Four Year Surgiversary
I cannot believe it was four years ago today I had my surgery. Even with the struggles I had with some regain, which I have been able to get under control, it was the best decision I have made for my health and quality of life and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

What a difference a couple of years makes...
This is me with one of my BFFs, Dale. (We are both named Dale :) ) The second one was taken over the weekend.

Three Years!
I can hardly believe it's my three year surgiversary! I am so happy I made the decision to have VSG. My health and my quality of life are so much better now, sometimes it seems surreal, because I never imagined I would be where I am now. I am so grateful every day that I wake up and I can breathe and move and feel good. I…

Finding your "style" after losing a lot of weight
When I started this whole process, I weighed 386 lbs. My objective when shopping was to find something that fit, and things that would match. I never even considered style, mainly just function, and lets face it, the bigger you get, the less stylish the clothes are. Granted, the plus size clothing industry is trying, but…

Bouncing back after a case of the F- its.
Last year I had a serious case of the F-its. I think we have all experienced that on some level. I feel that it's important to share this because in this group, we need to see honesty and reality, all of it, the good and the less than good. I was working at a job I wasn't thrilled with, I had 3 hours of commuting a day and…

Two Year Surgiversary!!!
Wow, it's two years ago today that I had surgery. I had no idea how much I would change and in so many ways - physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. It's been an amazing journey and I feel so blessed to have good health and happiness as a regular part of my life now. It's still surreal sometimes. I feel like I…

Health perks at my new job!
I was offered a job today, which I accepted! My commute will be cut back from an hour and a half each way to 20 minutes, which will give me more time to work out (like I was able to before this job!), but I also found out that they bring in a yoga instructor twice a week, they pay towards gym memberships and Fitbits, and…

Keto/Low Carb Recipe
I posted this in another group too, so you might be seeing this twice :-) I was browsing Pinterest for low carb/keto-friendly recipes, and I came across this recipe for Pork Rind Tortillas theprimitivepalate.com/2015/02/08/pork-rind-tortillas/. Normally, about 50% of the recipes I make from Pinterest should end up on on of…

Different Treatment?
I know this has been brought up before, but this topic always intrigues me. How have you been treated differently since you have lost weight? For me - * People look me in the eye when they talk to me. * Strangers smile and say hello. * Men hit on me. * I get treated better in stores when I go shopping. * I get treated…

Normally, about 50% of the recipes I make from Pinterest should end up on on of those "Pinterest Fail" blogs, but with a few tweaks, these turned out…

Thanksgiving Strategies?
Anyone have any good strategies for getting through the most foodiest time of the year? I am joining friends for the holiday, and fortunately I know what they are serving, so I am able to plan how, what and when I will eat. I plan to treat dinner as any other meal, protein first etc., and all of my other meals will be…

Having my Cake?
Tomorrow is my bday, and my coworker came back from lunch with a little cake for me. It was super sweet of her, but she knows that I watch what I eat, so while I get it, I also don't get it. I had been indulging in too much sugar, and in the past two weeks I had broken myself of the habit. I decided instead of the cake…

Quest Bars
Quest has changed their ingredients and now they are using soluble corn fiber in their bars. I can really taste the difference, and the new ones taste gross. So if you are like me and don't like the new Quest bars, if you look closely you can still find some of the older boxes (which are still good till next…

GNC Membership
I went to GNC on my lunch hour, and they are having a promotion where you can buy a two year membership for just $10, which is a really great deal (especially the way I buy protein bars and powder!)

NSV
I went to Costco yesterday, and I had to replace my card because it was demagnetized and wouldn't work at the gas pumps. I gave my card to the woman in customer service, and she looked at it, gave me kind of a side glance, and said, "Um.. is this you?". I said yes, and she said "OMG I can't believe it, you lost so much…

Dining Out
Went to dinner with friends over the weekend. I had no idea it was going to be one of those 11 course "tasting" menus until I got there. I was a little nervous because I just didn't know how I was going to deal with all that food, and also not knowing what was going to be served. Fortunately, the courses were tiny and…

Regrouping
I saw my surgeon Friday, for the first time in almost a year. I've gone up about 9 pounds. (I refuse to change it on my profile because I am going to change this.) He attributed it to several things - I have gained muscle; I am starting to go through the change (yay) and I my cycle is insane. My gyno has me on progesterone…

The fun things about losing weight
Having surgery, measuring food, keeping track of fluid, protein, etc. can all be pretty challenging, not to mention hard work, but there are some awesome and fun things about losing weight. Right now I need a little positive reinforcement and I know a lot of other people do too, so I thought we could all share some of the…

Sagging Face Post-Surgery :-(
After losing over 200 lbs, my face was much thinner and definitely saggier, especially around the mouth/jowl area, or what are also sometimes called the marionette lines. Besides the weight loss, being over 50 contributed to the sag factor I am sure! So, I decided to get Juvaderm injections. I didn't want to get a…

Arctic Zero
Has anyone tried this? It's a type of frozen dessert, some of the varieties has 35 calories per serving, or 150 calories for the entire pint, which is 4 half-cup servings (which I could not finish these days, but back in the day, I would have wrecked it). It also has protein, I think about 3 grams per serving, or 12 per…

NSV of sorts...
I have been working for my current employer for a couple of months. The industry I work in tends to be a small world, with people going from one company to another as projects come up, so people tend to cross paths over the years. Today I saw two guys that I worked with a few years ago. One of them I had also worked with…

Dealing with real life after surgery - brace yourself for some rambling :-)
I have been M.I.A. from here lately. I went on vacation about 4 weeks ago then hit the ground running when I got back and started a new job. My old job was an easy 20 minute commute. My new job is about an hour each way on a good day. Some days maybe an hour and 20 minutes. So, basically I have two hours a day less to…

I ate all of the food in NYC
OK not really... but it feels like I did! I just got back from NY last night. I spent time with my family - these are people who need to have a feeding every two hours or so, and they are all foodies. This was the first vacation I took where I ate things that I normally don't eat, and it was definitely a learning…

Recipe
I found this recipe for Protein Peanut Butter Cups on Pinterest. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks perfectly suitable for WLS patients. If any of you have tried it, let me know how it is! http://www.aleshahaley.com/2013/09/12/protein-peanut-butter-cups-clean-eating/
