What do people mistake you as?

What are you?

Does it bother you?

** I get mistaken for a NUMBER of things...Hispanic mostly but within that there's Puerto Rican, Mexican, Brazilian..I've heard it all. Doesn't bother me a bit.

I have been mistaken for Latina. It doesn't bother me at all. My BFF is Mexican and has nine siblings. I recently attended her mother's funeral and I was shocked at how many people thought I was one of her girls!

It's usually one of the first things someone asks me if they're comfortable with me (or actually, even if they're not). I always tell them to guess, haha. Or, if they're being particularly annoying, I ask them why they want to know.

It bothers me only because it seems like people need to know "what I am" or why I "don't look quite white."

I've had this response as well. Sometimes I ask them..."Well what do you think I am?" and then I'll tell them.

I only wish my asian characteristics didn't overshadow my Dutch features. I guess I am what I am.
  • The following dialog has occurred so many times...

Sometimes upon meeting me someone will ask "so where are you from?"
    Me: America?
    Person: Huh?
Me: Well, I was born in the United States...so I'm American.
Person: No, I mean, where are you REALLY from?
    Me:
  • I've been called Mexican.. nuuuuumerous times. Also, this one guy swore up and down that I was Samoan. I was also called a, 'Fat Asian'... dunno where the hell they got that one from. I'm actually black. Not mixed with anything.. just black.

I'm sometimes asked what I am (or where I'm from) because people have a hard time believing a white girl could be built this way. It doesn't usually bother me unless they make ignorant comments about myself and the other races they associate my build with.

Yes! I am half Mexican but don't look Mexican whatsoever. I think it's my Mexican side is half Spanish (tall, blue eyes)
People usually think I'm Swedish because I'm tall I guess?

Nah, I'm pretty obviously white. My fiance, however, is half Hispanic and people always think he looks Native American or Middle Eastern.

do you have the tin foil hat because there's so much stupidity on these threads? I'll be honest, I think I need one right about now. Oh, and an actual reply to your post, I don't think you look that Asian.

I get the Swedish thing too (or variations on a Nordic theme - Dutch, German, etc.) just because I'm tall & blue-eyed I guess. (I'm almost 5'11") I'm actually Cornish & French. I tell them, "hey, there ARE tall people from other countries, ya know?! LOL
