  • I've given up or drastically reduced: Laziness High Blood Pressure Empty Calories High Blood Sugar Inches from my waist line pounds from my weight Eating out (reduced) Being sure I would always be fat Being sure I could never run Being sure I could never enjoy being healthy But i've gained: Years on my life expectancy…
  • Yep. I have non-prolific retinopathy, which hopefully will just be a constant reminder that this isn't a fad, something i'm trying out, etc. No more 2nd chances. People often ask me how I decided after 10+ years of being type 2 to get motivated and actually control my disease...the answer? Because I finally believed, with…
  • 46:11, almost 4 minutes faster than I thought I'd do. 1692 of about 2300. Amazing experience!
  • Thanks! Tomorrow's the day, the butterflies i feel today make me wonder how much adrenaline i'll be generating tomorrow haha.
  • Thank you for posting this - I am running my first 5k tomorrow, and am so nervous. I'm so glad I know not to wear the race shirt, haha.
  • I have one more run before my 5k on Saturday. I drove the route last night - it's daunting. The first half mile or so is really really steep, but then the next half mile is pretty straight down hill, then another mile of slightly downhill. I guess it's good that the uphill part is in the very beginning, but it's…
  • Hi everyone - been an interesting 3 months. From an A1C of 10.8 in april, to 6.2 on friday, significant weight loss, drastic lifestyle change...i'm a jogger now?!...what a strange, wonderful trip it's been so far. Been battling hypoglycemia the last couple weeks - i've cut my insulin (Lantus, so long lasting once a day…
  • Hi Everyone - i got 2 of the 3 days of week 8 done this week, i'm skipping the third due to the 5k coming up for me on saturday the 23rd - i had a busy weekend where i probably walked 10 miles overall, so while i could have jogged this evening, i'm just burnt out and sore and going to rest. So this week it's w9d1 monday,…
  • I wrapped up W7D3 Last night. W8 days this week and a 5k next saturday the 23rd to wrap up week 9. yay! I was able to avoid shin pain the first few weeks by running on the grass next to the sidewalk at the local park. It let my legs get used to jogging and the repetitive stress. Then i graduated to asphalt and that's where…
  • if you do walk, don't force it - if it's painful, don't do it. if walking is bearable, then still don't push too hard. you definitely don't want a small injury (if it is one) to become a larger one due to impatience ;)
  • i need to wrapup week 7 tonight - i was out of town, and although i took my running shoes with every intention of getting up early sunday and jogging, getting in at almost 2am sunday morning, having to be somewhere early, excuse excuse excuse, i didn't do it. So i'll finish it off tonight, then get week 8 knocked out by…
  • So the last time I ran was friday July 1st until today. I had a very busy weekend, and 2 days turned into 4 into 5 and blah. So i forced myself to get out and run tonight. 3 minutes into it i looked at my watch and thought there's no effing way i'm going to make it. 3 minutes later i looked down and couldn't figure out why…
  • yep, those. They taste fantastic, they are hardly noticeably different than normal flour tortillas. Tortillas in general are just not healthy friendly, but these ones work if you (like me) just have to have them.
  • I take control by logging as I go, planning meals ahead of time if i'm going out, and weighing the nutrition vs the amount of exercise i'll have to do to regain it, or the amount of weight loss i'll be giving up if i indulge.
  • i have the polar FT4, works great. You can also take your pulse at each stage, and come up with a rough average of your pulse rate over the time period, and plug that into the calculator. it won't be perfect, but it'll give you an idea. i found it better to do 15 seconds of pulse count x4 to get heart rate than to do 6 or…
  • *whistles innocently*
  • Here's what i want to hear: You're doing well/great/super/a good job/etc I am proud of you Keep up the hard work Here's what i don't want to hear: How your friend/neighbor/relative/cat/dog/gerbil lost weight Your diatribe on the good/evil/indifference of dieting/exercise/nutrition How much better i must feel How hard it…
  • whatcha mean? You can use whatever app or podcast or whathaveyou that you want! =)
  • It's not nothing, you just learned a way not to do it, that's all. You can do this!! Don't be too hard on yourself, and don't lose hope. Anything worth accomplishing is not easy, and winners aren't always the ones who do it perfect the first time, they are often the ones who keep at it despite the setbacks.
  • W6D3 done, it's getting harder to keep my HR in the target zone, but my legs don't want to move any faster...not sure what to do, do i just man up and run faster and take the pain? lol. 25 minutes was not nearly as exciting as the 20 minute one, but it's done, I didn't walk, and i'm feeling pretty good. I think i'm…
  • Have a fantastic holiday weekend if you're here in the US, enjoy but don't overdo it- monday's weigh-in day, don't throw away this weeks hard work ;) (and don't try to be sneaky and weigh in then go crazy thinking you have a week to recover, haha)
  • i have forgotten to check back into the post, i'm bad! Completed wednesday's challenge without knowing about it, haha. Have a great thursday!
  • Week 6 Day 2 done here too. I realized at the end that this is the last day of the program that has a "break" walk. From here out, it's all warmup/jog/cooldown. I signed up for a 5k here with the local NFL team the Saturday that ends week 9, so very good timing - my last day of C25K "training" will be a timed 5k. excited!
  • I just created a custom one - C25k Intervals, and use it. Before I had a Heart Rate Monitor, I would take my pulse during the walks and come up with an average for the duration, then put that into a heart rate/calorie calculator (…
  • W6D1 completed last evening. It was a little more difficult than I thought it would be, but it wasn't hard. I was in a hurry and had somewhere to be, and i didn't stretch out very well, so my legs were a little tight. Finished it with no problem though, just a lot of mental complaining to myself (haha). I find myself…
  • haha yeah, w6d1 seems easy peasy! hope it cools off for you, if it finally gets "hot" around here this summer, i might have to run before work.
  • Good job! Good luck with your husband's surgery!
  • Smiling like a WINNER is more like it! =)
  • Way to go!!!
  • I did it too! W5D3 is part of my past! The first eight minutes were fine no problem at all. The halfway announcement at 10 was encouraging, and before I realized there was just five minutes left...i started getting giddy at 2 to go.. I was grinning and wanting to fist pump with one to go. It felt so amazing! I didn't track…
