First of all, great job on getting into Couch25k! There are so many people who can't bring themselves to even take that first step, and it's awesome that you're already planning ahead for the next week :) I'll throw my vote in for Map My Run as well. The calorie expenditure that app shows is less than what I've seen on my…

Signed up for my first ever, they have a 5k and a 10k (the Gladiator Rock'n Run). There are some videos on the site, it really looks like you can walk it if you want, or go around obstacles if you can't go over them. Plus, there's a beer garden and live music throughout the whole event.

Throwing my vote in for the Polar FT7, I absolutely love it. You know how with MyFitnessPal, you start to learn more about how your diet is affecting you, and notice how different foods really help or hurt? That's what the HRM has done for me when it comes to exercise. They aren't perfect, and if you want to get the most…

This is awesome! And who knows, maybe you'll love it and never do it the slow and easy way again...would love to hear how this turns out!

Honestly, I'm finding it easier to lose the weight now. When I was younger I didn't care about it as much, but now I'm taking it much more seriously.
-
This sounds like fun, please add me!

43 years young, and still got another 50 years left to go!

Feel like I'm 20, look like I'm 60, but really 43 here...and finally moving on to the things I should have done as a kid, like that mud run at the Rose Bowl in Oct! Thanks to MFP, I'm getting more fit than I've been in many, many years

Welcome to MFP! Start by logging everything you eat in your food diary here, without trying to change anything. Sure, there's a good chance you'll go over on calories, especially with the bread. That's ok, just log absolutely everything. Then, a few days in, start looking at your diary. Try to find the things which are…

You are truly awesome! Your story is exactly the kind of thing which inspires me to stick to my own workout schedule. Hopefully, I'll be able to run a 5k like you by the end of the year. Thank you for posting this!

Oh and how can I forget avocado and soy milk! Both of those cause extreme nausea for me, make me very sleepy, and if I eat too much (like if the guacamole is really, really worth it) causes splotches all over my face which last for days. And yes, I am stupid enough to still eat the guacamole, knowing how bad it is for…

I have this, it is pretty terrible. Many fruits and raw vegetables cause the reactions. All of the follow-up posts seem to match my issue exactly. Here's a link to the topic in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_allergy_syndrome Take a look in there at cross reactions. In my own experience, that chart is pretty…

As I understand it (and boy could I be wrong), it's not just about the stored calories, but also about the process of storing them, and the waste afterwards. If you eat 3500 calories, but the food weighs, let's say, 1 oz, then yes, for awhile, you will only be 1 oz heavier. But then you eat or drink something else, more of…

Great job! Love to see good effort pay off like that

They've got these frozen vegetable "steamers" where you just pop the bag in the microwave. It's not a full meal, but it is fast, filling, fairly cheap, and a good source of nutrition.

Welcome back Jessi! I can sure relate to falling off that wagon...and it's not easy at all, knowing that what I eat, and whether or not I am getting fit, is out there for people to see. Glad you're back, and hope to see you lots on the forums!

Congrats! Awesome milestone

I began at a bit over 270 this spring (a few months before MyFitnessPal), and man those knees were killing me. Best thing I found was indoor biking, mixed with light weight lifting. I'm still doing that, but now using a power meter with a mounted bike hooked up to a computer (using a program I'm proud to say I wrote…

I love seeing fellow gamers in here! Lately I've been going out for runs or jumping on a bike more than logging in to WoW, but that's mostly because I just don't know anyone playing the game anymore.

First off, congrats on the half-marathon! I've started running again myself, and with luck won't be too far behind you... So with this injury, it sounds a bit like what used to happen to me when I was younger...I would overdo it, and get muscle strains which would sometimes last several weeks. Anti-inflammatory drugs (like…

One thing I did was to buy some giant bags of frozen mixed vegetables. They fill me up, there's great nutrition in them, they're cheap, and if I add a bit of chicken or fish to them they really aren't so bad. Congrats on quitting smoking btw! Keep at it...it's been a few years for me, and I can really feel the difference.

Hmm...I can go a few steps further on this (don't judge me!): First CD: Def Leppard - Hysteria First cassette tape: Heart (self-titled) First record (music only): Oingo Boingo (self-titled) First record (any): Disney’s Thrilling Chilling Sounds of the Haunted House First 8-track: Carpenters - Passage First reel-to-reel:…

For me, this really is a daily struggle. The way which has worked for me to "push through" is just to remember that in the end, I am eating better, exercising more, and in general being healthier than I was. If I don't lose the pounds for the week, well yeah, I didn't hit my goal. But you know what else I didn't do? I…

From last Friday, down 4.0 lbs...from Aug 1st, down 1.7. Not sure which one I was meant to track, so there's them both. This means it is pizza day today, right? ....right? >.>

As I understand it, if your kidneys are healthy, and at your age, you can drink 15 liters (about 60 cups) a day before you have problems, as long as you don't drink it all at once. So long as you aren't losing the balance of electrolytes, you'll be ok. Problems are usually seen in infants and people running marathons, but…

It's kind of like jumping into a swimming pool, isn't it? Getting into any community and posting can be tough at first, but a community as warm and supportive as this one makes that first step so nice. Congrats on your weight loss so far! Hope to see that continue :)

Great job, and what wonderful motivation!

For workouts, yes training shoes will be better. Running shoes are designed more for forward motion, and won't give you the same support for the side-to-side motion in training. They'll wear out faster because of that, too.

So this is where Team Blue is hanging out! Looking forward to seeing how this all turns out, it's the first challenge I'm actually able to take part in. Hope to see more from everyone soon!

I used to get these all the time in the army. Two things helped for me: 1) do a stretch where you point your toe, almost like you're pushing all the way down on a gas pedal...this helps both to prevent it, and to work it out after; 2) aspirin...actual aspirin, not ibuprofen or acetaminophen or any other kind of pain killer.
