  • Lost a ton of weight on conventional dieting/exercise. Since starting Primal (paleo + dairy and others), I've dropped another 20lbs and have taken off so much body fat my mom told me I looked "gaunt" and was worried I was secretly sick or had an eating disorder. This from a guy who used to weigh in at 340 lbs. I've never…
  • I am primal, not strictly paleo, but when I have a craving for something sweeter I usually make a shake: - 1/2 cup frozen berries (blue, black, raspberries, strawberries, etc) - 1 Scoop whey protein isolate - 1/2 - 1 cup of coconut milk ( I usually dilute my cocunut milk 1 in 4) - 1 tsp of premium cocoa powder Tastes…
  • I dilute it 1 in 4 (1 can coconut milk and 3 cans of cold water) and drink it in lieu of milk. I love to use it in shakes as well.
  • A few months ago I would have told you count calories and that a calorie is a calorie. I lost 95 lbs counting calories and working out. Then it ground to a halt for 10 months. I adjusted calories up and calories down. Exercise intensity up and intensity down to no effect. I trashed the whole low carb thing and referred to…

  • Thank you all for your kind comments. I love how supportive the community on this website is. Keeps me logging in everyday to see how everyone else is doing. I know we will all meet our goals.
  • The best diet is one that works for you and you can build a lifestyle around. If you can maintain the requirements of Paleo and it works for you, then it is great. If you can't sustain it as a lifestyle, then it is not for you.
  • Agree with the above. MFP factors in a deficit already to give you the weight loss you want to acheive. Exercise, while a great and helpful part of losing weight, is not solely for that purpose. Exercise helps you to build muscle, develop cardiovascular endurance and in general have better health and well being. Also note,…
  • In a plateau at the moment. Looking to break it.
  • 0 calories, 0 weight gain. Though with all the acid, it will not hydrate you and it is not great for your teeth. I think they promote water retention as well.
  • I'm glad this thread came up! I love beach body's programs. I've done Power 90, and am 2/3 of the way through P90 Master Series. My wife saw an add for turbo jam, I was just wondering how turbo jam compares with turbo fire? My wife seemed pretty interested. Thanks! -S-
  • NSV = Non-Scale Victory When your weightloss successes don't involve the scale. For example, your weight doesn't change, but you lose 2 inches off your waist and can now fit your old jeans. A Non-scale victory.
  • I guess it depends on your goals though. I don't want to be skinny, I want to be fit. To be fit I need to exercise, and to exercise I need fuel. Part of what I have been learning by following this site, is that exercise is not for weight loss, it is for fitness and health. I know a lot of people are very passionate about…
  • Thanks for all the rapid responses! I love this site! This is kind of what I thought. I will try having a sports drink on hand or maybe have a piece of fruit an hour or so before exercise to add some fuel. On the bright side I guess this means that I am getting a pretty good work out in though!
  • Excellent information. One quote I've seen thrown around by members here is "Diet makes you look good with your clothes on, exercise makes you look good with your clothes off."
  • This ^ In the last month I lost 2 inches off my gut and the scale did not even budge (O_o) . This is especially the case if you exercise a lot too. Scale once a month, tape measure weekly.
  • As a scientist, I put my faith in peer reviewed research published in academic and other scholarly journals. Almost every piece of clinical data I have ever reviewed on the subject points to the fact that a balanced diet rich in whole grains, including wheat, is extremely healthy. I will cite of a few of them for you. It…
  • Protein shakes make an excellent quick no cook breakfast. Try 1 cup of skim milk, 1 scoop of whey protein isolate, a tablespoon of all natural sugar free peanut butter, tablespoon of ground flax seeds, and if you like some fruit (I usually use 1 banana, or 100g of blackberries). I sometimes add 15g of quaker quick oats as…
  • Thank you for all the comments  Let's all keep up the good work.
  • Thanks! Lots of good ideas!
  • They are very accurate. I would say your calories burned make sense for the length of your work out. I can burn about 600 - 700 calories in one hour based on my FT4, so I would say the 1.5 - 1.75 hours of your workout 1100 - 1300 seems reasonable. Especially if it is a challenging cardio work out.
  • Thanks for the reply. I did read this in the FAQ thread as well. I guess I just need to keep doing my best to keep healthy and I imagine eventually the weight will come down. My timeline for my goal is to be at or around 200 lbs by December of next year, 2012. I think that is a reasonable time frame to lose 91 more pounds.
