  • Tracey, I'm so happy for you! It sounds like you're well on the way in your journey to better health. I'm sorry to hear about all your trials and tribulations. I didn't realize things were so bad in Nevada after the housing boom they had had for awhile. It sounds like you have a wonderful man in your life who supports and…
  • Right now I'm on Curves protein shakes, they have chocolate and vanilla. I make it with 1% milk because I detest skim. I add a dash of Almond extract and cinnamon to the vanilla, and a couple of drops of Mint extract if I'm having the chocolate! I have one for breakfast every day and it really helps get my day started…
  • Much as I hate the mornings, I find it best when I force myself to get up and work out in the morning before work. I have such a stressful job that I might not get out of the office until after 7 some nights, and that's just too darned late. Then I'm not stressing all day wondering if I'm going to fit in my workout, plus…
  • I've never worn any of the Vibrams, but I find it curious that doctors seem to hate them. Say you can't do anything without the "proper support and protection" for your feet. How did prehistoric human beings cope with the world, then??
  • I cannot relate but I know those things are HEAVY. I remind myself of that when I can't wear sexy tops for failure to fill them out. Way to go on losing naturally. A friend of mine had a breast reduction some years ago and her scarring was HORRENDOUS. I honestly thought she looked better before the surgery than after, but…
  • I agree! And MFP is not blocked at my work like FB is, so I get to look at it while I'm at lunch!
  • Keep in mind that it takes at least four weeks for a new behavior to even start to become a habit! You didn't gain weight all at once, and you won't lose it all at once either. Making tweaks in your lifestyle will take time, but measured against the rest of your life, and the improved quality you'll enjoy, it's nothing!
  • I suspect the rate at which you lose might have something to do with it. Many gastric bypass patients I have seen who dropped loads of weight very fast always looked quite saggy and old. I'm talking loss of like 100 pounds in just a few months.
  • Have any of you ever heard or practiced dry skin-brushing techniques? Consistent use of skin brushing helps thicken and tone the skin. I'm sure it won't help skin that has already been stretched too much, but as you embark on your weight loss journey it can keep your skin from getting AS loose. It also helps stimulates…
  • You'll go crazy if you weigh yourself like that all the time. As you noticed, there are ups and downs throughout the day. Pick a time once a week to do it. In the morning when you get up, undressed, after going to the bathroom works best for me.
  • That's friggin' awesome!
  • They had my calorie goal set too high (computer programs not being people, it's just an estimate) and I did not start consistently losing until I tweaked my calorie goal down to 1200 a day. If I feel like eating my extra earned calories, I will - if not, I don't. It hasn't impacted me that I can tell, other than I almost…
  • My sister had hers done a number of years ago (went from an A cup to C cup) and she was in terrible pain and bound up in compression bandages for a little while. You won't WANT to be doing anything for the first two weeks, from the sound of it. Just enjoy being able to do this for yourself and ease back into things when…
  • I've always heard that insufficient intake of carbs causes this phenomenon. I do not work out as hard as you do, but in my own experience, a small handful of almonds and an 8 oz bottle of low-fat chocolate milk or perhaps an apple before I commence exercising really helps me. Insufficient hydration probably also has…

  • Awesome job! I try to remember that the scale should not be the Oracle by which I live, but it's hard sometimes. Loose clothes don't lie, though!
  • I think the calorie expenditure required to warm up the ice water is insignificant. Drink it however you prefer it in order to ensure that you ARE drinking an adequate amount. I'm saying this to myself as well - I prefer flavored water to be room temp and plain water to be icy cold. But I don't drink enough of either!
  • I looked that up on here and found a blurb about it, sorry I don't have the link. I believe it said that Fitness Pal builds in a little bit of a calorie deficit in your daily goal. It is designed for you to eat back your exercise calories. Personally, I try not to eat them ALL but usually eat some of them. Depending upon…
  • Wow, I didn't realize you could change the settings on the thing.
  • I just had to come and see who could be attached to that username! Feel free to friend me as well.
  • I absolutely have NEVER been a morning person, and I just don't see how it can be done. On the days that I MUST work out in the early morning due to my work hours conflicting with when my local Curves is open, I'm just sleep-walking through the circuit, I'm not bringing it. (They don't open until 6:15, and they close at…
  • Just curious - I'm in the market for a heart rate monitor. What kind do you have?
  • Wow, all you six-footers out there are awesome! I did not reach my full height of 5'10 until I was nearly 20 years old, for which I am thankful - no one likes to stand out too much in high school. I was about 5'8 when I graduated. Now that I am grown, and there is no hiding it anyway, I love wearing tall shoes and standing…
  • Count me in for a challenge, as that's what I'm supposed to be doing anyway! SW = 169.8
  • Hey, everybody!! I like the sound of this group, count me in for sure! Please feel free to send me Friend Requests. I am 5'10 and currently weigh 169.8. My max weight was 193. I am pretty evenly balanced with kind of a long torso and kind of long legs. They are just long enough to make finding pants and jeans that fit a…
  • Hi, Kim! You and your husband are going to do great! Take it easy with P90X, however. That's sort of something you have to work up to even when you're already fit. Especially the Plyometrics!
  • I haven't had "real" sodas in years, but I have been a heavy Diet Dew drinker until recently. I tapered back to one a day and was feeling smug that the caffeine headaches weren't too bad. Then I started retaining water - I mean swelling up like a TICK before my period, where I looked like I had elephant feet. Have never…
  • Perhaps the idea of the monetary penalty reinforces peoples' natural fear of trying something new or committing? We have a Weight Loss Challenge where I work probably a couple of times a year and it's a "friendly" competition between the three floors of employees. I'm not sure what, if any, prizes they have going this time…
  • I agree; I'm getting more into the forums here myself. Lots of good stuff!
