How'd that saying go? "I may be fat but you're ugly and I can lose weight." Just remember you're losing weight but he'll probably be stuck with that illness and personality problem for the rest of his life.

If you want an approximate number, most workouts are designed to burn about 600 calories to someone who is able to 'pass' the fit test. P90X is designed with the person in 'okay' shape who is looking to improve upon that. However, that doesn't mean you can't do it. Just modify, modify, modify. Take longer breaks with the…

Someone linked a great article about fat spot reduction and why it's not possible because of the way the body stores fat. If I remember it correctly, it explained that the body stores fat all around the body in a 'chain' type configuration, linking fat up in a long strand. When you start losing the fat it starts at the…

If you're training for a marathon than I would definitely recommend Insanity for the massive amounts of cardio you'll be getting. I'm sure the strength training in the P90X program couldn't hurt but you'll probably benefit from the endurance training of Insanity more. If you'd like a bit of strength training you may toss…

I have a feeling that MFP's calorie and nutrient distribution are for those who just plan on dieting without working out in which case the default setting is probably fine. However, if you are exercising, particularly strength training, you are going to need the extra protein. I followed a guideline that was recommended by…

Pre weight training workouts I take a double scoop of Jack3d and a post workout protein of whatever I happen to get on sale. I started out with the GNC Wheybolic Amp 60 or something but that was expensive. I'm working my way through a Twinlab Whey Protein in chocolate and have a vanilla one lined up after that. $20 for the…

You definitely need at least a day or two of rest if you are doing more strenuous workouts but if you're going for light exercise then it can't hurt to do a little every day. If you're lifting weights, for example, the act of exercising those muscles is actually tearing the fibers so the body needs time to rebuild. I…

Yesterday was my rest day so no workout but I snacked on half a bag of sour cream and onion lays potato chips and two cans of root beer while watching tv. Weighed in this morning and was 2 pounds heavier than yesterday. It's probably just water retention from sodium as I was only slightly over my TEE calorie count for the…

Better to smoke 1 cigarette a day than a pack a day, wouldn't you say? Of course not smoking is not healthy but if someone is able to reduce their consumption considerably, whether it be smoking or food or whatever, at least it's a step in the right direction. Some people can't quit cold turkey so it's better to make…

I used to fence in college and I would love to get back into it some day. That was the only 'workout' I've ever done that never felt like I was working out. Only problem with it is that it's a very one sided sport, meaning that one side of your body gets more work than the other. So I had some nice quads and calves on my…

I've been taking 3600 mg of CLA for the last few months (3 1200mg geltabs 3 times a day before meails) and I can't say if it's helped or not because I lost weight before I started on it and I lost weight while I was on it as well. It is a naturally occurring fatty acid found in meats and dairy and there have been studies…

Don't resist bacon. It's not THAT bad for you calorie wise. Now if you really want something sinful try candied bacon. Take your bacon, cover it in brown sugar, lay it out on a baking pan and bake in the oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until slightly burnt. The brown sugar caramelizes and its like 'dog treats…

Think of it this way, you probably didn't gain those 4 pounds in 20 days so you're ahead of the curve! It's been less than a month and you're already 4 pounds down! It's progress in the right direction!

It may sound gross but I always weight myself before and after bathroom visits just to see the difference. Mainly because I got a new scale a few weeks ago that measures in tenths instead of half pound increments.

Enjoy the food that you had. Go to sleep. Wake up tomorrow with a fresh calorie counter. Get back on track and keep going. Easy! Don't ever feel guilty about going over for one day. You've worked hard to stick to your goals for this long, don't let one measly day discourage you. Or two. Just so long as you keep going…

Time for a math lesson! Whatever you put into MFP as your goal loss per week already calculates how many calories you can eat WITHOUT exercise and still lose weight. So if your goal loss is 2lbs per week that is a 1000 calorie deficit per day. Why? Because 1 pound is about 3500 calories so 2 pounds is 7000 calories divided…

You should really look into getting a HRM with a chest strap so that it can take a continuous reading of your HR so it will give you your max and average HR. That's the only way to get an accurate reading of calories burned. I started with one of those touch ones but it wasn't accurate at all. I didn't want the…

OxyElite Pro is from USP Labs and you can find it online or at your local GNC. It's not cheap but I love it for the energy boost it gives me. It keeps me alert in the morning, awake through the afternoon and the energy I need to do my workouts in the evenings. I stopped drinking coffee (heavy cream and heavy sugar), energy…

Their ingredients may be fresh but once I saw how many calories I was consuming there I stopped going. Even if you get a bowl, no cheese, guac, or sour cream you would be alarmed at how much sodium is in their food. http://www.chipotlefan.com/index.php?id=nutrition_calculator Build your meal on that site and prepare to be…

Just keep it up and keep logging your food and exercising! My first 2 weeks here I didn't lose any where, third week I lost 1 pound then each subsequent week it just got better and better. Weigh your self at the same time every day (preferably first thing in the morning) just to make sure its consistent since your body…

If its the same one that I have (glass surface with metal edges and blue indiglo screen from Target) then I'm pretty sure it's off. I have an Omron Body Fat tool and I've used the Navy measurement method and both of those numbers are pretty close to eachother while the WW scale was higher by 3 or 4 percent.

Thanks for asking the question and the answers. I think I might have to pick up one of those nerdy eyeglass bands for the days I don't wear my contacts and need to work out. I hate it when they slide down to the end of my nose!

My brother in law is trying to quit and he's been using one of those electronic cigarettes that release water vapor and give you a small nicotine hit. He says it sucks and is nothing like the real thing but I see him constantly at it and he's been cigarette free (according to him) for a month now. Might be worth a shot for…

Here's a youtube link someone had posted before that not only gives a visual but also an explanation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozt-V0PPJaw

4 oz of meat is a measure of mass. You can't put it into a cup that measures volume. If you buy the meat at the store it's usually weighed for you so if you bought a pound of beef just estimate into quarters if you don't have a scale. Or just quadruple the recipe and have leftovers!

If weight loss were a science we'd all be a lot more slim.

2250 is your TDEE. Your BMR using age 24, male, 6', 170lbs is as you suspected, 1799 calories a day. You can go to TOOLS in the menu and there is a BMR calculator. Remember that BMR is the energy your body expends at complete rest for 24 hours. The 2250 number is the calories you expend on an average day according to…

You can at least get started to try out the videos. Just because it's a full program doesn't mean you have to follow it to work out. I've been picking out routines I want from that series and the original P90 series and mixing my workouts up. I'm not at a point where I can follow the program strictly but at least I'm…

This method seems like it would work quite well for those who are guessing at their calories burned in an exercise and estimating how much calories they consume because it ensures that they get enough calories to fuel their bodies regardless of exercise or not. Like damonmath said earlier, it is rearranging the numbers but…

Technically it has water in it but personally I don't count anything towards my water count except water, my green tea diluted with water and the water I use to mix up my protein shake.
