  • Take what you hear with a grain of salt. BMR is difficult to judge correctly. If I ate at my BMR I cannot lose weight. I have been eating consistently below my calculated BMR, not eating back calories burned for 6 months now. I feel great, have tons of energy and lose about .5 to 1lb a week. Ignore all the "starvation…
  • I think a lot of people are taking the question wrong. Only you can decide if you are / were settling. If you don't feel you are, then this question wasn't for you. (please correct me if I'm wrong) For me, I realized I was settling. I was about 70lbs overweight, and knew I should lose weight, but it wasn't a priority. I…
  • I always have a hard time with BMR calculators. I must have a non existent metabolism. According to Fat2fit I have a BMR of 1833. With light exercise I should be at 2569. I work out at the gym hard 5 days a week. 3 days heavy lifting, 2 days HITT cardio. I also have a 2nd job delivering 3 days a week on foot walking…

  • In other words... Protein shakes are fine. Count them as the calories do add up. Eating enough protein will help minimize muscle loss as you lose weight.
  • I weigh usually every morning. I only take it to heart if it's been a week and it hasn't changed.
  • I am currently at 192, have my calories set at 1500 and am currently losing about 1lb a week.
  • Replace the Coke with Coke Zero or Diet Coke. Caffeine is a appetite suppressant and does me wonders.
  • Just have to say that link is the best advice I have seen so far on this board.
  • Not completely convinced the BMR is completely accurate for all body types. My BMR is calculated at 1912. I have been eating 1500 calories max not adding for exercise for the last 6 months. "starvation" mode is hugely over hyped. Anyway, what works for me, is one day a week I eat at BMR by upping my carbs but staying at or…
  • Sadly, you have to find what works for you. Start at what you feel comfortable with. If you have not lost in 2 weeks, lower calories or up cardio without eating back those calories. Wait 2 weeks and adjust as necessary. It really does vary quite a lot from person to person.
  • i love how people blame the show for the contestants gaining the weight back. Of course they did, to keep the weight off you HAVE to change your lifestyle. As most people eventually go back into their old habits, they regain the weight. Makes no difference how you lose the weight, it's the lack of life style change after…
  • And I quote "A breastfeeding woman burns between 200 and 500 calories per day more than non-breastfeeding women" 1200 a day? Are you breastfeeding triplets? I had a strong feeling before, but now I can comfortably say you are trolling. I hope the OP can get some useful information and make the needed changes, as to me, I…
  • I always have a hard time with question like this. It's just a meaningless number, The mirror is the best way to judge. When you like what you see in the mirror, you are at your ideal weight.

  • Spot on. Everything has been said. There is nothing more we can tell you. Best of luck with your goals.
  • @NoAdditives I'm sorry we disagree. I weigh 192lbs. I work out at the gym 5 days a week. I walk at 4-4.5mph for 2 hours 3 times a week. I eat 1500 calories max a day. . As I have lost weight, I have had to keep dropping my calories. I am currently losing about 1lb a week. At 2500 you are eating 1000 calories a day more…
  • I know I would sure love to try though!
  • I had to cut down to 1400 calories to lose weight. Each person is different. Doesn't change the fact if you are not losing weight, either burn more through exercise WITHOUT eating more or cut down the amount of calories you are eating. It really is that simple.
  • I could just as easily say my Honda gets better mileage than your truck, so I will not go empty on gas by driving. Some burn faster, some slower. You can't change physics. If you eat at a deficit you will lose weight. Not losing weight? You are NOT eating at a deficit. Nice try though.
  • Yes. I used to run 3 miles every morning, work out in the gym 5 days a week for an hour. I never lost 1lb or any inches. Once I started counting calories I starting losing 2lbs a week. Diet is everything. @NoAdditives That goes without saying. If you are not losing weight, let's be honest, you are not filling yourself up…
  • Short answer, Yes. Most people that work out a ton to lose weight either stay the same weight, or gain as they eat more to compensate. Sorry, I wish there was a better answer.
  • A calorie doesn't magically changed based on when you eat it. You can eat all your calories in one meal, or spread out over 6 meals. Do what works for you. If you like eating more often, go for it. I eat 2 meals a day a love it. As long as your calories are in a deficit you will lose weight.
  • Ignore all the hype and misinformation. Fat doesn't make you fat, excess calories do. Drop calories until you are losing 1-2 lbs a week at most. Once your body fat is where you want it, eat at a slight calorie surplus while working hard to build the muscle. This will minimize fat gain and put on some nice lean muscle.
  • Striker is right on the money. People complicate it so much. At the end of the day it's calories in vs calories out. Eat 1500 calories, DON'T count exercise at all. weigh yourself once a week at the same time preferably first thing in the morning. If you are not losing weight, cut calories by 300 and try that for a week.…
