  • @quilteryoyo Well like all well organized events you have your choice, 5k, 10k or HM. I will just do a 5k since my "mature body" has been fighting me. @daria0919 That sounds like a good use of running bling. Might have to do that with my favorites. @shanaber No frozen beards/eyelash's this year. Like most of North America…
  • When you sign up for an event just because they have the COOLEST (pun intended) Bling.
  • That was me in English and Social Studies in school. Just didn't resonate with me. Math, Chemistry, Physics - I could sleep through the classes and get 80's + on the tests. Used to really make the Chem/Physics teacher really mad.
  • I have " modified versions - not copywrited " of the first 2 frames on the back of a shirt I wear at obstacle course races and trail-bush races. The characters are a morphed version of Calvin/Charlie Brown and the 2nd frame is a morphed version of their female protagonist. Thanks for posting these @UncleMac
  • In the pool again last night. Timed 750m ( Sprint Triathlon distance ) 20:21 so getting closer to my PB which was 18:35. Followed by 500m of backstroke - alternate Hard / Easy on the 25m. 1.25km total for the 45 minutes. Could of got a little more but I don't want to be " that person" who is always holding up the staff…
  • A cold water swim today - and that was in the pool This would mirror the temperatures in the local lakes and rivers right now. A lot of people dipped their toes in the water and headed to the steam room. I knocked off a nice 40 length - 1km set of front and back mixed.
  • Our pool has started a monthly challenge and yearly distance challenge board, ie out do your previous years total distance. May was 750m Sprint Triathlon distance: with the idea of slowly improving your 750m time. Best was 18:35, average was around 20:26. June is 400m - one of the distances Life Guards are required to…
  • I suspect you may have the wrong size of fins. I used to have the same issue until I went to SwimCo and tried on what felt like every model/size they had until I found a pair that had no tight spots. I agree - nice to be back in the water. September every year is pool closure for annual maintenance. This year they had a…
  • Is it actually Maalox?? or some other relaxing liquid?? I had a teacher way back in high school - grade 10 - who's coffee smelled more like my Grand Pa's after supper cognac/schnapps.
  • @Scott6255 If you logged in Km's like your Northern Neighbors it's not so daunting ~ 2023 km = 1257.03 miles. o:) B)
  • question for the month... we have some already but what is your favorite mantra/saying/song that keeps you going thru the hard miles or across the finish line? Well not running right now (150km of swimming in 2022) but when I was logging 100-140km per month I thought of Terry Fox - Marathon of Hope - his attempt at running…
  • Merry Christmas to all. @quilteryoyo Yes my hip is much better, can now swim without any discomfort and have a bunch of Hikes up to 6km through the bush trails - through the snow. So a decent work out - just not quite the same as running. Got this great picture through an office window last week just as the sun was…
  • Haven't been running - lots of swimming and walking/hiking to rehabilitate my "mature" left hip. Unfortunately the Pool is closed right now due to the bad weather and will be closed in January as they rebuild some of the internal concrete structures that have reached their End of Life cycle. Right now we are in the middle…
  • It's been hit and miss at our pool. They are due for a Major Maintenance cycle and it's starting to show. It was closed for 3 days due to a problem in the Chemical - Utility room. Little things that become big things and people don't think about. Roof Drains that need to have the Debris screens on the roof replaced. The…
  • 1000m to 1500m on average 3-5 times a week. The old injury from my Sprained Hip has finally quit hurting when I try to do a Breast Stroke so nice to have 3 differant strokes to change up the muscle loading and allows for longer swims - time and distance wise.
  • @girlwithcurls2 Yes still swimming. @purrmonster Nothing wrong with that pace. I can remember when I could only get 5-600m in an hour. Still swimming just not posting very much. 4-6 swims a week depending on pool schedule and work. Minimum 1000m, usually more. The local Triathlon is not happening this year due to the…
  • Ironic seeing this again after many years. My brother was a BIG Calvin and Hobbes fan, he prearranged his funeral and the last 3 boards were the front of his memorial card at his service plus a picture of him in a canoe on a river that was not kayak friendly. Probably a copyright infringement but it's not like he can be…
  • 2022 Bump for the Newbies
  • Darn phantom double post.
  • @shanaber Well I had all of about 300km last year - to many niggle injuries due to the loss of my Foundation Exercise - Swimming - due to the Covid pool limits and schedule conflicts. Didn't realize that Swimming was the Foundation of my Fitness until I lost the pool. Sure I will join up - maybe the motivation that I need…
  • It's that time of year. Dreadmill Time.
  • @tamlyn1980 Welcome to the Group. You have some NZ sisters ( running sisters that is ) in the group. Our NZ friends @Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary
  • @kayak4water There was a guy in one of the running threads who had his Hip replaced and after recovery was able to start running again. Can't remember if he had both replaced or just the one.He preferred the trails over pavement/concrete as even if they were in rocky ground the overall ground effect was a softer surface…
  • @Orphia I howled at this = unless it's 4 & 1 or 9 & 1 I am hopeless at running math. Even worse when your doing a straight distance run putting trail segments together. @katharmonic As someone who is a volunteer committee member/timing coordinator on 2 differant events and like you mentioned over 50% of the participants…
  • @mshawski As others have already said there is no such thing as TMI in this group. As to the Devil that is "hills' - You probably noticed that in the pictures I had attached it was all rolling hills along the River Valley. In fact my house is in the bottom of the valley ( my community is a smudge in the bottom of the 3rd…
  • Another welcome to the new running addicts. I saw this MFP blog about new runners and thought it might be of interest to you. https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/mental-mistakes-new-runners-make/ @shanaber Here is a picture or two of the "Walk" (my garmin does not have a Hike option) I did with 3 friends from the local club…
