  • See your primary care provider and request a sleep study. Untreated sleep apnea is very hard on the heart, and using CPAP can give you better quality sleep. Better sleep can help with weight loss. Many insurances will allow home sleep testing as long as you don't have comorbidities such as COPD, CHF, or use supplemental O2.
  • I am also returning. I used to be good about tracking my food, exercising, etc. In March 2020 I was diagnosed with a rare stage 4 cancer in my GI tract. I've had to change my diet for the worse. The healthiest foods are the most problematic (between the chemo and cancer), so I eat what I best tolerate, which is unhealthy…
  • I do hope you are using CPAP. Weight loss can improve the sleep apnea or even eliminate the need for CPAP. But in the meantime, your heart will thank you for using it.
  • I'm a registered sleep technologist. Disrupted sleep could be due to many different things such as sleep apnea, restless legs, bruxism, medications, etc. I would suggest speaking to your healthcare provider and requesting a sleep study. Many insurances are doing home studies which are less expensive and more convenient.…
  • I am 45 and have been single most of my life (though I have/do/am dating). I live alone and sometimes it gets lonely. But I'm accustomed to doing things alone. If I want to go to a movie I can go alone. Out to dinner at a nice restaurant? Yep... I am perfectly fine going alone. Out to a bar? Um... that depends. As for…
  • I have a membership at the YMCA, which is 1.5 miles down the road from me, vs fancier gyms that are across town... would have been too easy to make excuses not to drive all the way over. My Y has a couple fantastic pools, which I did for awhile, but now that it's summer I'm just using the treadmill. I have a knee injury so…
  • I hate cottage cheese. The only way I can eat it is: Mix 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1/4 tsp vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp almond extract. Stir in 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (I use Greek); top with 1 cup berries of your choice (I use strawberries). This is just over 200 calories and full of protein... DELISH!
  • I've been doing the same, lost 20 lbs and then nothing. I am very overweight, so the weight should continue to melt off, but it's not. My boyfriend is a personal trainer, and he says I'm "trying to get to California on an 1/8th of a tank of gas". I haven't yet pinned him down to what I should be doing, but that's next!…
  • I can't stand cottage cheese, but I make 2 things with it. First of all, a delicious strawberry parfait that's slightly over 200 calories. I take 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese, mix in 1/4 tsp vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp almond extract, then add 1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt. Stir that together and top with sliced berries. The…
  • I make very good turkey "patties" with 20 oz ground turkey, 1/3 cup bread crumbs, 1 egg, 1 TBSP lemon juice, 2 TBSP soy sauce, and sliced scallions. I divide them into 8 patties and fry in a little olive oil. They work out to about 100 calories per patty.
  • This is a lot of work! Thank you Donna! I am sorry that I am one you frequently have to remind to post weight, but I will try to do better! I've got several accountability methods on my plate right now, so hopefully things will look up and my weight will go down!
  • I have a knee injury that prevents me from doing anything that is really weight bearing, besides walking. If it's not a lack of mobility, it's pain. I have wanted to be in shape enough to do Zumba, as it looks fun, but knew it was something I wouldn't be physically able to do. I recently started doing aqua zumba. I'm sure…
  • He's not my SO, as I just met him. But I find it interesting, because I am way overweight, and he is an advanced personal trainer with a ripped rock hard body. I went to an event, and he was the first one I saw. My first thought was, "I am not leaving this earth without talking to him". You see, I enjoy flirting and do it…
  • Woo hoo! First time ever I've been on the good list! Nothing like a motivator than a new, sweet, gorgeous, sexy man... and did I mention he's an advanced personal trainer??? I'm not taking advantage of him though... not in that way! Looking forward to another great week!
  • Four years ago I tore my ACL... didn't have insurance so no surgery. Six months later I fell and tore the meniscus in the same knee (the most painful thing I've ever experienced). Again, no insurance, no surgery. So I've been puttering along, and now my "good" knee is worse than my injured knee, due to compensating. I am…
  • Give it a try. You will probably enjoy it. And who cares if you are the youngest! Bring a friend or two!
  • I work 12-13 hour shifts, usually 7pm to 8am, with a 2 hour round-trip commute. I usually get about 5 hours of sleep on my work days. Needless to say, I don't get any workouts done on those days. And I sleep as long as I can, so I don't have time for anything when I wake up except showering and getting ready for work. What…
  • After smoking for 30 years, including many years of working in 2nd hand smoke, I gave it up cold turkey, in the middle of the day, with no plan to quit. It was the easiest thing I've ever done. If you are truly ready, you can do it. If you just get through the first couple days you'll be fine. I've quit 2 other times cold…
  • I'm 43 and have been single and dating for the last 20 years. Well... actually I got divorced at 24 and didn't date anyone for 7 years because I didn't feel good about myself... so I guess I've only been dating now about 12-13 years. Anyway... I am also heavy. I dated one man for 5 years who was GORGEOUS! People would look…
  • Thinking about a trip to Dallas Texas for my birthday in March to reunite with an ex-boyfriend : )
  • Thanks again! Count me in!
  • I have an ambitious goal I'd like to meet by the beginning of March, and in order to do that I need to lose 4.5 lbs per week. I am heavy enough that this is safe and do-able. I am eating properly and exercising. MFP seems to only go as high as 2 lbs a week. Obviously, the heavier you are the bigger numbers you can safely…
  • I'm a sleep tech and if you think you need a sleep study, or someone tells you that you snore loudly or stop breathing in your sleep you better get one. If you are currently on CPAP therapy, I would recommend having a repeat study with about every 40-50 lbs you lose... depending of course on your weight to begin with.…
  • Haha! Thanks, but no thanks! I can't even enter a sauna! My brother does Bikram yoga and I think he's nuts! Besides, I get migraines from heat and sun.
  • Current: Polysomnography (Sleep) Tech Dream: Same, but would also like to teach
  • OMG! I feel so honored??? lol
  • I was dating a guy I worked with, and we often flirted at work. I worked at a bingo hall at the time. I was at the snack bar trying to find something to eat with one hand behind my back (why i stood that way, I don't know, but I did). Next thing I know, there's a body pressed up against my back. I felt the shirt, and it…
  • I actually got this recipe from Hungry Girl, and I've tried it. It will work on this plan. Get a bag of Broccoli Slaw at the grocery store. A 1-cup serving is only 25 calories, and just veggies. I put it in a pan with a little bit of water and steam it until it's soft. While steaming (it smells SO bad!) I add some onion…
  • I couldn't find anything in the book about protein shakes. I just bought a new carton of coconut milk (non-dairy, and I'm thinking it could be used as a healthy fat) and use it with whey protein powder. Anyone?
