Yes you can. I average 1500kcal a day. 1000kcal and 2000kcal on alternating days. I lost 20lbs in 2.5 months. My metabolism keeps going.

I am planning to do exactly what I am doing now, i.e. alternate day diet. I eat 1000kcal on day A and current TDEE on day B. When I reach my goal I am planning to eat 1200-1400kcal on day A and future TDEE on day B. TDEE is quite intuitive. And day A foods are limited to the ones I truly love - I already remember calories…

All very interesting! As I said I am nowhere near goal but it bothered me, I am glad I got this out of my chest. As I am on alternate day diet, I am hoping that this phenomenon will pass me by, though it makes sense to introduce TDEE slowly and to give time for metabolism to adjust.

Ah, found the name. The programme is called The weight of the nation.

Hmmm. I saw it on one of credible weight loss documentaries (forgot the name!). Sounded very, very unfair. I do hope it is not true.

I love your tummy tuck! (only joking :) ) you look great!
-
I am green with envy! Well done!
-
Awesome! I bet it will be too big quite soon :)

When after many years yo-yoing I finally had a lightbulb moment of inventing my own "diet" (way of eating), something that I feel I can sustain for life. 38 days in and 14lbs lost. Happy :)

Jaw-dropping, hot, awesome! You are all my inspiration with 70+ lbs to go. (though I must admit I still have a thing for big cuddly guys, regardless.. ;) )
-
Well done, a very good start! Just don't be too hard on yourself. If you are depriving yourself too much you may lose it one day. An odd treat does not do much harm.

Looking amazing! I am 5'7 have just started at 239. You are my inspiration!

I am soo looking forward to this! (still 80lbs to lose).

Great achievements everyone! I am not anywhere near yet to take my "during" pictures but hoping to be in that position in several months time.
-
You look absolutely stunning. I am at the beginning of the same journey from 219 to 135. Your story gives me an inspiration of how I will look like when i reach my goal. Thanks!

I understand what you mean. I am the same. I cannot keep up with repetetive food or avoiding going out for a meal because I cannot always know the calories. After lots of false starts and yo-yo'ing, I have now started 5:2 - 2 days fast per week and mindful eating on the remaining 5 days. I am yet to see the results but it…

I like simple, so: Cornmeal with maple syrup; Coffee with coconut oil; Cottage cheese with a bit of orange marmelade; Roast butternut squash with light cheese and a bit of freche craime.

I can also add to the bunch of people who say "Hello my name is ____ and I too have been there (yo-yoing back and forth). I know very well the feeling when you fell of the wagon and stop caring about weight. I have lost a stone about 10 times in the last 6 years and just gained it back every time. I don't know what HCG…

Ah? 1lbs per week is a very good weight loss! Ah? You should eat when you are hungry not when you are told to eat.

That picture with the egg will take me off eggs for several days, for sure... My must is cottage cheese (quark - normally fat free). I eat it every morning and I love, love, love it.

I too get that "never satisfied" feeling no matter how little or how many calories I eat. The only solution I have found so far is to have a fast day once in a while - 500kcal / day (the basis of 5:2 diet). I am not a fan of starving myself but I find it totally resets my hunger button, stops cravings, makes me to…

I have not read all the arguments post the original post, but 2 things spring into my mind: 1. If you dieted for a long time and ate consistenly low calories, your body may have gone into slow metabolism and just tries ot accumulate all fat while you eat more. I would try to up the calories (consistently) and would…

I am on my 2nd fasting day today (started following 5:2 way of life after years of unsuccesful calorie counting and yo-yoing). My NSV is realization that I won't actually die from skipping a meal and that I am in full control of my body. It is actually nice to have a break from food. Never had this liberating feeling with…

So glad that I found this thread. I am in the same boat. For some reason I thought that I am the only one who lost and gained the same 20lbs perhaps about 10 times during the last 6 years. For me it is all about sustainability of whatever new, healthier lifestyle I choose. I get a bit smarter as I get older (I am 35). I…

My husband is what you call “naturally thin”. His eating habits are very monotonous so let me tell you what he eats. Breakfast: 1 fried egg, 2 pieces of bacon, 1-2 slices of buttered bread and a banana. Lunch chicken wings or leftover from dinner. Dinner: rice and meat stew, or rice and fish stew. There is always a glass…

I am not pro or anti Coke but I noticed that while I enjoy the taste, it gives me massive anxiety - probably due to caffeine, as well as cravings for more and for other junk food or drinks - probably due to aspartame? So I try to avoid altogether (I also stopped drinking caff coffee) and find that I am much calmer, anxiety…

Cutting out artificial sweeteners, coffee and fizzy drinks has reduced my cravings and anxiety. I am a firm believer that artificial sweetness and caffeine confuses my brain.

This is awesome and hits my spot! I failed my weight loss journey so many times (even with MFP) as I get too obsessive with counting calories, eating the right foods, calculating my weight loss in kgs, lbs and percents etc. As you say it consumed me and I got burnt out. Taking it easy and natural – that’s the right spirit!
-
I do struggle to keep my motivation, but my own motivation tip would be – don’t overdue it! As soon as I fall into obsessing myself with diet, I run out of steam very quickly and fall of the track. I have to keep my way of eating on the back burner so it does not overtake my life. Find other things to do. Find hobbies.…
