Since I originally posted this over 5 years ago, I finished nursing school. I have now been working as a full time RN for almost 2 years. Since this post, I took a general nutrition class that was 4 days per week. I also took a separate nursing nutrition class (which was MUCH more difficult). The more I learn, the more I…

I don't know if you are open to a little sucralose (Splenda)??? If so, try splenda to taste, whip in food processor or with electric mixer until smooth, then add some pure lime juice and dab of vanilla. It's like key lime pie. Mix with spring fruits, like strawberries, and it makes a great fruit salad. This works with…

I am shopping too. I am leaning toward Garmin 1) it has a more sensitive built in gps. with charge 2, I would have to have my phone. I run under trees a lot, and I hike, so Garmin is more important to me that way. 2) it is waterproof. With kayaking and swimming, it would be great to be able to track.....The BIG problem I…

The top pic is my street where I run, when I don't have time to go hiking. Some of these are within minutes of my home or work. Some are within a couple hours. I love the northwest. I love this post!!!! Thanks all for sharing!

Hi, recently returned to mfp. My new job allows me to be off for 8 days in a row every other week (I work really long shifts 6 days in a row). Anyhoo, this has allowed me much backpacking and hiking time this summer. In fact, I have hiked somewhere every other week since beginning of January. I live on Olympic Peninsula.…

what attitude? I eat desserts occasionally. My concern is that my mom truly believes that just because something is gluten free, it is healthy, even if it is loaded with sugar and fat. There are several health care professionals who have spoken about how concerned they are about this trend too. They see their patients…

My mom has been doing this for over a year. But yes, I have a plan. It saddens me, but I have a plan. My reason for this post wasn't so much to ask for advice, but to maybe awaken those who may be doing this to their families. I understand that it's easy to share our enthusiasm over something that we feel works for us, but…

1. I once gave training advice to Dave Matthews before I knew who he was. 2. I am a roller coaster fanatic 3. I don't drink alcohol, and I never have 4. I moved an average of once a year, growing up 5. I twirl my hair when I'm relaxed.

um....gee...yeah, I want it to be all about me...not. I probably shouldn't respond to such a judgement about me, but it is obvious you didn't understand the point of my original post. My frustration with her posting her recipes on fb is not because she isn't focused on me. It's because she preaches to everyone how healthy…

Thanks for the sympathizing. Yes, I'm annoyed but more concerned. However, I can't discuss any concerns with her. I'm just a certified personal trainer, studying to be a nurse. And she is a psychologist. What the heck do I know? So really, my only options are as one poster suggested: That is to politely ask her not to…

That's hilarious

For a person (in this case, my mom, to preach to me about how healthy going gluten free is....to make sugary desserts every day....I'll say something. I think it's stupid. All that stuff is fine once in a while, but don't offer me s'amores and tell me how damn healthy it is. Anyway, yeah, I need to have a nice talk with…

I used to LOVE to visit my mom. I drove 6 hours to see her at least every other weekend for years. Yes, she's gone on tangents before, but she has never been so adamantly preachy and annoying about it before.

thanks....I needed that ;)

She is self diagnosed. I have asked her if she has been tested for celiac. She says it doesn't matter. She is gluten intolerant.

congratulations! I have taught fitness for years, and I LOVE Zumba more than anything else I have taught. it is more fun with others, if it's taught right. Feel free to take my class for free if you ever come to northwest Washington for vacation. I just think that's awesome, and I would love to welcome you to my class! I…

That part is pretty beautiful, I must admit! He's still very in love with his wife.

Well, he certainly doesn't need me for motivation. But he wants to add some variety to his workout, and do some more strength training and learn it correctly. He's moving into a facility with more equipment. So I will add to his routine, a little at a time. I don't want to mess with a good thing.

You could do a walk run program. Look up some runner's world magazines at the library to learn how to do this. As others mentioned the library is a great source for videos, if you can play those. Success is not always a number on a scale. It could be getting better at something. i.e. going from walking 30 minutes to slowly…

Most salads at most restaurants are not very heatlhy or filling, so while a pizza hut salad might curb your hunger just a bit, it probably won't give you the nutrition you need. I imagine there are more veggies in subways, and more choices with what to garnish it. My concern is why do you need his permission? Just go ahead…

I'm not saying I would tell her, but I've been biting my tongue for years. Today, I just had to vent. sorry.
