  • Thanks all. Could have sworn I'd already replied to this thread! Oh well. Yeh, I won't worry so long as I'm feeling good and not low on energy, etc. Maybe I'm just a naturally low carb person, since I know the kind of foods I want and carbs don't seem to appeal to me all that much. Lots more veggies and beans are great…
  • Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds as though you might be quite self-critical. If you're worried others will look at you badly for doing something wrong that's also something in your own thinking, telling you that somehow you should just know what to do at the gym without getting some guidance. If so, try to let go of…
  • So, emotional well-being and feeling like you have something valuable to fight for and look forward to as inspiration are lacking right now. Moving and changing job are stressful. That's going to get you down. Something you might benefit from is going to fitness classes of any kind, so there are others around you trying to…
  • I don't know if it counts as a mantra, but when I'm struggling and feeling like I'm weak willed I say to myself, "Grow stronger. Be well." I say it over and over as encouragement to keep at it and a kind of self-hug.
  • If I didn't have a cheat day once every so often I'd find the going that much tougher and might well end up feeling miserable from being too restrictive. That isn't going to help me, especially sticking to good eating and exercise habits long term.
  • Who's awesome? You're awesome.
  • I am literally in awe of your steadfast approach to such a challenge. Inspiration to all!
  • Try taking resveratrol for a couple of months. See if that helps. Its been shown to help get fat burning underway when hitting a plateau. No guarantees but its worth a trial run.
  • Do you mean the app itself makes things worse, or people's feedback?
  • I find audiobooks and podcasts are great for long walks, shopping and housework. None of that stuff ever has to be boring if I've got something to listen to. However, I love and almost need music to make (indoor) work outs fun. Audiobooks don't give me that enthusiasm boost and rhythm to keep me going that music can.
  • Just makes it funnier.
  • Yes! Love doing that. Also good mixed with a bit of mayonnaise on whatever you put mayonnaise on.
  • There are ways to increase willpower, if that's something you want. Lots of articles about it online and a great book by Kelly Mcgonigal called The Willpower Instinct. Good luck getting in shape!
  • Saw first three episodes back to back last night. First thing that stood out was the great production values. Other than that felt nothing was exceptional while at the same time everything was decent enough to keep me wanting more. I hope it gets renewed.
  • The gym I used to go to back in England was in a castle with an amazing view and had a sauna, steam room, hot tub and large pool I could use after working out. There was almost never anyone else there so me, my girlfriend and any friends we brought along had it all to ourselves most of the time. After the luxury of that…
  • In case you don't know, its best to wet the fabric that touches your skin immediately under the HRM. If you do that and it still looses the beat you might have a defective device. Polar might replace it for you if the warranty is still active.
  • Poutine week. Well, since its poutine week, I guess we HAVE to eat it. Dat gallery tho.
  • Great thread! Any geeky people add me as a friend because I'm such a geek! :pensive: Seriously, yes! Constantine is a really good series! There are a lot of Buffy/Supernatural wannabes nowadays and I like them all but Constantine is on top right now (IMO) while being an amazing comic book adaption in its own right. One…
  • Oats are amazing. Always found them a great start, when I've been eating them. Your recipe looks real good, too. That apple sauce you mentioned, is it thick, i.e. heavy with pectin? For some reason pectin does me a lot of favors. Or, apples in their natural form are very good, whereas clear apple juice isn't. I can't be…
  • It almost certainly is, if you go by the science and not the marketing hype. Too little is known about coconut oil's real impact on health and the potential long term risks may be high due to its unusual qualities. Fresh, young olive oil, on the other hand, has been studied a great deal and we know for sure it is…
  • I felt mentally and physically unfit most of the time and got fed up with it. Deciding to lose weight was just part of that.
  • I've noticed that fresh vegetables, especially including leafy greens, with quinoa seems to be the best food help for my mood overall. However, for me nothing beats regular exercise and meditation (once a day).
  • Vancouver guy here. All welcome to add.
  • I hate really nasty trolls. I just can't deal with them, not because of what they say but because their intention to hurt me or others just totally ruins a game for me. If I didn't love highly competitive games it wouldn't be an issue. What I tend towards nowadays is playing with people I know personally or have past good…
  • Oh wow this is something I do, too. I know I shouldn't read YouTube comments or comments on articles I find important but...I find myself scrolling down and immediately regretting it. It makes me feel the world is full of ignorant, vicious and psychotic people. It is, of course, but I want to believe differently.
  • I feel I drink too much. About half a bottle of wine to a whole one every other day. It undermines my productivity, mood and willpower. Its not much of a hit to be honest but I'm so busy that I notice it and that's enough to become annoyed by it. One difficulty is that people around me drink a lot, especially my wife. I…
  • In terms of value for money a pull-up bar has to be the best piece of gym equipment I've ever bought. I have the perfect pull-up bar. Love what it's doing for me.
  • Quinoa makes me feel good, as in actively boosts my sense of wellbeing. I usually cook it in chicken broth with olive oil, garlic, onion, ginger, various seeds (pumpkin, sesame, chia, hemp, sunflower), mild curry spices, bit of lemon juice and maybe some mushrooms or peppers. Great accompaniment to chicken.
  • I didn't track at all and was eating a lot of rich food and drinking a lot. Weirdly I stayed the same weight over that period, even lost a tiny bit. Thinking severe hangovers, partying hard and cold bugs might burn calories? Mysterious.
  • If you're insane then so am I! I hate playing characters as evil. I tried doing that in Skyrim for a while but it was making me feel so bad for my victims. Decided my character was going to have a crisis after a companion died. He turned all righteous. :)
