  • Bravo, Rob! You got this!
  • @FleaBailey - your story is incredibly moving! Congrats on your quit and that fantastic weight loss!
  • I could go on and on with this topic, but will try not to babble too much... I think I smoked longer than you've been alive. Started at 11, and by the time I quit was smoking two packs a day. I quit a dozen times - with the patch and cold turkey, but never longer than 2 years, and then something would upset me and I…
  • Yeah, but you're tryin' to BEAT it, mate! And if you're here again, then you're a fighter & keep trying! B) Go get 'em!
  • We should totally start a tall ladies group - there are a lot of us here! I'm currently recovering from flu and involved in a long-term fitness challenge group, but would be happy to join, if somebody else can lead/organize. I'm 1/4 inch short of 5'11. Started at 264, down to 230 now and shooting for 199 - at least…
  • I'm a huge fan of Opa dressings as well - excellent! Their ranch is 60 cal per 2 tablespoons. Marie's also makes a good yogurt Ranch at 70 cal per 2 tablespoons. Also love the Marie's Raspberry Vinaigrette, which is 50 cal but admittedly has some sugar in it. Opa and Maries are both found in the produce section.
  • That is FAN-TAS-TIC!!!!! Bravo on a spectacular year! <3
  • Hi y'all! I'm 45 & would be happy to be friends. I just hit the halfway mark to my goal a couple of weeks ago - I've lost 34 but still have 31 lbs to go. You've definitely come to the right place as there is a huge community of awesome people here, all at different stages of the journey, willing to help and…
  • Great topic, I've really enjoyed reading all the replies! I'm just under 5'11. I started at 264 and am now 230, and really, although I can see it in my face, I often don't notice a lot otherwise. EXCEPT... I decided to take progress pictures, because when I look at them I CAN see it, see what others are seeing in…
  • Great post! There is a lot of wisdom here! For me, one of the best things to realize is, you can't "go on a diet". It has to be a lifetime commitment. Diet fads, trendy gimmicks, pills, etc. will ultimately fail if you aren't willing to maintain them for a lifetime. Focus on living a healthy lifestyle that is…
  • I've got the Fitbit Charge HR as well and love it! As with the others, you're not going to get much of a calorie burn with weight training, though you can set it to record activity and since it tracks your heart rate, you might be able to get some sort of caloric translation from that. Good luck!
  • I have a sweet tooth, so I usually do vanilla for snacking, though I keep plain on hand for use in cooking. One of my favorite evening snacks is to mix vanilla greek yogurt with Trader Joe's Organic Granny Apple Granola, sometimes with half a fuji apple mixed in. Sweet & crunchy!
  • I use the MapMyFitness app, and I would assume they're pretty similar (same company). If you go into the MFP app, select "more" in the bottom right corner. Then scroll almost to the bottom and you'll see "our other apps". Select that and you'll see MapMyWalk in the list. Just hit install & I think you're good!
  • Hi Y'all, EWTN has a great app that I use on my iPhone and my Kindle. It includes the RSV-CE bible which I love, and you can also purchase the Truth & Life Dramatized Audio New Testament which is amazing! The app also has all kinds of links, EWTN news, radio & tv. Podcasting & all sorts of goodies. I also use Laudate and…
  • Awesome! It really is a small world!
  • I most definitely nominate you for "Most Original Hobby. EVER." ;)
  • I used to play bass :) Haven't in ages but I still have my gear, I just dust it every week - lol. Now I make jewelry.
  • I get the Swedish thing too (or variations on a Nordic theme - Dutch, German, etc.) just because I'm tall & blue-eyed I guess. (I'm almost 5'11") I'm actually Cornish & French. I tell them, "hey, there ARE tall people from other countries, ya know?! LOL
  • RJT said it well I think but I just wanted too add a couple of things, the first being, all carbs are most definitely not created equal. :) Veggies, especially leafy greens can't be beat for fiber content (not to mention energy!) Replacing some of the starches (pasta, potatoes, breads) with veggies should help. I noticed…
  • Well said! Attitude can make a huge difference, with giving up smoking, dieting, whatever. I've heard it said: "You can lose the weight you might gain. You can't regrow a lung." 502 days, 10 hours, 35 minutes and 44 seconds smoke free. 20098 cigarettes not smoked. $4,849.32 and 5 months, 3 days, 12 hours of your life…
  • I quit several times - both with the patch and cold turkey. My longest quit was about 3 years, and every time I fell off the wagon it was because I was stressed out and "didn't care" anymore, and before I knew it I was puffing like a chimney again. I was my own worst enemy. In the end what worked for me was a healthy dose…
  • From Michigan by way of New Jersey, Las Vegas & Nashville, but now divide my time between Greenville, SC and Tucson, AZ.
  • Hi Trev, welcome back! I understand about post-quitting weight - I gave up a 2-pack a day habit last September and it is HARD to avoid gaining weight after that! My philosophy is, you can lose any weight you gain from quitting; you can't get your lungs back from lung cancer. Good for you for fighting for your health, and…
  • Hi Lou, feel free to add me, I'm always in the market for new friends! A "typical" food day is going to vary greatly among folks here - some are overweight & out of shape (like myself!), some are athletes in training, some are just trying to make healthy choices. Age, activity level & body type are going to play a…
  • Hi Alex, I'd be happy to be friends! I understand the whole biscuit tin thing! I'm fairly new here as well, but this is a wonderful website and a great support. Welcome! Cheers, Tammy :flowerforyou:
  • Sooooo glad you posted this! I didn't know about the necessity of the 3-6-9 so that is helpful to me as well. I just started fish oil supplements this month - I LOATHE fish and never, ever, ever eat it, blech, gag! (Uh, can you tell I don't much care for fish? LOL) Anyway, I really dreaded the "fishy burps" thing & shelled…
  • Hi Joy, welcome! :flowerforyou:

  • It is far too easy to get obsessed with the scale - I speak from experience! LOL It helps me to weigh in less frequently, and I put more trust in the tape measure and how my clothes feel. If the scale hasn't budged but my waist is two inches smaller, I can tell ya, I'm not listening to the scale! Cheers! Tammy…
  • Hi Megan & welcome! I am fairly new here as well. I understand your frustration with the gallbladder thing. Mine was a medication that caused me to gain over 100 lbs - it is so irritating when you have circumstances like that which are really almost beyond our control! But kudos to you for fighting back.…
