"Making a Murderer" on Netflix
(I went back seven pages and didn't see any similarly themed threads...hope this isn't a duplicate) Anybody else watching this? Being a multipart documentary, I don't know how "anti-spoilerish" we need to be, as you can get a synopsis of what actually happened in 30 seconds with a web browser pointed at The Google, so...…

interesting article about medical study surrounding calorie burn
Article is here, on CNN.com reinforces a lot of what folks like @ninerbuff have said in remarks on other threads - the gist of the article is that, essentially, if you're working out strictly as a means of burning calories, that your body may be enforcing "plateaus" past a certain point, and that exercise alone won't carry…

old habits? maybe not so hard to break after all...
prior to making the commitment to this program, pasta was my single biggest vice. if pasta were a controlled substance, i'd be the dude trading sexual favors for fettucine behind the convenience store. but i hadn't touched a pasta product since prior to memorial day...until today. i figured i should commemorate my "halfway…

"starvation mode" - myth or basis in fact?
I just clicked on another thread that I thought might be a discussion of this phenomena, but it turned down another road entirely, so I figured I'd better ask a pointed question: how many of you have participated in discussions regarding "starvation mode", where there's allegedly instructions written into your DNA that…

today's the first day at the gym...advice?
i totally understand that I could research this and get some generic advice from static pages that already exist, but i feel like most of you have walked this path already, and would be in a better place to give me some specific pointers, here. I'm 50...5'9". I started at 279 at the end of May, and seem to have plateau'ed…

adjust carb intake for cardio exercise?
soooo...i've been at this since the end of May, and have had some pretty decent results in that time - 36 pounds down, as a result of deeply cutting carbs and sugar, making sure i get in 10K steps a day and - as of a few weeks ago - adding regular bike rides of anywhere from 5-10 miles a ride. that put me at around 245…
