  • I also read something similar to what Annr mentioned. I've worked hard to have substitute snacks so I still get my "Sugar, Salt, Fat" fix. I have fruit available for candy (my favorite are bananas because they are more portable), nuts for salt and sometimes I put butter or peanut butter on items to get fat. I fill up…

  • I'm also a software developer. It's easier to run and get a bag of potato chips and pop tarts when time is critical for a delivery. As was mentioned it's very important to log food. However it's also important to have healthy food choices readily available. I found that high protein ones like beef jerky, nuts, and apples…
  • You also could try searching on YouTube for "chair exercises". That way you can exercise and not place excess force and stress on your foot. Do you have hand weights?
  • Tried that. I know that I'm not burning nearly the same amount of calories. If that was the case, I'd be mopping the floor with sweat instead of water.
  • Walking around campus and various workouts here at http://neilarey.com/
  • I find that when I have more fiber in meals it keeps me from getting hungry and snacking in between (like a Snickers bar). I get high numbers when I eat Kashi+apple from sugar, but I feel more satisfied with the fiber level. I also try to make sure that I have at least one fiber rich fruit or vegetable with every meal. I…
  • Once I started weighing food, I realized my eyes were not good for portion size estimation.
  • I've also heard what MalayanTiger said about protein powders and heavy metals. However it is also in apple juice. That doesn't in anyway justify the values but as was mentioned this could be fertilizers poisoning us overall.
  • I started Week 1 Day 1 today. The Texas sun must be about 2000 degrees.
  • I bought a food scale. If you make meals from scratch, it allows you to calculate the weight of each for the recipe and calculate the amount exactly. However I did find that to be overkill when several components were involved. The easier way was to find something that was made commercially and use that. The commercial…
  • 458 calories with 10 g of fiber. I also add a supplement to bring it to a total of 15 g for breakfast.
  • 47. Back on this journey after regaining the weight I lost.
  • I just threw a party. The guests were informed that there was food, water and soda. If they chose to drink something else, bring for themselves and enough to share. This worked out to be enough for themselves and the people who "forgot" to bring something.
  • I did the same thing. Beer is like eating a slice of bread (wrt calories) and wine is as bad a fruit juice. They have flavored vodkas which can be mixed with water and still give a nice buzz without the influx in calories from needing several to get the same feeling.
  • Gin and tonic isn't really that bad (~100 cals). Using diet tonic reduces it to about 60 cals. I often found that snacking accompanied drinking and thus my slip off the calorie hill took a nose dive. As someone in the thread mentioned, just watch what you eat and drink and you should be ok without overly depriving yourself.
  • Centrum chewable. I haven't experienced the stomach irritation that I've experienced with other brands. I think the chewable types are more digestible (based on my family's results).
  • I saw more improvements on my body using free weights than machines. A trainer told me (once) that machines typically exercise muscles in groups while free weights require balance and control. Thus making your body work harder. Regardless, the important thing is to exercise. I started with machines and transitioned to free…
  • 1 tsp of peanut butter spread on slice of toast + slice of cheese
  • MFP has helped me loose quite a bit of weight. No need to take pics, I accept my compliments in-person as the muscles start to show through the flab.
  • Do pushups till complete exhaustion. Then use the lighter dumbbells. That will make them "feel" a lot heavier. You can also do lunges and prisoner squats to get a good workout.
  • I was told yesterday that my Vitamin D is low. My doctor said this is becoming more prevalent with people working indoors and not getting much (if any) sun exposure. I'm getting supplements today. I also didn't know that symptoms are fatigue, weight gain and hair loss.
  • I use it in smoothies to provide fiber and nutrients. It has a strong flavor so I need fruit to mask/balance it.

  • I'm working on Week 7-Day 1 now.
  • To help my progress, I bought a pair of running shoes from a REAL running store (not Wal-Mart) like I was doing before. I then accompanied that with an app purchase (C25K). Best investment I've made. The shoes were a bit pricey, but now that I've been fitted, I can get replacement pairs online for cheaper. I'm considering…
  • I usually comment only on exercise. I don't give "atta-boy/girls" for being under the calorie goal and to be honest I don't have time to directly read items unless I am explicitly asked.
  • The OP mentioned going to nursing school and 3 kids. This alone could point to not getting enough sleep. As one person mentioned, what do you think are the problems? Are you getting enough sleep? You'll also need to make your diary visible please.

  • I recently spent approximately $100 on a good pair of running shoes. It's been a great investment.
  • I'm also doing the app (Week 2). I've tried doing running before. This time I decided not to be cheap and was fitted for a decent pair of shoes. It has made a HUGE difference.
  • Are you pressed for time in the morning or just can't think of food choices? You don't have to eat traditional breakfast foods; you just need to eat. Protein and fiber keep you feeling full so there are a variety of choices. For example, salad with meat, an apple, and a yogurt is a balanced meal. If time is a factor,…
  • I can't afford a gym. I do own an elliptical and just started the C25K program. For calories burned, is there an entry in MFP for step mill? Is the closest comparison one of these --> "running (jogging) up stairs" or "stair treadmill ergometer"? Is the workout of running up and down bleachers similar to a step mill?
