  • Hello -- I'm a seamstress and let me tell you, we fix so many bridesmaid's dresses that don't fit. There are a lot of different variables that go into fitting a dress. Most dress shops only take your bust, waist, and hip measurement, then go with the largest measurement. If you are slightly endowed and have slightly narrow…
  • Hi Kash: There are three main macros that you should track: carbs, protein, and fat. MFP allow you to track up to five different nutrients and vitamins, and you can decide which five you want to track. Since sugar is a carb, many people track carbs and change the sugar setting to something else, like fiber. I for instance…

  • I eat so much yogurt; I want to make my own. Can you point me to a good recipe? Thanks!
  • I think the most unhelpful advice ever given to me by an expert was "don't eat food right before bed." If I don't eat a snack right before I go to bed, I can wake up in the middle of the night with hunger pangs. If my snack is high sugar, high fat, I am not hungry in the least when I wake up in the morning, which is nice…
  • I enjoy watching The Soup's weekly review of "Finding Bigfoot." Joel McHale's indignation when Animal Planet sent the crew of "Finding Bigfoot" to Thailand was hilarious. I am also amused that the stars of "Finding Bigfoot" know what kinds of food Bigfoot loves to eat. Bigfoot apparently loves the same kinds of foods that…
  • Hi OP: Here's my experience with sugar. About 10 years ago, I stopped eating dessert foods -- both sugar and sugar free -- because I couldn't stop eating them. I only ate foods that had sugar listed as the 4th or fewer ingredient. Once I made the decision to give dessert foods up, it was fantastic. In addition to losing a…

  • OP, can you give some more information about what you are looking for? Your thread is called "sugar" but your question seems to be about fat.

  • To lose 1 kg a week, you need to eat 7700 calories fewer a week than you are currently eating. That's 1100 fewer calories a day. Then you need to let your body do what it wants to do, and keep persevering.

  • I can't eat Greek yogurt -- it dries my mouth out. Does anyone else have that problem? I eat full-fat Dannon plain yogurt, but I mix it with granola and let it sit for a while. The granola sweetens it up nicely.
  • All words carry two meanings -- the denotative meaning and the connotative meaning -- that are culturally assigned when we learn them. It's not like we exist in a lexical vacuum where the denotative meaning is shared but the connotative meaning is a personal choice. It's our response to those words that we have control…
  • The comments are both truthful and negative. People are telling the truth, but they tell it in an aggressive, hostile way. It's difficult for people who are unprepared for the hostility to not respond with hostility, which turns the conversation into a pissing contest rather than a thoughtful discussion about the issue.…
  • This post is a perfect example of what is most bothersome to me about a lot of responses on these forums. "*kitten*", "I don't care", "I'm going to call them on it", "you'd do better if you spent more time", "worrying about your or others' feelings" This is what those words convey: anger, lack of empathy, superiority,…
  • Holy cow a sugar thread that didn't explode. Congratulations to you, OP. You have achieved the MFP equivalent of a unicorn.

  • You need to open your diary so we can see what your intake is. Also, what is your height? I've been at a plateau of sorts since Christmas. I've been up and down the same three pounds, but I've also been eating a lot of different foods than I normally do. I could be miscounting, there could be more sodium than I realize,…
  • Understanding how calories work is the first step towards developing a relationship towards food that allows you to eat all types of food without feeling guilty or bad. Here's a link to an awesome post: Calorie Counting 101. Here's a link to another awesome post: A Guide To Get You Started on Your Path to Sexypants Once…
  • Good for you. I eat more or less on a schedule, so while I get that "I should eat" feeling, I rarely feel truly hungry. If I feel peckish between meals, I drink water. It usually turns out that I was just thirsty after all.
  • Yes, you are absolutely right. I get to decide what to eat and what not to eat. However, you are skipping a step -- the URGE to binge. I don't get to decide when the urge pops up. My way: I don't eat my binge foods; I don't have to exercise self-control because there's nothing to control; I experience the urge to binge a…
  • Your point appears to be that people should both eat their binge foods and avoid their binge foods. That makes no sense at all
  • Did you even read my post?
  • People come to food with all kinds of baggage. It's great that you don't have food issues, but you can't apply your experience to everyone. It's simply not realistic. I, for instance, stopped eating dessert foods 10 years ago. My husband loves dessert food and brings it home all the time. For the most part, I don't think…
  • Four hours later is pretty good! I eat every four hours. Otherwise I'm hungry and grumpy. Thanks for posting this thread -- I'm getting some good ideas for breakfast.
  • <insert animated clappping hands gif here -- I don't know how to make animated gifs go.> Throw or give food away if you don't want it. We live in a first world country and we only have one life. Here's how I handle doughnuts: I eat a bag of vegetables while reading an MFP thread about doughnuts. If you are…
  • It's a fad diet. Most people on here find weight loss success through eating everything in moderation. Count calories and you will lose weight. Some people have eliminated refined sugar and / or grains for medical reasons or because of eating disorders. Sugar -- specifically the demonization of sugar - is a very touchy…
  • I just ate my way through two days. I was super hungry, I wanted to eat, and so I just ate everything I wanted to. If I didn't log it, I would just feel fat and sad. Because I did log it, I can see that although I stuffed myself, I was only 1500 calories over for two days. That's 1500 calories over my "losing weight"…
  • Sorry -- I read "muscle" instead of mass.

  • I just ate my way through two days. I logged everything and am only 1,500 calories over my "lose weight" intake and only 500 calories over my "maintain weight" intake. I'll burn those 500 calories in the next couple of weeks just by being under by 50 calories for 10 days. Counting calories has really freed me from fearing…
  • 100% body mass - 18% body fat = 82% lean mass. Edited to change "muscle" to "mass" b/c READING COMPREHENSION.

  • "The only study to test the idea in people was done in Japan. In the study, 175 obese but healthy people took either vinegar or water daily for 12 weeks. Their diets were similar. They kept food journals. At the end of the study, those who used vinegar had lost slightly more weight. On average, the vinegar group lost 1-2…
