  • Tr IF first. Start slow, ramp up if necessary. What is your deficit?
  • OP, you're very right! Sorry for your loss and @cstehansen too. That's really young and abrupt in both cases. The more I research T2D, the more it seems the pancreas is very vulnerable to hyperinsulinimia and visceral fat surrounding and inside the gland. IMO Dr. Roy Taylor is a pioneer in developing non-surgical clinical…
  • Hello ☺ I've eased into FD these two weeks and trending down. Think I've lost about 2 lbs in water weight from the holidays and all the birthdays, plus 2 lbs in addition on the scales = 4 lbs since 6th of January. I'm happy with that ! Let's hope I can keep going :) Still have some stubborn tummy to work on... Today's FD…
  • FYI: Male lions with a pride don't even hunt, lol. They prowl (and sometimes fight). Cause the females are doing all the hunting. HE takes first dip at the kill, though...and he chooses to eat organ meats. Presumably because organ meats have more nutrition :o The lean muscle tissue and bones are leftovers for the bottom…
  • Personally I don't like the term calories, because the body is a biochem furnace...not a stupid water heater. Meaning, how the body INTERPRETS the food is a much, much more complex process than the old CICO misleadingly wants us to believe. - Then there's the problem with the variance in online calculators for caloric…
  • I use lactose free dairy = less carbs cause no milk sugar ;) But quite seldom, maybe max twice a month, probably less. Good luck and tweak your diet according to your goals, but make sure you get enough Vit B12 :)
  • I looove IF. Actually spent most of my life skipping breakfast, cause the thought of food in the morning is nauseating to me. I love never being hungry anymore, being able to do fasted training, mental clarity and feeling wide awake. Under the hood, I think extending non-eating hours helps systemic insulin sensitivity and…
  • It's one of the BIG benefits of lowcarb...I'm vulnerable to hypoglycemia when high carb. I may wander on my macros here and there, but the lack of hangry is sooo valuable to me that I will stay lowcarb in some form for life. Isn't it wonderful? Congrats!
  • Why are you worrying over "lower blood urea nitrogen/better renal function" Do you have abnormal numbers? Re IGF-1. As you probably know, having more time of non-eating hours after post absorbative state is what lowers IGF-1 most effectively. But if you're not willing to go there, I totally get it. My colleagues look at me…
  • Hi there. My thoughts : I don't really like the term "fat fast, because those two words mean two opposite things. I'm also a bit hesitant in swallowing Asprey's argumentation. It has happened he interprets studies to support "his" protocols or products. I think autophagy or mitophagy happens at energy deficit. The blog…
  • I tried to do another FD today, but ended a bit higher than I wanted. Oh well. The deficit should be OK anyway, cause I'm not counting in all the physical activity at work... I think I'm gonna aim for FD on Mondays and maybe Tuesdays in the weeks forward. I wanna be able to have dinner with my BF when we meet. My…
  • "Eat, Stop, Eat" by Brad Pilon has the science but is understandable for laymen <3 This article sums up IF too: https://authoritynutrition.com/intermittent-fasting-guide/ I stacked protocols with success. BUT, I highly recommend to not force too many things at the same time. It's easy to get overwhelmed by too many rules…
  • From what I've gathered, I think exogenous ketones are best used as an add on for therapeutic purposes or neurological benefits. If bang for buck is important. Anglyn and nvmomketo nailed it above. Since ketones are a byproduct of fat oxidation, swallowing extra won't yield all the enzymes and mitochondria benefits the…
  • @Karen_can_do_this . Don't let perfect be the enemy of good ☺ Be happy you achieved a substantial deficit for the day. As long as the energy cycling with high and low days is big, you're doing good. Sometimes changing what you have on FD changes your perceived hunger. Experiment to find what works better for you☺
  • I'm sorry for your loss. Take time to allow the grieving. Pushing it away only worsens it. By dealing with your emotions now, you may one day find you have moved past it.
  • I've maintained scale weight for 2 weeks...which is good since there's been some birthdays to celebrate. I've restarted to 5:2 IF on top of scaling down carbs and 20:4 IF. Did a 1,5 hrs walk up river alone for the first time in many months and enjoyed it☺ Salt is my friend. Good luck everyone!
  • Welcome! I'm an oldie who is returning to this protocol. Lost 1 kg/week in 2014 on the 5:2 in combo with 16:8 daily IF and lowcarb. I suggest you read the info up top and find a system that works for YOU. There's no absolute rules, just guidelines. Good luck☺

  • I'm jealous Flumi, that looks just FANTASTIC :D Lucky you! Had first official FD back on 5:2. Ended up with: 1 carrot, 1 small avocado, some miso soup with seaweed (iodine is important for fat loss) and a naughty fist of pork rinds. Had 2 caps of MCT oil and some salt before walking 1.5 hrs up river. All in all a…
  • https://www.16personalities.com/entp-personality Debater entp-t ...I feel like X-rayed ...I'm sorry I probably often step on toes here too, in search for an ephemeral truth inside my head.
  • Fry veggies in strained bacon fat. Maybe he'll like them better
  • Just jaw dropping progress for you and hubby! Good job both of ya!
  • Dr. Perlmutter has clinical experience in this field and talks about it in his book "Grain Brain". The field of microbiome is an emerging one, hard to find blanket conclusions, I think...given the unique environment in every gut. But studies so far on germfree mice has shown that if you give a skinny mouse gut bacteria…
  • You're kinda derailing your own comment. Your argument wasn't about BG levels, it was about LBM. ...and that is another discussion☺ Btw could it be you're confusing LBM with muscle fiber? I think it's part of a bigger picture and this is pure speculation: The athletic community is a sucker for studies that show any…
  • I took a quick look at the study. http://m.jn.nutrition.org/content/144/6/876.full The study was funded by a beef interest organization. It doesn't say how much of the funding. The study authors are paid speakers for other beef industry organizations, FYI. The study itself was elegantly designed with a crossover and…
  • This is a YMMV. When I was actively losing fat I did have less than 120-ish gr net starch per day. BUT, I was also very physically active and did lots of IF protocols stacked on top. Exercise is an excellent glucose disposal method. IF makes it more likely that the fat you're burning is body fat rather than dietary fat.…
  • You know I love you man :) ...but I disagree with you on this issue. I suspect protein synthesis has more to do with training as stimulus and hormone signalling. I do agree amount of protein needed is a YMMV. I can eat loads of protein (in one sitting), but I've stopped the whey shakes and BCAA pills and haven't lost any…
  • I do OMAD for maybe 4-5 days per week. I started with 16:8 over 2 years ago and stretched out non-eating hours naturally until I realized one day that I didn't HAVE TO eat lunch either. It's not for everyone, but I love the freedom from sugar crashing and total lack of hunger <3 Plus it saves both time, focus and money o:)
  • I'm very based on this issue. So there's that. I have the utmost respect for Dr Phinney, but on this issue I find his arguments a bit peculiar He talks about "lean tissue loss" without specifically pointing out that the studies he refer to are a) very long term starvation studies. Not to mention using emotionally laden…
  • ...the onboard pantry phrase comes from Fung...I think :) Great share @RalfLott !
  • @cstehansen ty for your candid and insightful postings :) I can see you've really embraced the exploring mindset and leave no stone unturned in the quest to better your health! You're very inspiring in how you keep an OPEN mind to alternative theories regarding your health! I think you're quite right that stress is an…
