  • Welcome, welcome! Ashtanga is a great practice. It's very vigorous and athletic - and while I have not done Nicki Doane's dvd, I have heard good things about her teaching. I'm a hardcore ashtangi, so my go-to dvds are Kino MacGregor's and Sharath Jois' primary series. Let me know how you like Nicki's!
  • I opt-out of cheese on pizzas and sprinkle nutritional yeast on top instead! But I know how much some people love cheese on pizza :) I know I miss it sometimes!
  • Want pizza? So have a toasted whole wheat or multigrain flatbread pizza with a pesto base, and an abudance of veggies. Add a sprinkle of low fat cheese on top and enjoy! Want a burger and fries? Grill up a portobella mushroom cap or your own black bean patty and build your burger on a whole wheat bun with whatever veggies…

  • On the opposite end of the spectrum, I've somehow gained 25 without having to go up a size. My pants still fit, albeit more snugly than before. Just keep truckin'!
  • I'm currently working towards getting certified to teach yoga, and our essay assignment for this week was to list 100 Things I Love About Me... it was honestly much more difficult than I had expected, but a great exercise for cultivating self-love. I encourage everyone to start a list, adding at least 2-3 affirmations to…
  • I average 2-3 bananas daily. One with breakfast without fail, and another one or two throughout the day either in a smoothie or by itself as a snack.
  • Amazing! How do you feel? What are some of the changes you have noticed since Day 1?
  • This is by far my favorite movie... so philosophical. "*kitten* it, man. I can't be worried about this *kitten* - life goes on."
  • Halfway through the week update: - No eating out this week, period. Doing surprisingly well on this so far! - Go to the gym 3x this week or for at least 3 hours total. Heading there tonight for my third day in a row (total 3hrs) - Meditate for 5 minutes a day. This one has been tough, but I've managed to pull it off - Try…
  • I've wanted a dog for years now - it seems like it would be such a great motivation to get out and active more often, especially since I don't have many friends.
  • That's awesome - train hard, don't lose focus, and you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to!
  • I lost weight because my ex encouraged me to... but even after a sixty pound loss, I wasn't up to his standards. It totally screwed with my head. We broke up about ten months ago now, and just recently began speaking again in March. I told him a few days ago that he couldn't be a part of my life anymore, and I think its…
  • Don't lose hope! Try mixing up your workout routine, and maybe cut back on alcohol, cheese, and sugar rather than cutting them out?
  • Manduka, Jade, and Lululemon mats are great, though a bit pricey. You can keep replacing a $10-20 mat or invest in one of these that come with lifetime guarantees... if you do decide to keep using a lower quality mat, invest in a good skidless yoga towel to keep from slipping.
  • When I lose 5, a tan and a Polar HRM. When I lose 10, a nice haircut and a new pair of running shoes. When I lose 15, a trip to REI for gear and a weekend hiking excursion at a national park.
  • My first teacher was 500RYT with Dave (Ashtanga) and Cheryl Oliver (Sanskrit, Vedic Chant, Philosophy) My current teacher is a 200ERYT with Jonny Kest (Ashtanga Vinyasa) and Level 2 with Baron Baptiste (Power Vinyasa)
  • Awesome!
  • Awesome goals - they're all realistic and attainable if you dedicate yourself! :) Best of luck. Doing the following with you: - No eating out this week, period. - Go to the gym 3x this week or for at least 3 hours total. - Meditate for 5 minutes a day. - Try one new, healthy, recipe. - Read for at least 30 minutes a day. -…
  • Scored 39 - not a surprise to me. This has made me decide to call a therapist today.
  • I listen to a lot of trance while I run... Armin Van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Ferry Corsten, John O'Callaghan. When I do yoga, I tend more towards J Dilla style hip-hop, Massive Attack, Phantogram.
  • My ex used to ask me "Are you really going to eat that? You better be planning to hit the gym hard later." right in front of waiters whenever he would take me out to dinner. It would make me flush with embarrassment for dating such a jerk, and it made me feel terrible about myself. He did this from the time I began…
  • Workshops are so much fun! I am doing a Heart Opening workshop tomorrow - learning more about chakras, healing, etc.
  • Really? That may not be a very astringent rule... I know a few local yoga teachers who have published articles that had been previously posted on their personal blogs. Technically, you could take what you have written here and make a few minor adjustments in grammar, sentence structure, etc. and then the rule wouldn't…
  • You're awesome! This is like something I would read on mindbodygreen.com - they take submissions - you should totally send this list to them and you might even get published as an article!
  • I have Manduka's Black Mat PRO - for about $100 you get a durable mat made from sustainable resources complete with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE! I've had mine a little over a year now, and it's not showing much wear despite being used nearly every single day since I first unrolled it. In the long run, it's well worth the initial…
  • It's been said that it takes about thirty days to form a new habit... Hang in there yogis; for those who began their journey when this thread was first created, this Saturday marks the 30th day of the 108 day challenge! Remember that you don't necessarily have to sweat it out on your mat every single day to experience the…
