A large portion of your carb intake is sugar. If your body is getting enough fuel from this, it won't have reason to burn fat. In my experience, cutting sugar is a great contributor to enable fat loss. As another poster suggested, try upping your protein, and also cutting back on sugar. Starting every morning with 3…

That's a dumbed-down version for the masses who prefer not to read up on the subject... Yes, the body needs carbs, but more specific, if needs what carbs easily convert to in the body - glycogen. That's why a low-carb diet is effective - your body uses its stored fat to make the glycogen through dietary ketosis. Duh.

Dietary ketosis does force the body to burn fat cells for energy instead of glucose as the krebs cycle is modified based on the adjusted nutritional intake. My experience with this (and likely many others) is that a keto diet would be especially helpful in weight loss for someone who is already insulin resistant and/or has…

Any diet that recommends REAL food only should not be classed with any eating plan that allows franken-foods...

I usually have a Quest protein bar or 3-4 oz of plain Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup pumpkin flax granola or fresh blueberries mixed in.

Potatoes suck! Check your blood sugar two hours after eating a bunch and see if they are harmless! You don't 'need' that many carbs. We can live on fat and protien w/o carbs.
-
I agree - You don't need eggs and bacon (BTW - if bacon is part of the meal, I use uncured and no-nitrates) for breakfast or breakfast at all - whatever works best for you. My point is that a good dose of protien and healthy fats are a much better way to start the day and level off blood sugar levels than eating a bunch of…

All bad advice here. Sugar is sugar. It may metabolize differently (sucrose vs. fructose) but what you really need at breakfast is protien and good fat (not trans fat or artificially high polyunsaturated fats). You would do much better for weight loss with 2-3 eggs (whole eggs, not just whites) and some bacon or other…

Utter crap and full of sugar. Eat REAL food, not manufactured food-like substances...

Sorry - this is an incorrect statement. Lowering carb intake will cause the energy to come from stored fat - which is stored energy. The only way a low carb diet would take away from muscles is if you run out of body fat! In which case you are at your goal weight and need to start increasing carbs. Carbs are used for…

20% fat is too low. The low-fat hypothysis is now proven wrong, but the USDA dietary guidelines have not adjusted yet. Try about 10% Carbs, 50% Protien, and 40% Fat (no trans-fat or man-made polyunsaturated, like vegatable oils). Red meat is fine, but it really must be grass-fed, totally different nutritional profile. All…

I use a slight variation on this shake that is just delicious and cuts the carbs down to just a few. 1 scoop of Chocolate Whey Protien (no sugar added) 1 cup of Almond Breeze unsweetened plain Almond Milk Bunch of crushed ice 2 table spoons of Thai Kitchen Organic coconut milk I think this mixture is only 192 calories - I…

No bacon??? 3 slices is just 110 calories and loaded with good fat and protien. I've lost 5.4 lbs in two weeks and I eat bacon and eggs every day! Check out my food diary. It's not perfect, but a good example of how you can eat very satisfying meals without all the starchy carbs that spike your blood sugar and cause fat…

A low-carb snack I like is some sliced turkey (1 oz., preferably Boar's Head), wrapped around a slice of Swiss or other flavorful full-fat natural cheese, which a good amount of yellow or spicy mustard. Sometimes I'll wrap all of that around of piece of cucumber. It's pretty tasty and filling.

Just being on the site now and honestly logging all my food and exercise every day! Knowing others can view my food log motivates me to keep on track, and show good progress in the weight loss. Then I can feel more comfortable doling out advice! :)

Does your 'normal' dinner include a starchy carb, such as bread, rice, or pasta? If so, you could be feeling bloated by the fact that your body has been used to very low carbs for a few weeks now and the addition of blood-sugar spiking foods alongside proteins and fats can cause a bloated feeling. How do I know? I've been…

For understanding insulin resistance and how to address it, I recommend two books which I have both read and enjoyed. Both are written in a very conversational style. 1) Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It - Gary Taubes 2) Trick and Treat - Barry Groves, MD

delidot, Studies show that consuming eggs leads to greater weight loss. I would recommend trying to replace your oatmeal (which will spike your blood sugar) with eggs and bacon in the morning. Also, you may want to limit fruit to one per day, as the fructose is still sugar. Yes, some say 'good' sugar, but a banana has 29g…

Fat Head has a great explanation of how the body becomes insulin resistant. This should be required viewing for everyone with blood glucose issues.

One thing that should help with overcoming an addiction to sugar and starchy carbs (bread, rice, pasta - which all turn into blood sugar) is to replace these calories mostly with fat. After much research on this subject, I've finally accepted that fat does not make you fat, but sugar and starch does. And it all goes back…
