Having my gastric bypass 22 months ago was the best decision i ever made in my life. My surgery was open and i have a scar about 8 inches down my abdomen. This isn't really a scar, i consider it the zipper holding the thin woman inside of me waiting to escape. I am approx 84lbs down weight wise and i am a new woman. I…

5 day pouch test, used for checking and possibly reminding us of our restriction. More of a test for bypassers than banders to be honest. The best part of the 5 day test is it reminds us what we should be aiming to eat food wise and gets rid of nasty carb habits...

I have a lot of friends who have had weight loss surgery and i think i am the only one amongst us who doesn't feel the cold when they do. Dont' get me wrong on a cold day i'm cold, but if the sun's shining my elbows are out enjoying the warmth x

I had a GB in June 2010 and within the first 5 months was 56lb down and then it stopped. I curse my RNY friend who told me the little bit of naughtiness i had was ok, because i then gave myself permission to eat the naughtiness a little bit more often. Also the mentality that 'little & often' was okay. I'm now about 84lb…

I know exactly how you feel. I had my surgery (RNY) June 2010 and recently i could eat for England. I find that if i eat pure protein, e.g chicken breast - steak something with substance i cant eat much, but you make me a double sandwich with meat and salad in and i can manage a yoghurt too. However give me meat/salad…

I have to say i have lost about 6 stone in the last 14 months (i did have some help with my gastric bypass but a 1/3 of it was me putting in the effort and counting calories)... Anyway before my surgery my son, aged 23 asked me ''but won't you have excess skin mom''... I had 2 responses for him, the first was 'nobody ever…

Thanks, i'm not actually on a plateau, its just that this is my first week of doing mfp properly, registered a long time ago and then thought it was too much faffing.... I'll see how my results are for the next few weeks and then worry if i'm not achieving. Thanks all

Thanks, i think it will end up as nuts. Because of my bypass i can't eat a great deal of 'dense' protein. Half a can of tuna a couple of bits of beetroot and i'm stuffed. Wish i could only manage a small amount of carbs like that, unfortunately my tum tolerates a 2 slice of bread sandwich with yoghurt after. Funny old…

I have to say, when i first started losing weight i had a 'lust folder' on my laptop! In this folder were various outfits that i'd seen online that i'd like to wear when thinner but wouldnt wear right then! I have actually never brought one of these outfits (6 stone down) but i have brought different clothes that i…

I love fruit and don't mind celery and cucumber to nibble on raw. But water is a no no for me, not unless it has no added sugar cordial in it. The thought of drinking water that didn't come inside coffee/tea or juice makes me want to throw up, bad experience as a child. As for 'soda', i am unable to drink carbonated…

I have to say i have no problem eating 1200 calories a day and i've had a gastric bypass.... Saying that i need to plan my diet better and go shopping! Some nice salads are in order to pack for work, and am definitely taking the boiled egg snack on board as they are so low in calories and i can nibble one whilst making a…

Thanks guys n gals... My routine is very set in stone, as written down by my gym trainer. Cardio is always the same as are the weights. Think i'll definitely be thinking less rest from the cardio and maybe just do the weights every other day :)

Sharifit i had a voracious appetite and could eat for England. 14 months post op my evening meal tonight was: 100g of chicken breast 100g of mashed potato A spoon of carrots A couple of spoons of cabbage & a bit of gravy I reckon there's about 25g of chicken left in the kitchen for me to eat later as i couldn't physically…

If going for fruit it tends to be bananas, apples or melon tbh! But i was finding i could gnaw my weight through 6 pieces a day quite easily.....

I have to say, i am a woman and it was both for me... First and most important was my fitness/health, which i have improved. Closely followed by appearance. After looking at a fat blob in reflections i had enough. I want to look in the window and like the woman looking back. 83lb down and i'm starting to like her :)

Without being argumentative, surely a lot of people who 'lose all the weight and go back to eating normally gain it back as well'? Not just bypassers. It's a lifestyle change for everyone, not just a diet here and there.....

Hi all, i had my open rny in June 2010 and have never looked back. I'm currently 85lb lower, i would have been more but little did i know it wasn't a miracle cure and the weight wouldn't just fall off. The last 25lb has been all my hard work in the gym and watching what i eat. I did weight watchers for 20 weeks but have…

Yes i had my gastric bypass surgery June 2010... Why you asking? Curiosity or contemplating?

Thanks Travis and everyone else for your valuable input. Travis i had a quick look at your blog and found it inspirational. Loved it so much i thought i'd start my own journey, more for me than anyone else. I hope i have some of the success you've had.

I personally think people still expect to see the 'fat' you and it's not got through to their brains (i use that term lightly) yet that your body shape has changed. If i were you i'd take your hubby down to the doctors with you for a check up. If it helps take a diary of a few days of what you eat generally. The doctor can…

Steve, it can be a long life if we worry over what everyone says. It's your body, it's your life and it's your choice. You certainly look of a respectable age where you know what you are doing and the only person you answer to is yourself. If you want a weekend off from dieting so you can have a treat then you do it, you…

My kids used to say i was 'curvy' which roughly translates to morbidly obese, they also call my 400lb friend curvy, in fact they call all my fat friends curvy, because they were raised 'if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all'. Now i've lost almost 6.5 stone they say i'm skinny, but the best bit was 'we…

I'm fairly new to MFP but did w/w and all sorts of diets over the last 20+ years. My advice would be this: Stick to your allowance now, do the exercise over the next couple of days, go out enjoy your meal and then do more exercise till weigh in. Hopefully you'll have a sts, but for what it's worth, i'm guessing its a…

Some people dress well to hide their weight. I think when i was morbidly obese i couldn't hide the fact, but i did dress to hide a lot of it (or so i thought). I think people who look at you and say that are people who don't see an overweight person, they just see you :) And that aint a bad person! I've lost 89lbs…

How lovely :) I am currently in the obese category after travelling down from morbidly obese, it won't take too much more of a loss for me to hit the spot you are sat in right now, but when i do i'll be well chuffed :) Congratulations to you, onwards and downwards :) x

I tend to average at 14lbs is a dress size for me, however this post goes to show us how all our bodies are so very different. Well done to all you losers x

You know what, i am hoping we are moving house at the weekend. But once that's done you are so on lol.... The fitness part is a big part for me too! I will/am slowly becoming a gym buddy :) See you at slimville xx
