  • I've been riding for years and never had that issue. I'm assuming your seat height is set right. Are your handlebars to low or seat to handlebar distance to great. Sounds like to much pressure on your arms/shoulders and not enough on your seat.
  • I'm going to get some popcorn cooked. The replies on this one are going to be great and I've got a front row seat
  • Spin Cycling is my fav exercise. Yesterday I put a two a day in with a weight lifting routine for 1.5 hours during lunch then a Spin session last night for 1 hour. I peaked at a 182 bpm hr with an average hr of 173 for the session. I have been doing it for years and still can't get enough of it. Enjoy it, it does become…
  • Low carb = heart failure ? The Huffington Post as a source ? I better have my doctor reconsider her recommendations and full support of my carb cycling that I have been doing for 7 years and was taken off of statin drugs and blood pressure drugs since incorporating carb cycling. Thanks for letting me know though that I can…
  • I have Bontrager and love them. My shoes are a cyclocross type but work excellent. 99% of Spin Bikes are equipped with SPD clips. Go to your local bike shop and they will fit you with shoes. Tell them what the purpose of the shoes will be and they will set you up. Money wise, you should be able to get into some shoes for…
  • I have 2 different heart rate monitors (Garmin and Polar) and love them both. Once you program your age, weight, height, activity level, VO2 max, etc. they are really accurate. I rarely do cardio without wearing mine. Nice way to track calories and with the continuous output of your heart rate it will tell you if you need…
  • I think I feel my body digesting my eyes due to starvation mode.....never saw that one coming.
  • I'm not obese but an EXCELLENT machine for cardio is the upper body ergometer...arm bike. I think it is one of the best kept secrets in any gym. I rarely see anyone ever on it which is fine with me because I use the heck out of it. It is great for people that are wheelchair bound or may have leg issues due to injury or…
  • You got tons of great advice and I agree with all that has been written. You are young and your body will respond fast. Make sure you do dead lifts. It will jump start your program big time. Try to work your legs all 3 days and make sure it is free weight squats. Free weight bench press, rows, and shoulder press. Don't…
  • Love it that someone was brave enough to start this thread amongst a group of self proclaimed experts ! You hit it on the nail head and quite frankly out of the park. Love the replies on how it will eat the muscles first.....really. I believe the body will break down what it needs nutritionally first whether it is fat,…
  • I've done it for years (intermittent fasting) and love it. Who ever made the rule that you have to eat 3 meals a day I would like to meet that person and ask why. I just listen to my body and if I'm hungry I eat. If it is when I wake up I eat. The one meal I do not eat is lunch. They don't serve food at the gym I go to for…
  • Spend less time asking, more time exercising, and stop eating. Now just go do it.
  • Took a rest day today from my workouts. Probably will do the same tomorrow.
  • I posted earlier in the replies but thought I would add a couple of other things I do. First in my profile picture, that is a picture of the restaurant I go to each day for lunch, it is a gym. Another thing is I do not get wrapped up in eating. It is currently 3:30 pm and I haven't ate a single thing today. I do this all…
  • You need protein. I'm not bashing here but I have never understood the vegan/vegetarian concept. I know some people that are vegan and all of them are sick all the time and can't figure out why. Also the concept of tofu....a person almost needs a college degree on how to prepare it to make it fit to eat. I wish you luck,…
  • Dana, This site is not a magic bullet and you came to it basically saying I'm not going to do this. Can't post on a website and expect a miracle. Just like you can't go to a gym and sit on a bench and text for an hour and think "wow that was one heck of a workout". To me it sounds like you and your husband want to be the…
  • About a 10 second look in the mirror should be enough. That's what it took for me years back. Sure you don't need to exercise at all to lose weight. But without exercise, you will over time and age is no friend here develop bat wings. You know the floppy skin on your underarms that just hang there when you raise your arms.…
  • Instead of Slimfast, you may want to try other protein shakes. There are tons out there and I find they work quite well . Look for the ones that are low in carbs and high in protein. They do work and I myself is 53 years old and this weight loss/maintaining weight thing is quite easy with an appropriate high protein low…
  • 142 to 150 hr will definitely burn calories and if that works for you that ifs great. I'm 53 and I maintain 165 to 170 hr for an hour except on Saturdays then I go 3.5 hours at a 160 to 165 pace. I know what the book's say. I'm suppose to be at 150 hr. Too boring for me. I do all this doing HIIT and Spin. I do not jog. My…
  • An easy way to not worry about all the measuring and weighing is eat high protein low carbs and workout each and everyday. Been doing just that for 7 years and it is easy and it works.
  • Being a football player from way back and to this day still love the game, as a coach what is one of the fundamental principles you coach your team ? Self discipline. You need to look in the mirror and wonder how you team views you as a coach. Do you practice what you preach. Do you hold yourself to the same standard as…
  • Love protein powders. I don't really get wrapped up in the taste of them. They either taste ok or they suck. They serve a purpose and they are quick. I don't waste a lot of time eating any meal. There are a lot more fun things in life to do besides eating. When that mentality is achieved, keeping weight off becomes quite…
  • I have a daughter in the Navy and a daughter in the Marines. Find it hard to believe a recruiter will not work with you to get your BMI within the range of the military requirements. My advice is simple, eat high protein, low carbs and back a bit off on your weights and pick up on the cardio. Incorporate HIIT into your…
  • If you would like support please feel free to add me. I have 3 main motivators that keep me fit. My wife, my kids, and my grandkids. You already have one very important motivation and about to have a second one in 2016.
  • Too many calories and workouts have to be done like you are training for the Olympics. Check out HIIT. Since you have been working out for a year, you should be able to do this and you must go 110 percent during the high intensity portion off this training. Do this, and you won't need to worry about monitoring or weighing…
