Fat passengers should pay more, says ex Qantas finance chief
This popped up as an item on one of my trade eZines: What I'd like to know is are they proposing a system where the price of the ticket is based on the weight of the passenger, so if you are petite and very light you pay half the fare than a 6'+ Aussie bloke? Or that child places will be radically reduced on long-haul?

Calories burnt swimming
Hello folks! I'm a swimmer and I love swimming but I feel the calories that MFP suggests I've burnt is way OTT to reality. Does anyone know of a good calculator for estimating calories burnt during swimming? BTW I'm 5'4", 211lbs (1.63m 96kg) and I swim lengths, breaststroke, moderate/slow pace and do about 100 18m…

Tell loved ones they are overweight this Christmas
I found this on the BBC News website - 'Tell loved ones they are overweight this Christmas' http://bbc.in/u8CisK While I think at this time of year it's a bit pompous to pontificate, but it's certainly something that we might consider in the new year. One of my best friends took me to task this summer and that triggered my…

NSV - dinner was served without carbs
The much beloved served up last night's dinner ( a delicious honey & mustard chicken dish) on a bed of runner beans. Not a potato or a grain of rice in sight. Although he's not yet started his sexy by 60 plan yet (... oh he'll always be sexy in my eyes no matter what  ) he said that he wanted to…

Need suggestions for some (light) home exercise
Hello all  In a previous life I used to go to the gym 4-5 mornings a week and spend 20-30mins on the X-trainer. Also did a few reps on the machines - mostly arms and upper body. I've never been able to do sit-ups, crunches or all that jazz. Fast forward six years and going to the gym is now a viable option in my…

Chocolate may protect the brain and heart
Good news for Chocoholics like me  I saw this new item in the Heath section of the BBC News website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-14679497 Of course as with all "health" stories it comes with the usual caviats and I think it's not an excuse for us all to ditch the positive and nutritional lifestiles to which we…

Are Scales the work of the devil
  Ok, I know our weight fluctuates - that's why it's good to have a weekly weigh-in at a set time/day so we can accurately track progress, but I've had a successful week food and excercise wise and with the weekend coming up and my weigh-in day on Sunday I thought I'd have a sneaky mid-week weigh-in this…

8 Week challenge to drop a few lbs
My friends are getting married Oct 1st, so I've decided to give up chocolate for 8 weeks. This has now become a challenge to loose some weight and feel more comfy in my kilt (which is a wee bit on the snug side). It's a short-term goal on the road to losing 23kg over the next year. Are there middle-aged UK blobbies with…
