  • This will sound harsh but that's a pretty poor excuse. There are plenty of much healthier alternatives and as for not being able to cook, if you're journey is going to be successful then you need to learn. How else can you fully understand food?
  • Mother from Calverley!
  • Sorry but Subway's are nutritionally poor (and I'm being polite). The quality of ingredients is below par particularly if you are going to include the protein intake. Don't get me wrong, I'll have the odd one myself but just don't kid yourself that they are in any way healthy!
  • What will be amusing is to revisit the thread in a couple of months and see who has changed their picture and compare it to the decription! especially dog ones etc.
  • Think that worked!!! Mine is in a race called The Grim that happens every December on an army vehicle testing ground in the south of England, always, wet, always muddy, always cold but ALWAYS fun
  • GymBuddy for the Iphone is excellent. all data is exportable too
  • As hewhoiscd has mentioned, it may not be the recovery drink but what you have pre run. Do you run particularly early? You need to ensure that you are correctly pre fuelled.
  • Runkeeper is great but I also use Good Run Guide
  • Been thinking about it. It fits in well with my Marathon training but not sure about the road running. Try and avoid it as much as possible even though my Marathon is on the road (Snowdonia)
  • 85 Miles, gradually increasing as have a Marathon in October. Had a 10 mile and a 10k race in May otherwise would have been nearer 100 Got a Trail Half Marathon later this month in Snowdonia which will be good practice.
  • I usually use a camelbak xct or my Innov8. However last week I bought a Salomon XT Advanced Skin 5 S-Lab and now I can't see me running with anything else. I don't listen to music when I run, I carry water, Torq Gels, Haribo, sometimes my phone and occasionally a camera. Also depending on weather a waterproof. Will also be…
  • Sothern based races - Human Race have several events througout the winter, http://humanrace.co.uk/events/trail-running You also have The Grim in December http://original.grimchallenge.co.uk/ which is very muddy and more than just a run. This looks very good.…
  • It depends on the individual, the weather conditions and the distance / terrain. I would sugeest try different methods, e.g. Bottles, camelbak etc and see what works for you. Two points though: If you're feeling the need to hydrate then I would aslo suggest some form of nutrition. This can be anything from a banana to a…
  • The type of trail shoe you go for depends partly on the types of trail you arre planning to run. Generally you want a good deep tread but one that won't clog with mud. Personally I'd avoid any goretex as whilst they're ok for the odd splash, once water gets in they become like lead weights. I mostly use Adidas Kanadia and…
  • I don't listen to music when I run but I'm starting to up my mileage and my barber suggested audio books as he'd listened to them during his marathon training. I'm a bit worried about getting too engrossed in the story but thought it might be an opportunity to use some brain power as well as lung power
  • For long trail runs - cycling I use a Camelbak Octane XT, very snug doesn't rub at all and has a couple of pockets too. I would highly recommend it. It's 3ltr - 100 oz http://www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Packs/2012-Octane-XCT.aspx I also use an Innov8 12ltr (capacity) that has the benefit of the hydration pouch…
  • Ooooh like the look of that - handy for the Snowdonia Marathon in October

  • Have a look at these http://www.canicross.org.uk/ I know you're in the states but they will be able to help. Some dogs struggle to cool down so depending on your climate that might be a consideration.
  • PHD Flapjacks are good and a lot cheaper than the Maximuscle range
  • I'd ask to speak to some of their clients. Also personality comes into it. Both could be exactly the same in terms of qualifications, experience and success rates but you might click with one but not the other. There's a lot of factors to consider when picking a PT or any type of tutor
  • I temd not to listen to music when I R=run. When I did I used Sennheiser PMX80 - had them about 18 months and they have taken a lot of abuse. I still use them in the gym all the time and they're great.
  • I get up bowl of porridge, dressed and go - total time 20-30 mins. This is for runs up to about 12-13k, anyhting longer and I tend to run a bit later in the day.
  • Try and relax and run slightly slower than your pace for the first 1k or so. Also make sure you perform a thorough warm up. This should hekp you feel in the "zone" Lots of tips on here for 5K http://www.the5krunner.com/ Good luck
  • kettlebell and running gear (shoes, Garmin etc.)
  • Ah yes makes sense with the reference to the squat rack
  • I think you need to be very careful if you use a step. Anyone who uses them at my gym tends to tip forward and use their back. I stick to normal deadlift
  • Looks like I am about to sign up for my first Marathon, The Snowodn marathon in October. Will have to book up a few halfs as well now.
