  • Yes, many people find it hard to go with only 1200 cals (myself included). I would add fat and replace non-fat proteins with full-fat ones.

  • Also! (sorry I have a lot of opinions on this topic), it's a very psychological problem for me. If I'm stressed out at all, I won't go. It's important to make sure you're relaxed, breathing through your news (sends signals to your brain that everything is fine), and to not get too frustrated on days when you don't go.…

  • How many calories are you eating? Are you getting enough fats? for me, getting healthy fat is key to getting the pipes moving. Also, coffee...

  • This! Don't be afraid of trial and error. Especially of the error part. It takes experimentation and tracking to figure out what works best, so don't work under any deadlines.
  • oh my goodness, yes. And it's not the food I miss, because as others have said I can still eat mostly whatever I want as long as it fits into my calories, it's the not having to count. I miss just eating some food without worrying about exact weights and portions and logging it into my app. Sigh, but I guess it wasn't…
  • Are you joking, or is that actually a thing?!
  • Olives?! I never would have thought of that! That's awesome I love olives!
  • She says she is NETTING 1250. I would actually guess that you (or MFP) might be over estimating your exercise calories and you might be eating too much as a result. Experiment a bit a see what works for you, but I have good results eating 50% of my exercise calories back.
  • I don't actually have an opinion on this particular issue, I just gotta say that arguments likes this drive me insane, lol. The billions of human beings throughout history died by age 30 and did not have access to the same types, variety, and amounts of food we do today. Asking for advice for optimal health or optimal…
  • I used to do this! I was on weight watchers and would save about 75% of my points for dinner. I agree with everyone that it's about what works for you, but you might want to ask yourself a bit more about why you do that. For me, at least, it was because I would get panicky if I had what I thought were too few…
  • I'm pretty sure saying "please don't comment on the 1200/cal diet" is exactly the opposite of an invitation...
  • I see what you're saying, but I've posted things like asking about how to up my fat intake or what are good high protein snacks for a 1200 diet. That is not at all asking for opinions on my 1200 cal diet (which is actually a 1600/day average diet when looking at the whole week, but I am asking about getting in fats on 1200…
  • Okkkk thanks, I think I understand now. I will continue to lift and do squats etc.. I agree that people on this site can be WAY too judgmental about the 1200/cal diet when that is not the point of the thread and they have no idea about other factors. (People also don't understand that 4'9 women can and should eat a lot…
  • Thanks, everyone! I am getting a lot of good ideas, although it does seem difficult to get enough fat while staying under 1200 calories. So my next question is: can one count fats as a weekly average, the way I do with calories, or do I need a minimum amount every single day? As I said in my original post, I only eat…
  • Thanks, all. I'm just worried that with full fat dairy etc. it'll be difficult to stay under 1200 calories/day and feel full. But I guess I do have some junk in my diet that I could replace with avocados and dairy! Nuts seems to contribute to the protein problem, though.
  • Congrats!! That's awesome! Keep up the good work!
  • oh! I always forget that Starbucks carries food. Thanks!
  • Oh man, I LOVE Indian food and I put cumin in EVERYTHING even if it's not Indian.... But, if you're not a fan of cumin or of curries in general, I recommend tandoori chicken. It's just... chicken. It'll look red, but it'll taste pretty "normal". Also, naan, which is very high in calories but is super delicious and no cumin.
  • Oh, gracious. Just because something isn't a problem for you doesn't mean that all science, or that other people's opposite anecdota, is incorrect. I'm so happy for you that you don't have this problem, but to claim that what doctors have told me and what many other people on this thread agree with is "completely false"…
  • I have had life-long battles with constipation (starting from birth, seriously) and several doctors have told me this. Also, I just know it from my daily life. If I eat more than 3 bananas a week, I suffer. And it sucks because they're delicious and filling.
  • i have the same problem. Some say it has to do with an increase in protein? I think, for me, it's stress related. But, yes, you should stop eating bananas IMMEDIATELY! They are the enemy of healthy bowls. Stop eating them, increase your fiber, drink coffee, and most importantly, relax and stop thinking about it. When I'm…
  • "Remember Why You're Doing This" and, when I feel like giving up and eating ALL THE THINGS, I just remind myself that every day I give in is another deficit day I'll have to add to the journey to make up for it (because I have a binge eating problem).
  • Thanks, guys! These are awesome suggestions!!!
  • I don't have specifics on anything, really. I'm fairly new to calorie counting and am focusing on keeping the number down, regardless of things like sodium and carbs, which I will worry about once I have the hang of this. I just know that high protein is essential to keep me sated. Thanks for your help!
  • It's hard to say without knowing more about it, but it sounds like you may be overestimating how many calories you burn at the gym? Both MFP and gym machines wayyy overestimate calorie burn. Especially if you're walking or doing the stationary bike (instead of running), it seems doubtful you'd get anywhere close to burning…
  • Thanks!!! I was just freaking out because everyone on here talks like eating 1200/day will make me gain 100 lbs in two seconds or something. I'm all about the averages.
  • It's all about what works for you! I personally am incapable of having a cookie after dinner and then calling it a day. If I have one cookie, I will have ten cookies. Therefore, I eat very low cal for most of the week but have one planned "cheat day" during which I eat literally anything I want. The trade off is I have to…
