  • Awesome. You go, girl!! Always remember how hard you have fought to get here and continue with that same determination. Maintenance is so much harder than losing!!
  • I am almost 7 years out from my RNY. I have not experienced any problems. I hope your feel better soon. Go back to your doctor if things do not improve.
  • Eating is 90% of it. I am very active in my every day life but do not really "exercise' anymore. Many of us do not do any formal exercise and can maintain our losses. Focus on the eating and you will continue to do well. I had my RNY 6.5 years ago. My highest was 339. Currently I am 145 and want to lose 5 pounds I have…
  • Sadly after weight loss surgery, many people think they are "cured" and go back to their bad habits. Or they think the surgery is magic and they do not have to work to keep the weight off. I do not track every day, just when I am up a few pounds (currently I am up 5 but will lose them in a few weeks)
  • I am 6.5 years out from RNY. I have gone from 340 to 140 (well, 145 right now but will lose the 5 I gained). I weigh daily. I can do a lot of damage if I do not watch my weight closely. A great website to track your weight is https://trendweight.com/.
  • I have been active in the bariatric community for around 8 years now. From my observations, most successful sleevers keep their calories around 800 and carbs under 50 during their losing phase.
  • How tall are you? What is your body fat percentage? My only concern for you would be if your goal weight really should be 185 and you are justifying a 10 pound gain now, will you justify 10 more down the line? and 10 more after that? It's easy for weight gain to creep up and then get out of control.
  • I also picked a goal weight smack dab in the middle of the normal BMI range. It was my weight watcher goal weight 20+ years ago when i reached lifetime. I liked the way I looked and felt back then so that is what I chose. It has been pretty easy for me to maintain (I am 6.5 years out from RNY). Right now I am up 5 over my…
  • What does your surgeon say? In the beginning you really should be eating by volume and measuring your portions. I probably ate 600 calories a day in the beginning and worked my way up to 1200-ish while I was losing. I eat 2000 now to maintain and cut back to 1500 when I need to lose, but we are all different.
  • To love myself more. I truly believe when we love ourselves, we make good choices in all aspects of our lives. Everything else falls into place.
  • You cannot "ungrow" skin. Plastic surgery is the only way to get rid of it. I had a ton after losing 200 pounds. Here is a before/after plastic surgery of me.
  • I had my RNY six years ago. Surgery was the tool I needed to let me lose 200 pounds while I learned healthy eating habits. Many people I know who had weight loss surgery the same time as me have already regained a ton. Sadly, it is easy to do. I give myself a 3 pound limit. If I reach 3 pounds above my goal weight, I cut…
  • I weigh daily and have done so since my RNY 6 years ago. I could do a lot of damage in a week. The scale keeps me on track.
  • I hate spanx. Flexees work much better for me and feel much more comfortable. Wal Mart carries a lower expensive Flexees line. I use these when wearing slacks and longer dresses to keep the jiggle in place. They say they are long but the fall right below my knees (I'm 5'7" tall)…
  • For someone close to 600 pounds getting down to a healthy weight without surgery isn't going to happen. You know this. I personally know hundreds of weight loss surgery patients and none of them lost all their hair and it came back for those who lost a lot. Odds are, you will not lose all your hair without it coming back.…
  • Generally, the larger the size, the more you need to lose to get to a smaller size. It could take 20-30 pounds when I was big but now even a 5 pound difference can make my clothes too big or too small. Overall I went to a size 32W to a size 6, so on average, it took me about 15 pounds to go down a size.
  • As others have said, looks do matter but our tastes are different. My friends have always thought I have strange taste (they would say I go for tall goofy looking men). Looks get my attention but personality keeps me interested.
  • Making comments about other people's weight loss or gain is inappropriate. Period. I think it is sad that some people need compliments to validate their self-worth.
  • I have heard stories of insurance companies using your weight at the end of your supervised diet and were denied. It depends on your insurance. What is your BMI now?
  • If your job is not strenuous (no heavy lifting, etc) most of us are back at work in 2 weeks. I was exhausted the first few months, but made it through my work day just fine. I did go home and take naps for a while : )
  • Speed of weight loss does little to impact the amount of loose skin you will have. Genetics plays the biggest part. From my many years in the bariatric community, I'd say over 80% of us have enough loose skin and lumpy-bumpyness (most of us do not lose it evenly) to warrant plastic surgery. Of that 80%, many are still…

  • I went to my seminar in November 2007. I had to do the six month diet for insurance and then had to wait for a couple months for my doctor to have room on his surgery schedule. My surgery was September 2008.
  • I am almost 48 years old. When I was 42, I had gastric bypass surgery. Second only to adopting my kids, it was my best decision ever. Can't think of a single con. Weight loss surgery gave me my life back. Here are my before/current pics (highest weight was 340, current weight around 140). I am 5'7" tall and generally wear…
  • 47 years old. 5'7" tall. Highest weight 340. Maintaining around 140.
  • The older you get, the harder it is to maintain the same weight. Sad but true.....
  • I think your response to your mom about the food being gross was rude. You came across as preachy and no one want the food police to scrutinize their every bite. I never give unsolicited advice to people in my life who need to lose weight.
  • I'm sure everything is fine with your pouch. Liquids will go straight through. What does your surgeon say about portion sizes?? When you move to solid food, please measure. Your nerves have been cut and it may take a while to feel "full".
  • My RNY was over 5 years ago. I went from 340 and now maintain around 140. The first month I lived on 4 Slim Fast high protein shakes a day. I could have progressed to solid food sooner, but I was overwhelmed so I stuck to the liquid diet. It takes a while to get used to but it does get better. Hang in there!!
  • Here are my driver's license pics. 340 on the left, 140 on the right...
