I recently had a knee injury, and then got sick and was absent from workouts for about 1-2 weeks. All I did was adjusted my calorie intake since I wasn't as active and kept better track of the foods I was eating. I actually still lost about .5lbs during that time.

I used fingerless lightweight Harbingers for a year or so and I loved them. It really depends on what fits your hand the best so you should try a few different brands and sizes on in a sports store. You don't want them to pinch you anywhere and/or rub against your skin and create an abrasion or anything.
