Is damage control allowed??

Hear me out....
I know I have a big dinner out coming up on Wednesday - Melting Pot (Fondue). Easily a 1,000 calorie meal (sadly for a small amount of food). So I'm attempting to plan ahead and still be able to enjoy myself. I know it'll be hard to resist when it's on front of me. I LOOOOOVE Melting Pot.
So my question is this...going back to my old weight watcher days when you were able to bank your exercise points to use them on another day....can I work out for the next 2 days and NOT eat those calories back and "bank" them for Wednesday when I know I'll be over my desired net for that day.
I don't make a habit of neting below 1200 a day but for the next 2 days I WOULD but I figure the high calories on Wednesday would fuel my metabolism back up again (in a big way). I'm hoping if I could maybe earn a total of 500 exercise calories beween today and tomorrow and save them for Wednesday - I'll offset the damage in time for saturday's weigh in...
Thoughts?

I did WW as well, What is your weigh in day? I feel that If you have a bigger meal in the week, but work out more than you normally would that week, in the end (as long as it is not too close to your wigh in day) it should all average out. That is one thought, now my doctor also told me that for every 500 calories you eat over the calories you need in a day, it equals one pound. I have actually found this to be fairly accurate. Big meals will happen, we can not avoid all of them. What I say? You may need to lose an extra pound on top of what you want to lose before Wed. that way when you gain or if you gain back a pound or so, you still end up with a loss for the week, if not finishing out with no loss but no gain is not bad either. Drink tons of water, half you body weight in ounces, if you do this it will also help get all the retained water off you before and after the meal and it makes you more full so that you won't overindulge too much, it is hard, I struggle with the same, but as lng as we don't completely lose control and eat less than we would have before, we are still changing and that is good.0

what you are about to read is my opinion, and always remember ~ Your mileage may vary.
I too amd a huge fan of Melting Pot. ~ Great choice for a special event !!
I'm a WW lifetime member, although currently not doing the weight watchers program. but I do remember the "Banking" of the points. It always worked for me.
however, I don't get too upset every time I get on the scales. If you maintain for a week ~ oh well.
You're in this for a lifetime change - Right? Over the course of time, when you do the right things, you will loose or maintain - Whatever your trying to accomplish.
Think about what your eating, Plan your event, and enjoy!
Just my thoughts,0 -
My weigh in day is Saturday. That's why I was sorta preparing in advance and then I have 2 days to overload on water to flush out the sodium and also a couple of days to get some good workouts in.
But it's true - all in all, even if I maintain one week (especially with a night out to the Melting Pot) then that in itself is an accomplishment. I'm sure I could still manage to lose staying on play the other 6 days of the week.
I LOVE that MFP has Melting Pot in their database. Not sure how accuate it is but it at least gives me SOME idea of what my intake would be for that day.0 -
I do this a lot. I have a 1500 cal/day alottment. During the week I try to eat about 1400 calories. If I exercise, I track it, but I only eat back the calories if I'm hungry for them. I keep track of the total calories consumed for the week vs calories alotted, and use the 'extra' calories for a special meal and/or my Sunday night Chinese dinner. It's like a less strict version of calorie cycling.0

This is a personal choice, but personally, I would say each day is its own day and should be treated as such. That being said, everyday should be the same, not decreased all week, because you know there is going to be a bad day coming up, especially if you are going to be under 1200 for several days, and even more especially if you are working out and under 1200 calories.
Maybe try to get a good workout in before the big meal, instead.0 -
I had melting pot yesterday, I just saved my 1000 calories for the meal!0

There is a whole method of calorie cycling where you do percisely this. I have definately done this and it has never been a problem. Your body does not shut a gate every 24 hours saying "THIS IS THE EFFECT" your body operates 24/7. Enjoy your special event and the planning you did to make it happen.
Sidenote: I also work out that day to earn extra calories.0 -

I'm more a fan of this approach...if you're going to have one bad day...just have it, don't try to deprive yourself all week long just to be bad another day. I usually just try to fit 'bad' meals into my daily amount so that I can get my fix and not feel bad that I went over.0 -

that's consistently 500 cals over, every day for a week though, isn't it?0 -

3500 surplus calories = 1 lb gain0 -
Your body is not on a 24 hour timer.0

you know, I am not quite sure. I use that as a guideline but I am sure it is not like that for everyone. For me, if I eat about 500 cals over, I gain about a pound but I think it is water weight from sodium because after I have a ton of water (and bathroom trips) I am only a matter of ounces in gain0

if you are weighing yourself just after eating its probably just the weight of the meal, its not that you have put on a pound. as killagb said a pound of body fat is about 3500 cals so if you cut your calorie intake by 500 cals a day you would lose a pound a week and like wise if you increase your intake by 500 you would gain a pound.0 -
Honestly, I'd just save the 1000 calories for that meal (that day)and call it good. You can save calories from other days if you want, but for me, it's just easier to keep it within the same 24 hour period.0

While I'm not personally a fan of the idea of banking calories (how exactly would your body know you're "saving" all those uneaten calories for another day and do we really think we can trick our bodies like that?), I'm here to comment more so on The Melting Pot nutrition info. If you just contact them in advance they'll send you a file that has all of the most up to date info for the location that you'll be dining at. When I contacted them when the hubby and I went back in January they even notified the wait staff who brought a copy to the table when we arrived and we actually got really special service all night with the manager checking in to make sure everything had been provided properly and letting us know that since they rotate their menu often we could always feel free to contact them and ask for updated info. They're on top of it with that stuff.0

I'm fairly new to MFP but did w/w and all sorts of diets over the last 20+ years.
My advice would be this: Stick to your allowance now, do the exercise over the next couple of days, go out enjoy your meal and then do more exercise till weigh in. Hopefully you'll have a sts, but for what it's worth, i'm guessing its a special occasion and as such shouldn't be worried about too much. Its part n parcel of life, damage limitation yes, stress no xx0
