  • Hi! My personal challenge for this year is to ride 3000 miles. I know I will average more in the non-snow months :) (I live in UT) but am also wanting to do some bikepacking trips to add in miles. Would anyone else like to join an annual challenge as well?
  • Been lifting free weight for quite awhile... I'll try & find compound excercises somewhere else. "personal trainer, really" :(
  • Increase endurance, strength, get more fit...maybe try some canyoneering & climbing this summer. Love the clean - press exercise...seems to hit several muscle groups & was simply looking for advice on combination exercises. I've looked online & it all seems targeted to gymrat weight lifter, etc. That was why I posted here.
  • Guess I've got them covered except deadlift...but maybe the clean / press or clean & jerk covers that.
  • Currently - my full body routine is long. lat pulls, rows, assisted dips / pull ups, clean & press with bar, bench press, squats, lunges tricep with dumbells & some cardio. I am trying to reduce the time at the gym and make it more efficient. Ideally looking for 5 or so 'compound or combination' weight excercises - advice.…
  • Thank you all very informative!! Thanks!!
  • Hi! I thought I'd reply to your post...I am unsure of protein deficient side effects BUT - I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years. Initially I probably didn't eat that well but I have found it is not difficult to get daily protein. (I also am a skier and biker so I need a little more protein then standard, I also don't…
  • Hey - sorry you had an accident :( I had knee surgery and it took a few months before I could actually get on a road bike. I'm into backcountry skiing and have to be super patient with that. They say it takes up to a year to be healed. I know how insane not doing stuff can be! There is hope - I'm working out with weights…
  • Hey - I feel for you....I've had knee surgery and am just barely getting out in the backcountry - trying not to push it. The only thing that has kept me a little sane is biking, biking, biking. :) Hopefully Germany is bike friendly!
  • Hi. I've been wanting to do a veggie juice / fruit juice and broth fast myself soon. I've done them in the past (several years) ago and have found that really eating an exemplary diet a few days before and a few days after is SO helpful. I need to get on that myself - I had knee surgery and it is a slow process with not…
  • That was the first couple weekend rides....20 ish & I think the next was 31. You can totally do it Jess!
  • It was crazy....I posted the story under this topic. But, YES - I did it and just under 7 hrs :)
  • Thanks for all the words of wisdom and encouragement! The ride was brutal - incredible. Even though Utah is a desert environment you wouldn't have known last Sat. It downpoured the first 30 miles. After huddling with 20+ other freezing women in the bathroom at the park (oh yeah...it was 50 degrees out) it stopped raining…
  • Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I'm settling on the oatmeal with cinnamon, almonds and craisins. (It's what I eat most a.m.'s at work) I think I'll add a banana too. I'll not chow down as much as planned, but will still have the yummy naan and saag paneer. I've gotten addicted to Indian food - if anyone wants…
  • Thanks - I'm also seeking breakfast advice for tomorrow's century. I normally don't eat until I've been up for a couple hours but must eat before riding. Suggestions? I'm thinking oatmeal?
  • I'm doing my first century tomorrow.....so I'm not an expert but have done an 86 mile last weekend and longish rides before. I'm really not into processed stuff but I've used emergenC electrolyte and tossed into a little sized 'simply lemonade' (or limeade if preferred). There's tons of sugar in the drink and the…
  • Ashley - I've been out of town last week but did keep track of the calories. Do we post them in a central place? Please let me know.....Thanks!!
  • Hi. My screen name is gaiaearth and my name is Justine. Thanks.
  • I'd love to be number 324. I'm not sure where you get the number icons or if it is still available. I also don't have a GPS and my phone is dumb. (No smart phone with apps). I can however post a .kml (google earth) file of my routes or a screen shot. Is that acceptable?? Let me know, thanks! TBY EDIT: Sorry - all rides…
  • Thanks Fran - I'm going to add that group and participate if possible. I don't have a GPS or a 'smart phone' (mine is quite old & dumb....lol) but I'll upload a screen shot of GE with my rout or a kml file.
  • Thanks Dahamac, this is great advice too! I did start training 8 weeks out but got a little intimidated when I did my 52 miler last weekend - hurt for days and I chugged on the way home. I've never riden in a group situation either. Thanks for the advice on food too - grapes sound yummy / electrolyte drinks.....and I'll…
  • I'll check out the link! Sounds exciting, thanks.
  • Thanks so much for replying. I've been doing yoga and stability ball situps too. I'll do more of that. I COMPLETELY forgot about the existence of electrolyte drink powders...I'll check that out! Maybe on my 65 m goal for this weekend. PS Love the hair in your pic :)
  • I don't have a recipe but have heard that you can replace a lot of the oil in sweet breads with applesauce. It still has the sugars, but I think it's a little better when they come from an actual fruit source. Good luck & please post if you find a yummy sucessful recipe. (I have bananas in my freezer :) )
  • Hi, I'm Justine. I'm really excited to join this group. After struggling to be consistent on working out, the next hardest thing for me is to be consistent about logging in Hopefully this will help in consistency and motivation!! BIO - I'm in ok shape and medium active (BC skiier, bike commuter, mtn biker). I think I eat…
  • Hi, I'm Justine. Ooops - I'll copy and paste into to appropriate forum. :)
  • I saw this topic on the sidebar and had to reply. I am sorry to hear you have been called names and emotionally attacked. That is UNACCEPTABLE, PERIOD. Regardless of your whatever your weight may be...120 lbs or 250 lbs that behavior is completely disrespectful. Obviously I don't know either of you but I had spent the…
  • I bike commute to work and also on errands. I don't know if it made me loose a ton, I think working out & skiing did that better but it definetly is excellent maintenance. When I've skipped it for a couple weeks in the winter I got out of shape quick. I guess it depends on how hard & long you ride.....I've just signed up…
  • I usually just keep 70 - 80% dark chocolate only. I find that smaller amounts of very dark chocolate are way more satisfying (lower cals and fat) then milk chocolate. You can't deny yourself chocolate.....especially if you're female ;)
