I've heard a lot about the HRM's so i went and bought one today. A woman's Sportline solo 925 $80+. You have to enter in all the normal stuff like you're height, weight, age, your stride length ect....I exercise twice a day for half an hour on the treadmill burning around 400 calories daily (according to. MFP) I tried the watch out tonight doing my work out i was excited to see how it worked So i did 6 min jogging at 3.0 and 25 mins at 2.0.. It may not sound like a lot but i weigh 359lbs for me it's a nice work-out! Well the watch said i only burned 49 calories in 31 minutes!!!! So now I'm more confused than ever! I've lost 4 lbs in the 5 days I've been logging and exercising on here. So i think i may take it back and just continue with what i've been doing.

Did it come with a chest strap and if so did u wet it ?0

no it's just the wrist watch, The box said it did all this great stuff like step count (which i walked with it for about a minute and it didnt record anything) and it says its a heart rate monitor, but you have to touch the front of the watch with your finger and it will take your pulse, its not like a constant monitoring device...0

The ones with the chest strap are more accurate , i would suggest u take it back, yup u have to touch it about every five min to get a constant reading0

^what she said!
No WAY you only burned 41 cals. The best ones have a chest strap, to pick up your heart rate consistently. I bet it missed most of your beats.
Your doing great keep up the good work!!!!!0 -
Are you suppose to wet the chest straps?0

run away from sportline. IMO they are crap.
Get yourself a Polar or Garmin. No HRM is completely accurate, but sportline is the worst (personal experience).
You should easily smoke through 100 cals every 10 mins.0 -
For that amount of money you can get a polar ft4! I just bought mine a few days ago and I love it!0

If it's not monitoring your heart rate the whole time, it's just guessing based on the amount of steps what the intensity is. I just got the Polar FT4 for father's day today and it seems to work really well. It has the chest strap though and yes you need to wet the chest strap before you put it on.0

it depends, My sportline says that if you are working out in cold temps when you may not start sweating right away, it's best to wet the electrodes first before putting it on. If it's warm and you start sweating soon, it will do the job for you. I always wet mine, just to be safe. I have a SportLine SX (i love it) and it came with the chest strap for only $47 at Walmart.0

Def take it back and get the Polar FT4 for about the same $$. You will love it.0

You should really look into getting a HRM with a chest strap so that it can take a continuous reading of your HR so it will give you your max and average HR. That's the only way to get an accurate reading of calories burned. I started with one of those touch ones but it wasn't accurate at all. I didn't want the 'uncomfortable' chest strap but honestly, you get used to it and you also have peace of mind that you're getting an accurate reading. Also, unless you really like complicated gadgets without a solid owner's manual I would suggest trying a different brand than Sportline. I have their Duo 1060 and while I love all the features it has (pedometer, history tracking, cool down timer, touch bezel for instant heart rating + strap for continuous) it's a very complicated unit to operate and the manual just barely gives you enough information to figure it out yourself. If you spent $80 on this one you're in the price range of the Polar units which are probably the most popular.0

just the conductor not the whole thing0 -
I know it's expensive, but a body bugg is a great investment and will accurately tell you what you are burning.0

I have one of these. Its important every few mins, especially if you have speeded up or slowed down to check your rate again. It essentially calculates the last rate you had when pressed and shows you burning at that rate vs time. If you started running, your heart rate is higher but still only counting at the rate your heart was when walking.0
