  • I joined in February and have lost about 45 pounds. I'm totally addicted. I used to hate classes, but this is SO different!
  • Hi there, My first question would be, how heavy are you lifting? In order to really make a change, you need to really stress out the muscle - so the first suggestion would be to really commit to lifting heavier. Not only will it help with your muscle strength, but those muscles will help you burn more calories on your…
  • Endorphins are a magical thing!
  • Yay you!! No turning back now!
  • Hello, fellow survivor! I had my thyroid out/cancer/Hashimoto's diagnosis in 2007. I was also already overweight, gaining weight sleeping like 14 hours a day, gained 60 pounds in one year, and was undiagnosed/untreated for over five years! It was actually a relief when they found the cancer & Hashimoto's after surgery. I…
  • Hi, I know exactly how you feel. In fact, I've been there so many times, I can't even count them. For years, I wouldn't even let people take my picture, or I'd hide behind other people, or only let someone do a face close up (you know "such a pretty face!"). Take your time to be sad and then get angry. Use those feelings…
  • Sounds like you are working with free weights which is really smart. I'm totally lopsided, too. Perhaps try to train your dominate side for stamina, i.e. high reps, low weight, and then when you do your weaker side, try for strength, i.e. heavier weight/low reps - meaning you can only do a set of at most 5-8. Keep doing…
  • Hater is right - but I think she's hating herself as much (or more than) you. It's sad, really. Obviously she didn't take advantage of the tool her surgery was and now she's full of anger and regret. You as a someone doing something positive are an easy target for her. Just keep on keeping on!
  • There are 2 basic reasons to exercise: create a calorie deficit for weight loss and to improve your fitness level. So long as you are doing "good" work when you do work out, it doesn't really matter when or for what length of time you burn calories/train your body so long as each and every time you do it, you really go for…
  • Check out its website: http://www.culvers.com/menu/nutrition_facts.aspx
  • Hi, I not only had Hashimoto's, I also had thyroid cancer. I'm cured/in remission/whatever you want to call it, and I'm losing!! Make sure you have a good endocrinologist (NOT A GENERAL PRACTITIONER!!!!!) and work on building your muscles - that will help. I've cut way down on my wheat and dairy (sad!) and I think that…
  • That's really nice! Optimism is more than half the battle!
  • If you have an actual disease of the thyroid, you probably cannot get off. If it's just malfunctioning, perhaps yes. For example, I had Hashimoto's thyroiditis and then follicular thyroid cancer. Had a full thyroidectomy, so obviously I'm on them for life. Never, never, never self medicate (or fail to medicate). Alsways…
  • Yep - you're ready! It's tough, but it goes really fast and because it's cardio and weights, it's really efficient! You feel like you've really accomplished something when you're done!
  • Hurrah! That is the BEST feeling!!!
  • I used to HATE those stupid things...maybe try closing your eyes and decide which one feels the most positive and the most YOU right now.
  • Lately...I obsessively read about fitness and eating right :-) Seriously.
  • OK - I would first suggest you change your mindset. None of the "for a female" junk!! 5 pounds is not enough weight to make a difference. Period. All of the BS about getting too bulky or muscley, etc. is just that - BS. Unless you are doing hardcore, body-builder grade workouts with supplements and you somehow manage to…
  • I would also get some vanilla and then add frozen fruit like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries...you get the idea. The dark-colored fruits are very high in the stuff your body needs and it makes it delicious! So, skim milk + yogurt + protein + frozen fruit. Yummy goodness!
  • One thing to be aware of - the MFP calorie estimates were completely wrong - at least for me! It would estimate 800 calories burned for something, but when I got my heart rate monitor, it was more like 500!! If you want to eat back some of your calories, make sure you've actually EARNED THAT MANY!! A heart rate monitor…
  • You need to find your inner bargain hunter. Try sierratradingpost dot com for outdoor wear and regular clothes, and overstock dot com for work and play clothes! Yay you!
  • Hi, Ann Taylor is fabulous. I have a very small waist and a nice booty and she always fits me!
  • Any time you do the same exercise for many days ina row, your body is going to adapt. Basically, if you're not feeling the burn anymore, the muscle in question (the abs) is no longer getting the micro-damage that actually creates stronger muscle. Shorter answer - you need to switch it up.
  • Horse hockey! "Bigger" girls can do anything she sets her mind to! Look, anyone who works on building muscle will benefit from the 30 Day Shred! Muscle burns more calories than fat. It's a very efficient workout that gives you cardio + strength + abs. Don't be scared! You can do anything you set your mind to. Just use that…
  • I would HIGHLY recommend getting a HRM. Before I had mine, MFP was grossly over-estimating how many calories I was burning during exercise (does that mean I'm in better shape than it thinks I should be??). Example - 60 minutes of biking 12-14 MPH on MFP was almost 800, when in actuality is was just over 500! That many…
  • I would highly suggest getting a heart rate monitor. MFP was HUGELY over-estimating how many calories I was burning during exercise.
  • You have to just get them OUT OF YOUR HOUSE! If they aren't there - you can't eat them! When I committed to this, I removed all of the junk food from the house. That way if I want something "bad" I have to actually leave home to get it.
  • Absolutely! You're not logging for vanity and you'll only be lying to yourself if you skip it.
  • Hi, I am a NIGHT person, so I put an alarm of some kind - usually my phone - in another room so I have to get up to shut it off. That way, you can't just hit snooze without thinking about it. I also lay out my workout clothes the night before, including socks and shoes, fill my water bottle, and am basically ready to go.…
