A ::little:: rant because I am a ball of stress :-)
The past few weeks have been on my nerves. I am in danger of losing my job - I work in the oil industry and the drop in oil is nice at the gas station but our clients don't spend on projects for us to do. I had a job interview last week, on Monday I was told by the recruiter I didn't get it, then the next day they called…

When and how do you tell new people that you meet?
When you meet people, do you tell them that you had surgery? And how do you tell them? Do you tell people selectively? I am just curious. I recently started dating someone new and I had to think about what to tell him about my surgery, so for me the best choice was just to tell him. He actually thinks it's great that I…

Denied for Skin Surgery
I just found out that my insurance company denied me for skin removal surgery. The plastic surgeon's office said that it's about 50-50 when it comes to approvals for that surgery, but they said that appeals usually turn over the denial, so now I will start the appeal process. Just another part of this process! I will keep…

NSV
I was at the swap meet the other day with my friends, and I was looking at some T-shirts. The guy walked over to me and said, "these are plus sizes, the regular sizes are over there". It was pretty cool! Totally opposite of the feeling I used to have when I was first able to shop for regular sizes, that someone will come…

My Consultation with the Plastic Surgeon
Last week I had a consultation with the plastic surgeon. I want to have skin removal on my stomach, tummy tuck, arms, breasts, and thighs done. He wanted to focus on what he thought would make the biggest difference and what would be partially covered by insurance, which is the stomach. He wants to do a panniculectomy…

Going to see the plastic surgeon next week!
I decided to make an appointment to have a consultation next week. I am 15 months out from surgery, two years out from the start of my journey, and I am down 208 lbs, so I thought it would be a good time. The scale isn't moving for me so much, so I feel like this is where my body is settling, even though I would like to…

Two years later...
Two years ago yesterday, January 11, my life changed. That was my first consultation with my surgeon's office, and from that very day I made changes to make my life better. I immediately started following everything my surgeon and his team told me to do, starting with logging everything on MFP and starting to exercise.…

Since we can easily post pictures now... before and after!
I am actually down a little bit from the "after" picture, but this gives you an idea of how it looks to lose a couple hundred pounds.

Quest Protein Powder
Has anyone tried this yet? I am thinking about trying the peanut butter flavor.

How we see ourselves
Last night I was looking at myself in the mirror, and I was seeing myself how I used to be, 208 lbs heavier. I know that probably sounds crazy. Some days when I look in the mirror I think, "Damn girl, you look GOOD" and other days it's like, UGH! I tell myself after I have the surgery to take care of the excess skin I will…

Another "Before and After" picture...
The first one is from a wedding I went to about two years ago and the second picture is from a wedding I went to over the weekend.

Difficulties/Realities
First of all, I want to thank Thaeda for being so open about her journey, the good, the bad, and everything in between, because it has helped me realize how helpful and meaningful it can be to share our experiences here. Having WLS isn't just about losing weight. Yes, that's the ultimate goal, but the path to getting to…

Vacation
I am happy to say that I was able to stick with my usual foods while on vacation, and I didn't stray once! The only thing that surprised me was the airline food. Since I had to fly for 22 hours each way, I knew I would be getting fed several times, so I requested special meals, the diabetic option. I figured it would be…

One Year Later...
My official "surgiversary" is next week, but I had my one year follow up with my surgeon today, and it went great! He is thrilled with my progress, and my lab work came back great. He wants me to try to lose another 30 lbs, but because my BMI was so high to start with (67!!!), he said my body might fight me on it, but I am…

My Frist Stall!
I have hit my first stall in almost 11 months since surgery. I know a lot of people stall as early on as a few weeks and I shouldn't be complaining, but it's a little frustrating. Any advice as to how to break it or get through it? I have thought of upping my calories a bit. I usually have about 900 calories a day. I am…

Jerks at Work Part 2
How is it possible that after losing nearly 200 lbs, someone here in my office had the nerve to comment on what I was eating and told me it was going to put the pounds on me? Are you kidding me?
-
Milestone!
I weighed myself this morning - I weigh 191 lbs. I started off at 382, so I am officially half the woman I used to be  (Although my boss says I am twice the woman I was!)

NSV
I have been really sick with a horrible cold for the past 4 days or so. My friend said I should take a nice hot bath. I realized I haven't done that in YEARS because honestly, I couldn't fit in my bathtub! So, I took a bath, I actually fit in my bathtub (YAY!), and when I got up, I didn't make that human plunger sound and…

Recipe
I got this recipe from Bodybuilding.com. It looks like a good fit for people who have had WLS! I am sure you could substitute different brands or flavors of protein powder. Rocky Road Protein Truffles Ingredients 1 scoop Optimum Nutrition Rocky Road Gold Standard whey 2 tbsp Coconut flour 1 tbsp Cocoa powder 3 tbsp…

It's the hair...?
The other day I posted a picture on FaceBook of me with a couple of girlfriends. An acquaintance I haven't seen or spoken to in a while messaged me and said, "Dale, you look really different for some reason. I can't tell what it is.. new hair?" I said, "Could be the hair, could be the absence of 184 lbs of fat and misery"…

Comments about weight loss
Recently, a couple of my friends asked me how much more weight I wanted to lose. I told them 50 more lbs, to get to my goal weight of 150. They said, "you don't need to lose that much", "you will look TOO skinny", "you look good now", etc. I just said, that's my goal weight, but my main goal is to be healthy and I won't…

Coffee question
Those of you who are post-surgery and are drinking coffee again, do you count coffee towards your fluid intake for the day? I am just curious. I don't count coffee towards my fluid intake, just water or other non-caffeinated beverages.

Sort of NSV?
I ran into my ex husband at CVS. I haven't seen him since before I lost any weight. His jaw literally dropped and he was totally checking me out, looking me up and down lol! I am so glad I had good hair and I was dressed cute lol!

Before and After
Posted these in another group but I thought I would share here. I started out at 382 and now I am at 211, aiming to get to 150. I lost 70 lbs before my surgery in October and 101 lbs since. It's a bit surreal to me sometimes, but I am so much happier now, I have my health and my quality of life back!

NSV
I went to the movies over the weekend. I hadn't been in ages. Last time I went, I still had to lift up the armrest so that I wasn't all wedged in the seat. This time - I actually fit comfortably in the seat! I looked at my friend and said, Hey, look! I fit! It was a pretty good feeling!!!

Recipe Substitutions
I saw a recipe for mini meat loaves online, which would really fit into the high-protein and smaller quantity eating we all need to do, but the recipe called for flour. I am not at the point where I want to add carbs back into my diet, so I was thinking of trying Trader Joe's Almond Meal in place of the flour, which is…

6 Months Today!
I just realized, it's been 6 months since I had my surgery! Life has gotten so much better in so many ways! I am so glad I made this decision!

Giving support to others who have had surgery?
This group has been awesome for me, I have learned so much from people who have been there and done that, and I think we all have a lot in common! I try to be supportive of people in this group, and people who have had surgery and added me as a friend here on MFP, however... (there is always "however" lol), sometimes I…
