Major Study Supports Carbohydrate-Insulin Model of Obesity - by Ludwig
@AlabasterVerve posted this on the main boards (has a GREAT thread on LCHF studies going) but I thought I'd share it here in case you didn't see it.. It's a neat study by Ludwig that uses doubly labelled water to test TEE on three maintenance diets of varying carb and fat levels, but the same protein levels. It looks like…

Deep fryer suggestions?
I'm putting a deep fryer on my wish list for Xmas. My kids love deep fried foods so I agreed to one, as long as I can use more stable fats like tallow in it. No liquid vegetable oils (heated, they appear to be less healthy). Does anyone have any deep fryer recommendations? I doubt I need a huge one; I'm not planning on…

ADA has added LCHF to its llist of recommended diets for T2Ds
ADA has recently added LCHF to its list of diets that T2Ds should consider (along with Mediterranean, DASH and vegetarian (which I've never quite understood why that one is in there knowing vegetarian diets are often higher in carbs). http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/early/2018/09/27/dci18-0033.full-text.pdf I'm…

Peter Attia's podcast with Dom D'Agostino
Peter Attia has started creating podcasts called The Drive. It's longevity based but he has a strong interest in ketosis and LCHF diets. This podcast interview with Dom D'Agostino is really technical. Understatement! I need to listen to it again... But so much in it. Wow. Worth a listen when you have a few spare hours.…

How does meat (supposedly) cause T2D?
I'm reading the Longevity Diet by Valter Longo. He's fairly well known in the area of longevity but his book (and my biases) keep making me mad. The premise of his book us that calorie restriction by 30%, or even something like Michael Mosley's 5:2 fast diet, will lengthen life. At least in animal studies, or…

Food for Thought: The Science and Politics of Nutrition
Georgia Ede, of the blog Diagnosis: Diet, provided a link to Food for Thought: The Science and Politics of Nutrition, which was a recent 2-day nutrition conference in Switzerland. The talks don't appear to be specifically low carb but seem to debate what diets are working for people and how we got to this point. Low carb…

Dr. Jake Kushner - 'Medical nutrition therapy for people with type 1 diabetes: fact vs. fiction'
This video is titled to be about T1D but it is really relevant to T2D's too. He gets into the steadier BG and reduced insulin needs when following low carb diets, and how it reduces complications associated with high insulin and BG. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No2S65lxoSk&index=3&list=PLrVWtWmYRR2Cr0_P9Ba3V27wLhCq8GCcj

Is high blood glucose or high insulin the problem?
On Jason Fung's IDM blog the other week he discussed whether high BG or high insulin is the problem causer. It could be the excessive insulin is the larger problem, which makes treating T2D with insulin, sulphonylureas or thiazolidinediones potentially problematic. Metformin seems to be beneficial as it reduces how much…

Berger on GNG and BG rise after protein consumption = meat does not make sugar
@AlabasterVerve posted this link to Amy Berger's blog, Tuit Nutrition , on gluconeogenesis, blood glucose rises, and glucagon after eating protein. It is VERY well written. It explains how protein does NOT turn into sugar, and why adequate protein intake is helpful during low carb or ketogenic weight loss. It is a long…
