  • Ouch!!! Glad you figured it out! Dang... How long did this go on for?
  • Yay!!! I'm excited for you!! Since your race is less than 3 months out, I would say don't make a major change like going to VFF or minimalist shoes if you don't have the time to SLOWLY adjust to them. That would = a very quick injury with how many miles you'll be adding into your training, IMO. A fuel belt is one of the…
  • An incredible victory and feat! Congratulations! Be very proud of yourself & don't stop -- keep going. I'm sure that you can achieve even more. Your best days are still ahead of you. :)
  • If you were 4'5", a size 10 might be fat. If you're 5'10" like me, a size 10 is not fat. It's all relative. Just because the all the stores seem to be out of size 10's (I have that problem, too, and I'm betting we're in different parts of the country) more than likely means that it's just a popular size. If it's something…
  • Awesome job!!! Congrats!!!
  • Agreed that it's not the breathing so much as it is aerobic capacity. So how do you increase aerobic capacity/increase your max VO2 (the amount of oxygen your body can consume)? With very long easy runs and supplement with certain strength training (lower weight & more reps). These things will increase mitochondrial growth…
  • Agreed. This is important, especially for distance running. Think of your mitochondria as your energy converters (you want lots of those) and capillaries as the highways for oxygen to get to your muscles (more pathways means more oxygen your muscles can use). This overall increases your max VO2 (maximum oxygen…
  • First of all, smart move to think about incorporating strength training! It will help with injury prevention, speed, power, balance, and endurance depending on what kind of strength training you do. I'm a distance junkie who does mostly 1/2 marathons but I'm looking to chase after my 2nd full marathon this year and…
  • You are amazing!!! WTG!!! Keep up the great work! :-D
  • Congratulations!!! That's awesome! Pick out a fun race & have a great time! Race days are so much fun! :)
  • Big changes happen with little commitments and over time. When I started 4 years ago, I decided I would only tackle 2 things at a time and if I mastered one thing for 2 months, then I'd keep it as a habit and add on a new goal. My first two goals were to drink 8 cups of water (not soda, not coffee, etc. but water) per day…
  • Ruby red grapefruit.
  • The weirdest was when I went to a Halloween party that a couple I know was throwing, after not having seen them for about 6 months. The husband passed me, then stopped, backtracked and said very seriously, "Whoa. I totally almost didn't recognize you. Where's the rest of you?.... I hope you didn't lose your sense of humor…
  • My small win was having a great 5k run today after being sidelined by a knee injury for 3 weeks. I rested an adequate amount (so hard for me to not push through an injury!) and am back out there without pain! This is especially good news because I have a marathon on Sept. 22nd and was upset about the injury -- I was…
  • I have not had any levels taken in a long time & need to get my blood work & all my counts done. I'm sure it would help clear things up.
  • Yep, I'm on folic acid supplement for that reason. :)
  • LOL! I'll keep that in mind.
  • Thanks! I'll have to check it out! :)
  • "I am too far gone to regain my health, so why even bother?" or "At this age, everyone's metabolism starts showing their true colors. So if I'm getting fatter, then it's because my genetic predisposition for a slow metabolism is showing its ugly face. Nothing I can do about that." (I'm adopted, so I've no clue if I come…
  • Dried blueberries and raw almonds.
  • Congratulations!!! That is a huge achievement!!!
  • Running makes me feel happy and free and is better than therapy. I also have the desire to run faster, enter new races, and challenge myself; races and wanting to feel like a running bad *kitten* help keep me going. That and I want to be able to eat cheesecake and ice cream without so much guilt.
  • Absolutely amazing video -- I couldn't hold back the tears. Yoga is sometimes treated as some sort of hippie joke, but I find it to be absolutely incredible for many reasons. It's gentle but works your muscles hard, it builds stability, it is a mental charge of relaxation, and more. I wish you luck on your fitness journey…

  • Top 5 things I hate right now??? 1.) Stupid people gaining notoriety/"fame" for no reason whatsoever. People with no talent and who are stupid, yet stay in the spotlight, irritate me to no end. I wish Snookie, Lohan, & all those other people would just fall off the face of the planet. 2.) The price of gasoline. 3.) Idiot…
  • 1.) To have all the resources to be able to train towards being an elite runner (time & child care mostly). 2.) To have my businesses flourish/writing published. (Read as: success/financial security) 3.) Pristine health for me & my family. Nothing more than the average cold.

  • I love going to consignment shops, but since I need tall jeans I can't always find what size I need with the length I need. For cheap jeans, I usually go to Wal-Mart or Old Navy. At Wal-Mart I tend to get the Lee jeans -- they are cut much better than they used to be, and they are pretty durable. They also cost only about…
  • Awesome! Welcome to MFP and congrats on taking the first steps on your journey! You'll find a lot of support here and some great advice, tips, and some really funny people. And it's great knowing that the people here are REAL. We've been there too, lying in bed with our own neck fat suffocating us, wondering how we ever…
  • Congratulations on quitting smoking!!! That is a huge victory! If you can do that, then you can definitely achieve your weight loss goals -- my hat's off to you! I quit smoking in March 2011 because I had dreams of doing a half marathon as well as lose weight. I knew I couldn't be a runner & smoke at the same time, and I…
  • It means that you can eat 1810+832 = 2642 calories with your workout and still be right on track to lose 2 pounds per week. If you go too far under your body could resist losing weight because of too much of a calorie deficit and it will think it's starving. If you go over, you won't lose weight as fast or will gain…
