  • I am glad to hear about your happiness and success. I am out 16 months and doing well too. I read quite a few posts where people have weight gain, supposed stomach stretching and various other issues. Really scary. I am doing all I can to maintain well and keep my weight off.
  • @aylajane I truly appreciate your post with all the details of how you maintain. I am a lot like you in many respects it seems, but I am just at one year out. I know the harder work is yet to come and it helps to know that if you watch your calories, carbs and protein, you don't have to regain. I hope I too can eat more…
  • Congratulations on your successful last year. I am right behind you and I know that it takes a lot of hard work. The best is yet to come!
  • You look great and I bet you feel even better! I am close to goal too. I don't want to lose more than about five more pounds. It has been an amazing year.
  • You look fantastic. I bet you feel that way too. Your picture helps me visualize my loss.
  • Initially I told my family and close friends. I know that my co workers knew why I was off work, but had little comment. But lately I have been getting a lot of comments, compliments and second looks. Sometimes people don't know me. It is obvious that I have changed radically and mostly women ask what I have done. If I…
  • Really loved to see this thread and all the great advice. I am out 9 months and still losing 1-2 lbs a week. I have about 8 lbs to my goal. I do see that I am eating some of the snacky carb foods in small amounts. I have been giving myself "the talk" and have mainly stayed on track. I do see how easy it can be to stray and…
  • How many carb grams do all of you eat daily? I try to keep it near 50 grams. I almost always go over, but am close when I deduct my fiber from the carbs.
  • Great inspiration. The incredible shrinking guy!
  • Congratulations! It's a new day.
  • I am about 20# from my goal and find all your posts help me find my new normal. I also wondered how to find my sweet spot, and was going to just slowly add calories until I find the place where I stop losing and don't gain. My program doesn't address that issue until your one year checkup. Thanks for all your help along…
  • Congratulations! Happy day.
  • You have had an amazing outcome. It is only possible if you have amazing people helping you and you have the wisdom to follow and put your heart into the effort. I too am almost out six months and I have a new life also. Everything is easier when you aren't so heavy. You are a great inspiration to those just starting and…
  • Thanks for all of the great advice. I have been running/walking each morning and that has helped with my losses. I don't read the posts anymore where they are asking how much people have lost. "Comparison is the thief of joy." (unknown) So true! I will get there at my own pace.
  • Woo Hoo!! You look great.
  • At one month out I went to a Christmas party. I am also gluten intolerant, so there is limited choices for me at a party or restaurant usually. I ate a a little cheese and a little turkey meatball. I had a few things on my plate that I did not intend to eat. People really don't spend much time watching what others are…
  • Thanks. My dr doesn't want me to take tummies either.
  • So glad all went well for you. You must be on clear liquids yet? I am on day 11postop and doing well. I am working on getting in 64 oz of fluids I and 50-80 gr of protein a day. I can eat about 2oz at a time. Rest and sip!
  • Running is one of my goals after I have lost some weight. I have several friends who regularly run and I am short of breath when walking hard. My friends are much smaller and it looks so effortless. I think I would feel such accomplishment if I can work into running.
  • I am so with you at this point. My surgery date is Nov 6th, so I too am in the middle of a 10-day liquid diet. I have 3 shakes a day, one bar and one soup. Mostly I am not hungry, but from my breakfast to my lunch is about 6 hours, so I do get a little hungry. I initially had a small headache too, but that was the caffeine…
  • I am in the final stages of insurance approval and have had many of the tests I need. I too asked God for a sign that this was the right choice for me. he just keeps putting this opportunity in front of me. I have many of the same fears that many of you have. I think when you have tried to lose weight for 40 years, only to…
  • Thank you Mangopickle for sharing your journey and the reality of what it took to get where you are now and remain healthy long term. It has really helped me in my journey. You look great!
  • Thank you for your words of wisdom and reason. I will have my surgery in October and am in the stage of questioning my decision. Hearing from others who have been there and have soon improved their lives is so helpful.
  • I am in the process of going thru the steps to a fall surgery. I think your honest, realistic view of how life will be if we want to stay healthy is invaluable. Even though I have a long history of being compliant with weight loss programs over many months, my biggest fear is that I will gain the weight back. I have…
  • You look great and what a change in body and mind! You must be so excited for all the possibilities you have now.
  • Congrats on another step on your road to health. Success is putting one foot in front of the other one day at a time.
  • I assume that by reading an article you think you know the real truth.....but walking in the shoes of those of us with a real, live in the trenches experience and knowledge is another matter. I don't have to wonder if it is real. I live it each day.
  • No truer words were ever spoken. Congrats on your hard won success.
  • I went for my first WLS overview and nutrition meeting at my bariatric center today. My BMI was calculated at 39.9, which the RN said was actually reported as 40. I was happy as I too do not have any comorbidies now. I have been o n BP meds in the past which the RN said would be considered. I act eve believe I was hoping…
  • My loss this week has been better with allowing about 12 hours from my last food to my breakfast. Admittedly it has only been a week, but I might be on to something. I know what you mean about not really being hungry, but wanting "something." It is often a habit when watching tv. Sometimes I have a diet drink or iced tea…
