WOOHOO! First 10 miler of the year. Totally unplanned but the weather was about perfect. I think I might do total of 3 to 4 of these a year so I always get pumped when one drops in.
My HR yesterday was so strange in the morning just too high for the effort I was exerting but @quilteryoyo reminded me that poor sleep a couple days in a row makes for a tired body so I did manage to get better sleep last night. Honestly I think I am too old and jaded to let work stress get to me so why? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Today my HR was exactly normal on my run so no worries.
38.33 out of 130 running. Total 45.11 both walking and running.
AND OUR RTY team got our 200 mile badge. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Excellent run @Scott6255 ! Congrats on the PR for a HM! That's awesome.
@SummerSkier Great running. I love how you accidently go for these long runs. At this rate our RTY team will reach 6 x 2024 !
Glad you were able to get a run in @daria0919 . That weather was not the best though.5 -
@SummerSkier great run!! 😀
@Scott6255 amazing HM run! Great you had a PR!
Nice run @emptydog!
@quilteryoyo sorry to hear about your rough night. Hopefully tonight will be better. (Hug)
And still, you managed a 2 mile walk - well done 😀
Nice run @martaindale! What race will you be running and when?
@juliet3455 cool medal! One Christmas my husband and I decorated our tree with lights and then hung all our running medals on it instead of ornaments. It looked really great! I’ll see if I can find a photo of it.
@shanaber - hope you feel all the love and support we’re sending your way…. Hopefully the 12th treatment will help. Stay strong. (HUG)5 -
@daria0919 - I hope your granddaughter has a mild case. Strep can be so bad. Even when I was perfectly healthy I had to be careful not to get it because I had rheumatic fever as a kid after too many bouts with strep throat. I hope you and your husband can avoid getting it too!
I love that you put all your race medals on the tree instead of ornaments! What a fun, cool idea!
@elizury - love this videos. I wonder how long it took them to get them perfected. I would fear I would go flying off the end to the treadmill and I am sure they probably fell a few times!
@juliet3455 - good to see you back here checking in with us! Love that medal! I would sign up for it too! Have you had any good frozen beards this year?
@emptydog - I am pretty sure you posted this before but where are you located? (Sure wish MFP would bring back the ability to search a discussion!)
@Scott6255 - great getting a HM run in and a PR!
@SummerSkier - awesome job getting in a 10 miler while you have the nice weather!
@quilteryoyo - I hope you are feeling better tomorrow for a run. Maybe that you were getting sick is why you were having trouble sleeping or is it just stress? Either way I hop it is better.
Thanks everyone - you all are the best! I took Hobbes out for a good walk in the cool sunshine and it got my head into a better place. I can't really do anything about the radiation therapy until we meet with the RIGHT oncologist. Then I will have more information on what they have planned and the details of what it will include and for how long. Our plans won't change but just may be pushed off a few weeks or a couple of months.8 -
I'm trying to find a groove and consistency. I am taking time off of work, a two week break, and I'm looking forward to having some nice runs in there.
January Running Goal: 13 runs, 50 miles- Jan 3 - 1.2 miles
- Jan 6 - 1.06 miles

I will just do a 5k since my "mature body" has been fighting me.One Christmas my husband and I decorated our tree with lights and then hung all our running medals on it instead of ornaments. and lacking snow. Our local ski hill probably won't even open this year. In fact we are still going out on our rough bush trails just because we can. Glad to see that you are still getting out with Hobbes for some quality time - exercise.7 -

OK now I believe you are training for when you come to Tx and run with me.. That's very cool about the 9 yo. Of course in a few years he will be pacing you like his older brother.4 -
Hello! Happy New Year! My goal for the year is to complete atleast 1 5K run. I used to run a lot. In June of 2020, I broke my ankle without even realizing it. I just thought the pain I was experiencing was from daily running. Since then physically have healed but mentally I am afraid. I do walk, so i will start with daily walking with goal to run.7

@SummerSkier ha! Your 2024 stats are soo impressive! Both distance and pace! It'll be me asking you to slow down lol.
You'd be all:
"Back in the military, we had names for slackers like you! Mooove it! FASTER!!"
Lol, ok. Imagination getting better of me there.
Speaking of slacking....
When he was around 12-13, I remember running with my eldest "come on", "stop slacking", "only another...", "don't do dare stop" etc.
Didn't run with him for maybe all of 2022... got towards the end of 2023. And suddenly I was all "old man", "big guy" etc "that's all you got?" Etc.
Got how Darth Vader felt when Luke handed his *kitten* back to him in the rematch in Return of the Jedi lol6 -
another 7 to the mix. I probably should not have done it but tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. Hopefully my legs won't buckle while I am playing tennis this afternoon.
@tarun_yadavA you crack me up! 🤣🤣🤣

Pretty much on track with regards to distance. For the first time I did speed intervals of 1min each with 1min rest between. Went surprisingly well. Lovely weather if a bit too windy.5 -

Points to ponder:The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.
You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read it straight through, and you'll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies.
Awards tarnish ...
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money ... or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.11 -
Had a fantastic run yesterday in the snow. It was beautiful. My hounddog, Alfie, loved it too. Went 4 miles. Good first week,22 miles. Goal is to run or walk 3 a day for a year. @quilteryoyo I am not near that area. Closer to the Wisconsin border. Question for anyone running/walking in the snow and ice- what shoes do you recommend??4

If @PastorVincent were with us, he would probably tell you to make your own screw shoes (you can google that)

Thanks @daria0919 . Sorry you had to cut your run short due to feeling weak. I hope you are okay and not getting sick.
Thanks @shanaber . I think part of not sleeping well was that I was getting sick and I think not feeling well has made my sleeping stress high and making me restless. I am feeling better today, so hoping that I will sleep better tonight. You are doing great and I hope that once you get the last chemo done you will start to feel better.
@chris_in_cal Enjoy your two weeks off work and hopefully you can get in some good runs.
@juliet3455 I hope you enjoy the 5K. When is the race? If you said that already, I have forgotten. That's my old body/brain.
@tarun_yadavA Nice run and glad to see that your son joined you for a couple of miles. I hope he gets into track and enjoys it. Look what a good influence you are to your sons! Hahaha about your running with @SummerSkier and what happened when your older son got, well, older and faster.
Welcome @iryne29 I'm glad you ankle has healed. I understand the fear. I broke my elbow and it was years after it healed before I got the courage to try tennis again. Start slow and just listen to your body. I think you will be fine.
@SummerSkier Great run and very ambitious when tennis was scheduled later in the day. Looks like you did great with the tennis too.
Great run @yirara . Speed intervals are hard, but fun.
Great running @AlphaHowls . Love the funny and the points to ponder.
Great run @elizury . Love that you run with Alfie.
Nice job on the crazy laps @emptydog.
