I don't feel guilty per se, but if I miss a scheduled run I seem to be in a saltier mood.

I plan on eating anything and everything I want and loving every moment of it. Rather than trying to add every little thing I eat, I am thinking if I quick add about 2500 calories for thanksgiving dinner, that should about cover it. Of course I am in the middle of training for the Honolulu Marathon and have my longest…

Love it!

I don't do low carb because I actually want to have energy during my intense workouts. I can see it helping if you only want to lose in the short term, but if you are wanting to stay down at a healthy weight, it seems like the best thing is to just watch your overall calorie intake. Eat in moderation. Fuel your workouts.

My reward for achieving a new PR in the 10K I ran back in June was new running shoes and a trip to Buffalo Wild Wings.

It sounds like you are running to fast. Try slowing down your pace in order to build up your endurance.

People who drink diet soda tend to gain weight because they use the zero calories in the drink as an excuse to eat more. So it's the extra calories consumed elsewhere that causes the weight gain, not necessarily the diet soda. If you keep your diet in check, then there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to drink diet…

If you already have a good running base (10-15 miles per week average) then you should be able to train for a marathon in 16-18 weeks. I ran my first one this may and am training for my second in December. Check out Hal Higdon's training plans.

I used to eat yoplait daily and now after eating greek yogurt (fage, chobani, oikos, etc.) yoplait tastes like I'm eating pure sugar. Still tasty, but not something I want to consume daily anymore.

millerll - you are just a beast! (and i mean that in a good way). Keep on tearing it up! You've definitely got me beat on DL by more than 50 lbs!

For fun scenery I would definitely choose a Disney race. They have 2 halfs at Disneyland and I think 2-3 halfs at Walt Disney World to choose from.

Eat them. They are good for you.

I actually get really good mileage out of paper tape. You can buy a roll in the drug store for a couple dollars. I criss-cross 2 strips over each nipple and I'm good to go. I have had success with the tape staying on for up to 18 miles (3.5 hours). And I run in Hawaii and sweat A LOT so that is saying something.

Not a bad idea, just a way to trick your mind and if it works for you, then roll with it.

My first official 5K time was 29:11 (May 2010).

I researched it. The stress from running can increase the cortisol level in your body, but as your body becomes used to the stress of running, the cortisol levels decrease. And just to play devils advocate, have you decided that you hate running and that it prevents you personally from losing weight out of personal…

That is the funniest thing I've read on here in a while. Running preventing you from burning fat and losing weight? Seriously?!
-
I hate it because it's hard and takes me out of my comfort zone...But then again, that's why I love it so much too. There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment after finishing a tough run, even if I'm cursing myself the whole way.

"Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus. No joke. It really is my power song.

I feel no guilt at all. I eat to fuel my workouts. Performance is at least three levels higher than weight loss on my importance meter.

greek yogurt, orange juice, skim milk, and coffee!

So it seems toast/bagel/muffin with peanut butter (or other nut butter) and a banana is a common theme with responses so far. This is exactly the meal I ate prior to the first marathon I ran back in May. It worked for me then so I am guessing I should go get bagels now that I am all out of cake. And I usually run on an…

I am a big advocate of doing what works for you personally. Whether it be low carb/no carb, paleo, or just everything in moderation. There is no one size fits all diet or nutrition plan. What is good for one person can be detrimental to another. The key is to find what works for you based on not only clinical research, but…

I just disagree with your logic. You didn't compare raw fruit and vegetable nutrients with that of raw grains. You used a processed grain to make your point. I understand your bias, I just respectfully disagree. Grains aren't unnecessary. They provide key nutrients. Of course those key nutrients can be gotten from other…

Running in and of itself won't ruin your knees. Bad running form, wrong shoes, and not listening to your body will put you at greater risk of injury, though. For some it may not be worth the risk. But if it's something you want to do, then don't give up! You can do it, and you can do it injury free.

I just loooooooove yogurt!
-
You make an interesting point, although I respectfully disagree with you that grains are unnecessary. Overly processed, manufactured until nearly all valuable nutrients are gone, grains are unnecessary. But the same can be said about fruits and vegetables.

Man, I am so happy I am training for a December marathon this year. That means I am in the thick of my training during delicious fall treat season. Halloween and Thanksgiving will taste so wonderful after a couple 18 and 20 mile runs.

My advice is to not give up! And visit a new recruiting office or else ask to speak with another recruiter. Telling you to come back after you you've lost the weight is lazy of them, as well as unprofessional. Way back in 1999 I walked into the Army recruiting office weighing 204 lbs. Thanks to my dedicated recruiter, 6…

Eat more. Carbs help fuel your workouts. Eat them, they are good for you.
