose, and was on phentermine and was tracking calories and riding my bike like a mad woman. I lost 30 pounds in 4 months, but after stopping the diet pill, and pretty much…
  • "diet" anything is bad for you. Period. If food or drink has got any kind of artificial sweetener, I won't touch it.
  • this is true...you can definitely do the machine weights wrong... you have to make sure you've got them set up for your size. I have to adjust the machines all the time at the gym, because I'm short.
  • it's all about finding out what works for you. Everyone is different. I've been at this for a month, and not a pound lost. I'm not eating too little, I know that. I'm exercising regularly and well, so I know it's not that. But, as my doctor said yesterday, my particular body runs like a Prius (very efficient metabolism),…
  • weights with the machines are fine, if you are unsure of how to do free weights correctly, or are intimidated by them. Free weights will get you faster results in less time because they work more muscles. Machines isolate your muscles, but are safer over all. I use both, depending on how I'm feeling and what I'm doing. I'm…
  • I hear ya! Lost 30 pounds last spring ('11)over the course of about 4 months, maintained it until around November, then gained 15 back between November and July of this year. I just completely lost motivation after a separation and moving and having to re-assess my life and what to do work-wise and all that. Joined a…
  • I totally understand! I started out my weight loss journey at an 18, with a few pairs of 20s that I refused to acknowledge really were 20s, lol. I also was squeezing into my 18s big time, but just stopped buying clothes! I got back into my 16s after about 15 pounds down, but still pretty much fit into most of the 18s. At…
  • I was on the depo shot back in my early 20s. When I went on the shot, I weighed maybe 125, didn't have any issues at all, came from a family of skinny people, never thought I'd have to worry at all. I gained 30 pounds in one year on the depo shot and never got it off. It absolutely destroyed my metabolism. I ended up going…
  • but you haven't seen it 'work', what you've seen is your co-worker losing all the water weight she gained from her cruise! As someone mentioned earlier, it's physically impossible to truly 'gain' 10 pounds in one week. absolutely cannot be done. She probably ate a lot of foods that were high in sodium and different from…
  • it was really hard for my ex as well. But it's soo much easier to find GF alternatives now. The biggest issue is in processed foods and stuff you never, ever would think had gluten in it!! It's flipping amazing how much stuff has gluten added to it!
  • My ex figured out he must be gluten intolerant about 2 years ago, and went gluten-free. He saw results within a month and has been GF since. Instead of just switching all his foods, he ate a lot more salads and fruit and meat, and lost 45 pounds in three months. He gained about 10 back as we started introducing breads and…
