  • then how do you know how many calories you're eating per day? do you only eat pre-packaged foods where the package is exactly one serving?
  • okay, it's all set up and i did a workout. here's what i found - first off, it's small, it fits in my room with no problem, and it's got angles galore, like a functional trainer as long as you don't need the handles separated much. i was able to do all sorts of stuff you can't do with free weights. my 6' 7" husband used…
  • you could download endomondo's app, sync it with your MFP account and it counts calories for circuit training and all sorts of other stuff. you can also hook it up to a HRM if you like.
  • i've read many times that if you're more or less hydrated, bodyfat scales will show very different readings.
  • do you weigh all your food on a food scale? the poster above nailed it with the portion size thing. my husband's bread varies more than that - none of the slices is only 1 serving as per the label; they're all more than 1 serving, some quite a bit more. and using measuring cups and spoons for food isn't accurate, either.…
  • i have some questions. how tall are you, how are you measuring your food - do you use a food scale? i see you have servings like 5 1/2 links or a square of food by inch. if you weigh foods, you often get different results than if you judge by a physical size or use a measuring cup, and always weigh before cooking, not…
  • go to exercise diary, then decide if you're logging as strength training or cardio (which would mean you're keeping your heart rate up throughout the exercise session). if you move from exercise to exercise, you could log it as circuit training. add the amount of time you worked out, then click the button that says "Add…
  • the problem is that losing so aggressively means you've lost muscle, and muscle is what burns fat, so you'll need to eat even less calories to maintain your weight. also not healthy for your heart, which is also a muscle. and if you're resistance training and losing that fast, that means you need more protein to repair…
  • this is correct.
  • noah's bagels says there's 290 calories in a 106 gram egg bagel. my kids eat noah's, and i doubt they've ever made a 106 gram bagel.
  • the MFP numbers are only estimates, and they don't really "know" how many calories you burned. if you get hungry eat something tasty, maybe with protein in it. if you don't feel hungry, lightheaded, weak or dizzy, don't eat more.
  • my friends and news are back. check yours.
  • not pooping can mean your body has an extra pound or two stored in your colon. also saltier food can mean your body stores more water. for that matter, eating lots of vegetables like lettuce can make the scale move up till you poop them out again, as they have plenty of weight with few calories. and this stuff happens to…
  • not quite the same, but i have t2 diabetes, and my hair loss does slow or even stop after i've lost enough weight. at my higher weights, hair loss is pretty constant. it had stopped when i hit my goal weight, and when i put the weight back on, hair is dropping out again.
  • i've had similar problems when eating too many fruits, veggies and fiber.
  • have you talked to your doctor about this? if not, you should do so immediately! maybe he/she can prescribe you anti nausea meds. in the meantime, can you eat stuff like peanut butter, full fat sour cream, cheese or almonds?
  • your expectations are neither realistic nor healthy. to lose weight at that speed after the first week, you won't be losing just fat - you'll be losing muscle, which means your body will be burning less calories every freaking day. over-exercising can also weaken you. don't overdo - your goal to lose weight and lower your…
  • i dropped out of my only step challenge because between hip issues (bursitis), knee issues, a still-healing ankle and scar tissue in one thigh, walking a lot regularly causes me more problems than it solves. good luck to everyone here, and wish i could join in!
  • i'm 5' 3", and when i was 14 through 17 and the same height, i ranged from a size 0 to a size 4, depending on the outfit and i had a 19" waist. omg - i just realized my waist is a little over double what it was then!
  • if you are truly logging all your food and drink accurately and are sure you don't have diabetes or thyroid issues (determined by medical tests ordered by your doctor), and you're not losing weight, cut your daily calories a bit at a time till you find the amount where you do lose weight. the numbers you'll find online…
  • "According to the FDA, patients may experience stomach pain, irritation, potential leakage, bleeding, and infection to name a few." :( i had a friend who used to binge and purge, but the thing is that he was quite slender - only he felt he was overweight. with something like this i believe he would have starved himself to…
  • good for you for working out with your daughter!
  • i used to use machines and got great results. you can switch back and forth any time, but switching back to free weights may require you drop your weight just a little as the stabilizer muscles may not get a workout using machines. still, i liked 'em. i used to increase the weight for each set. as far as overall increases,…
  • if you want to stop yo-yoing, weigh all your food, log using accurate database entries and stick to calorie goals that work. throwing away your scale or working out is optional, as many people lose weight without doing either, but working out and getting stronger helps one look better and it's always a plus to be stronger.
  • agree 1000% if something is working, there's nothing to worry about, and it sounds like the OP is doing well.
  • no, that's not correct to assume. if you feel great - no weakness, dizziness, trouble sleeping - it means you're probably eating enough but it could mean you're excited and euphoric with your success and aren't feeling your body. this happened to me when i was losing too fast. you don't want to lose more than 2 pounds per…
  • if you need to regulate your blood sugar, you could have half a serving of oatmeal twice a day sweetened with stevia or a non-calorie sweetener. i find having 20 grams of oats causes much lower increase in blood sugar, and having it twice means i can have the same amount of calories without the spikes. maybe next time, you…
  • considering your height and gender, your body would need more than 1000 calories to sustain itself when in a coma. literally. losing a pound per day of fat would be pretty much impossible. what's happening at such a low calorie budget is your body will need to consume part of your muscle to fuel itself. not only will you…
  • bsmith986, good for you for finding a way to get some motion into your day :) my deskcycle is being delivered sometime today. i'm really looking forward to using it :) i thought about getting a fitdesk, and i might later, but the smaller crank arms on the deskcycle will be better for my knees right now - and i can pedal…
