  • Time in the saddle is sadly the answer.
  • Have a read of this - you may just have been unlucky with your weigh-in timings. community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10359984/women-menstrual-cycle-weight-and-fitness-matters#latest I know that my cycle makes a big difference to my weight and if I didn't weigh myself everyday so I could see the fluctuations. It could…
  • Have a look at this thread. It explains the totm weight fluctuations really well. community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10359984/women-menstrual-cycle-weight-and-fitness-matters#latest
  • podcasts are great and audio books can be a huge distraction too. Just don't listen to anything too sad. I had a long run interrupted by tears during one very emotional book. It's pretty hard to run while crying.
  • You burn calories much quicker running than walking though. So what may take a dog walker 1 hour to burn, you'll have done in 30-40minutes. It's more about distance covered. 4km running will burn about the same calories as 4km walking but it will take much less time to run the 4km. If your legs are feeling like lead, it…
  • You are looking great!
  • Just because some guy on TV says it is so, doesn't necessarily make it so. Are there any actual studies on this?
  • I found the the calories the gym machines said I'd burned where massive over estimates compared to my HRM. I had the same issue with lots of the MFP exercise estimates. Could this be part of your problem? Also 1 lb a week is a nice sustainable rate :)
  • Yes, apparently it is if you watch the Biggest Loser. Remembering that that is their full-time job.. However, you've lost that weight once and put it back on again. Perhaps slow and steady might be a better option as you are much more likely to keep it off.
  • I finished the C25K on the 1st April 2009. It's given me a whole new addiction - running! I love it! I run ~30-40km per week now. It's amazing when I look back to the beginning of the year when running 60sec was hard :) smiles - I definitely feel so strange if I miss a run or take a rest day. I make myself do them though…
  • That's great! I did my first 5K in May and it's been addictive. I keep wanting to run my next one faster :)
  • Excellent! Good luck :) A BQ is an impressive goal for your first marathon.
  • Here is a great place to start. Simply log what you are eating. Everything you are eating - no cheating. It then becomes pretty clear what you need to do. Adjust your diet based on what you find and start moving a bit more. You'll succeed :) It needs to be a lifestyle change to stick long term, so in my opinion dieting in…
  • Just go and stand on those scales. You messed up, but tomorrow is another day. Look at why you made the choices you did and try and work out why, then try to avoid making them again :)
  • You are looking great!!! Congratulations - all your hard work is really showing. I agree about the pics. I hid from the camera too, so for the past few years there are very few photos of me.
  • I've just checked out your profile and you look great! I suspect these people are feeling a bit intimidated by how brilliantly you have been doing and are trying to sabotage you. They are not worth even thinking about.
  • Don't be discouraged by the scale staying still for a while. I have weighed myself almost daily for the past 9 months and it's amazing how the body works. Often my weight stays the same for 10days, then suddenly drops without anything changing. Also, you definitely can lose weight without exercise, but exercise is good for…
  • Congratulations! Some great times too :) I started the C25K in Feb at 213lbs (97kg) and I'm now down to 156lbs (71kg) and a huge part of that has been my new found addiction to running. I've done three 5K races so far, improving each time. It feels great to be a runner after never thinking I'd be able to do it. Now I feel…
  • I agree that they are tools. Taking me for example BMI = 29 W2H = 0.73 Body fat% = not sure, but imagine 30% or more Resting Heart Rate = 50bpm So 2 out of 4 good, 2 out of 4 bad. So this tells me something I already know - I need to lose weight, but I'm fairly fit and my fat hangs out in the slightly less risky parts of…
  • Woo hoo! It's wonderful when you start getting comments. It took what seemed like forever for my first comment - I celebrated that day
  • I have to agree with Stef. My Waist to Hip ratio is 0.73, which is good and considered low risk. However, my BMI is 29. I tend to put all my weight on my bum and thighs first, so I keep this excellent ratio despite definitely needing to lose weight. However, I know I must be an unusual body shape as I can never get jeans…
  • I can't recommend this program highly enough  It's brilliant! I tried to start running several times in the past and a lot smaller, but never got past the 2nd run. The C25K made it so achievable and I was always excited to progress. I started this year on Feb 11 th at 215lbs and finished it on Apr 1st at 195lbs.…
  • I weigh myself every day and I don't find it discouraging, more interesting. If you want to weigh every day, do. However, I'd recommend recording your daily weights and you will see how your body fluctuates. I always seem to have sudden drops, then nothing for a while. Not what you expect would be happening, but it's been…
  • Are you removing the BMR calories from your HRM calories? You almost always need to. For example, my BMR is 1572, so that means I burn 1.09 calories every minute by doing nothing. So if in 20 minutes your HRM says 73 calories, you then need to remove the BMR calories for that 20 minutes to get a more accurate number. So 20…
  • It took ages for people to notice with me too. In the end it was people I saw less frequently that finally said something. Some people still haven't said anything and it is pretty obvious now. I think some people don't want to say anything as perhaps they worry that it might be offensive as if you might not have realised…
  • mya - you are doing so great! Impressive progress, I hope you are PROUD! I haven't been on much, too busy focussing on my new obsession...... running! I finished the C25K and have caught the bug well and truly. I have a 5k race in a few weeks too. Motivation! I'm still doing well, no issues over Easter despite the house…
  • Thanks everyone :) I really love the C25K program, so if you are thinking about it - give it a go! It's just made such a difference in my life so far. I want to lose weight so I can run faster now! cmriverside - Cool! You'll be a runner before you know it. I started week 1 and found the 60sec runs pretty hard. That's only…
