Would this help motivate you to lose weight?

I was thinking of taking photos of girls I would like to look like and make them my wallpaper/screensaver (I don't have a screensaver currently to save energy) on my computer. I was also thinking of putting photos on my cellphone.

Good idea? Do you think it would work for you?

Thanks :)

I have posted picture of when I was thin on my mirror before. I think it's worth a try.

It only makes me angry and feel worse about myself to be honest. For some people it's motivating, so it may be worth a try.

I just look at skinnier, fitter people and feel crush that I'm not the same way. I'm learning to love myself for who I am!

It might motivate me to check out batting for the other team, but it probably wouldn't motivate me to exercise.

    But to each their own.

Do it. If you don't have a boyfriend or husband, be prepared to get like 100000000 billion guys all after you if they see sexy girl pictures on your computer or cell phone.
  • I have done this and it works for me. I have it on the wall next to my bed. I took several pictures from magazines that I like (Oxygen mainly) and used a glue stick to attach them to a poster board. I have it in my picture album on MFP :0)

I'm also more of a next size down in pants. I might think I still look the same in the mirror, but I put those smaller pants on, and they fit, best motivator to me.

I don't think it's wise to compare yourself to other women. I am constantly telling my teenage daughter this - she always want to compare her body to the girls she sees that she "wants to be like" ... they are the skinny, willowy type, and she has a much more athletic build. She could be dangerously underweight and never achieve that look she want, because her bone structure is different (broader rib cage, wider pelvic girdle, like her mom) and certainly couldn't with a healthy weight (which is where she is!). I agree with another idea put up here, that if you have pictures of yourself at a more desirable weight, you can put those up. It'll help you see your goal without setting yourself to something that may not be attainable, or at least healthy and attainable.
  • Didnt work for me but it may for you so I say try it. HOWEVER what did work for me and STILL does is a photo of myself bigger than what I am now. EVERYTIME I look at that photo I want to stop and go walk/run...anything BUT over eat!

i don't think this is necessarily healthy...mainly because you are comparing yourself to other women (i do know that it's hard not to though). if you do decide to do this, then maybe try to pick women with body types fairly close to yours...so the goal is actually somewhat reachable?

hope you find something that helps to motivate! i like the size down in jeans idea better.

Thank you, this is a good idea. >_< I don't know how i look thinner (I used to eat buckets of ice-cream and maintain my current weight so Im trying to get healthier for the first time ever), but will try and find people with a similar build! :)

I really mirror this feeling. I want to be so much better than I am, but seeing those who already achieved my goals makes me feel bad about myself for some reason.

I have a picture of myself on the bathroom mirror at my largest with letter stickers next to it that say "Never Again". It works as a constant reminder of what I allowed to happen to myself and reminds me that I never want to do that to myself again!

I think that is dangerous because you will not look like the person whose picture you post. Everyones body is different and it may just frustrate you if your hips dont fall into place like the person on the picture. Just a thought...

I use old pics of myself.

I have to say, when i first started losing weight i had a 'lust folder' on my laptop!

In this folder were various outfits that i'd seen online that i'd like to wear when thinner but wouldnt wear right then!

I have actually never brought one of these outfits (6 stone down) but i have brought different clothes that i wouldn't have worn at almost 300lbs...

Why not create a similar folder of all the things you would like to wear but don't now?

I used to put motivational pictures and sayings on the refrigerator and in the bathroom... and, most importantly, in front of the treadmill. It was awesome inspiration.. especially the ones in front of the treadmill, I would push myself that much harder and faster. The only downfall, is every time we had a dinner or gathering at our house I would have to take them down. I forgot one time and I got some weird questions and looks from the first people to arrive (thank God it was family.) I also had one on my cell phone for awhile.. until my hubby said "WTF is that?" .. I think he was just worrying about me and totally understood why I did it. I still deleted it tho, because I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. Moral of the story... It is motivational and if it works for you.. go for it!
