Reading these posts make me feel really grateful that I live in So Cal. I am pretty close to the beach and I love early morning walks (like 5-6 a.m.). Believe it or not, it does get cold here at night, so I do have to layer up more for my morning walks in the winter. Other than that, I do yoga classes on Zoom, YouTube…

This is supposedly unproven and untrue.

I'm more concerned about my mental health. I live alone, but I am also a very social person, and I feel like not being able to socialize and connect will be super depressing.

I was working 10 hour days with a commute that was 60 minutes each way on a good day, but usually it was more like 90 minutes on average. By the time I got home, ate, settled in, I was beat, and it was practically bed time. It really affected my ability to squeeze in time for the gym, or time for myself period. Fortunately…

The only thing I can think of that's high fiber would be fruits and vegetables. Have you tried a fiber supplement like Metamucil etc? Of course clear that with your surgeon first.

Typically, I just try to wear the same type of clothes etc to the doctor every time, and at home I weigh myself naked. We might have different weights, but each are consistent, you know?

I have had a horrible time going through menopause. My gyno told me my periods would gradually stop. They stopped suddenly two years ago. My GP told me to be careful, that sometimes depression can occur during menopause. I said, that will NOT be me, but it was to a certain extent. The hot flashes, the fatigue, it was very…

Glad to hear this, I have been wanting to try them out!

I am a big fan of Cellucor, especially Cinnamon Swirl and Peanut Butter Marshmallow. Super tasty.

I agree with you, the amount of self work needed doesn't have enough emphasis during the pre-surgery process, and the absence of this can impair success and maintenance. No matter what method you choose to lose weight, there will be work involved. I also agree with you that the marketing of surgery doesn't address the…

It's really hard to explain to someone who doesn't get it. I have several posts in this thread explaining why I went the route of WLS, even emphasizing addressing the psychological aspects of it. The pre-surgery psych requirements are lacking if you ask me. I think it allows people to slide through the process without them…

WLS doesn't make you make ANY choices. You make your own choices, and you choose to deal with the consequences or not. Not all WLS patients have the same reactions to the same foods. That's why a lot of people gain weight back, sometimes calorie dense foods don't cause issues, and even with surgery, you can eat small…

If you have surgery, or if you don't, your environment will be the same, and you will still have to learn how to navigate around it.

I was fortunate that insurance paid for my surgery, and I am a total bargain shopper, but I would NEVER look for discount surgery, that is frightening!
-
I am saying this from experience, if you realize you need to address the emotional issues, start NOW. I had therapy, before surgery, during the process, and I still continue therapy to help me stay on track. Do not underestimate the importance of this.

This is pretty much what I do. On work days, I usually do a lot of the same foods, so it helps to pre-log as much as possible to get an idea of where I am calorie wise, and that helps me make better decisions for the meals that I don't pre-log.

I think it's really important to learn to distinguish the difference between real hunger and head hunger. Sounds like you are dealing with that a bit, I think a lot of us have had to learn that, and you are not alone. If you think its out of boredom, when you feel that head hunger coming on, have a plan to dodge it -…

I am six years out, and I didn't/don't have any food concerns to speak of, BUT... the first time I ate something too salty, and still sometimes now if I eat something that has a high concentration of salt, I will get sick to my stomach and feel like I am going to throw up. I am like that if I eat a fatty piece of meat…

This. That's why I said in my previous post, WLS is a tool. I have been fortunate that I recovered well, I didn't suffer the hair loss, and I don't have too many food issues. The food issues I have are likely more related to the fact that I don't have a gall bladder. It still takes a lot of work, but being 400 lbs wasn't…

This. I was just shy of 400 lbs and I woke up one day and thought, this isn't normal, and I found myself a good therapist to really work on what got me to where I was. Once I felt like I had made progress with the mental part of my weight issues, I made the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery, with the help of my…

I'm with you on that too! The Kirkland bars remind me of how the Quest bars tasted before they changed sweeteners in their recipe. To me Quest bars just don't taste the same, and I used to LOVE them!

I had these when I visited London. The only place I found them in the US was on Amazon but they were super expensive -

This - I have found that most people don't want help or advice, they want you to tell them what they want to hear, not what they might need to know.

I took the omeprazole as directed by my surgeon for a few months after surgery, then stopped. I am almost 6 years post VSG and I have occasional heartburn, depending on what I have eaten. It really hasn't been a serious issue though.

To me the Kirkland protein bars have a similar taste to the Quest bars, but I actually like them better. Quest changed their recipe at one point a few years back and started using soluble corn fiber, and to me, the taste was never the same. I like the Pure Protein but some of them are a little too sweet for me.

Trader Joe's has chocolate hummus - 50 calories for 2TB. I dip apples in it. So good.

I am team Kirkland, I find most protein bars to be way too sweet, but not these.

I have to try this ASAP, this past week I have been invaded with those little suckers. I had a house guest who left a bottle of Braggs at my house, now I know what to do with it!
